Elementalist under water
I’m pretty sure Tornado works under water. I used it in sPvP.
It only works in sPvP. ele’s currently have no elite in pve underwater
Agree with most others here, ele’s in water are pretty messed up with no elite, most of our slot skills disabled and in many cases what is considered support elements out dpsing the dps ones (aka water out dps’s fire for single target)
I try to avoid water combat where ever possible and when forced to just face-roll though the elements and pray
Yeah, underwater combat is lackluster, damage you do is atrociously low, skills miss way too often (air n1, 3 missiles…I have to constantly move up/down left/right to find a sweet spot to even get all 3 hits on point blank enemy).
Skill n1 in fire: detonation delay is way too long, area of detonation might as well not be there, it’s so low it’s useless in PvE unless you bring a tank and even then it’s meh.
Skill n1 in earth: useless unless you magically line up the mobs so you can hit multiple of them.
Kiting forever, not fun.

I got to the all underwater mission in your personal quest just yesterday. It was when I said screw this and quit playing my personal quest.
Not that I couldn’t do it, I’m quite confident that I could if I wanted to, but the point is that to me elementalist underwater is just so f***ing bad to the point where I feel like quitting the game the moment I submerge.
so far i just ignore underwater fight, i dont feel like wasting 5-6 min to kill 2 adds underwater, sometime i just prefer to pull them out of the water and waste them whit my fire element (is the only useful element)
We are working on getting Whirlpool working in PvE so that Elementalists have an underwater Elite skill. I’m not sure what the problem is but am looking into it.
Thanks,
Jon
While you are at it, Please check the underwater combat numbers in general as it appears to be very broken for the elementalist while leveling. I’ve played the underwater combat on 3 other professions and each appear to be able to deal significant damage to mobs to kill them. The elementalist on the other hand takes an exceedingly long time and in many cases little to no damage is applied to target at all regardless of attunement
I second the glitches in hitting things with Air 1. It’s very easy to get into a position where all three bolts miss even an immobile target.
I have the most trouble with the poison urchins or rotmouths (and some of them protect skill points), as almost all positions will lead to Air 1 missing, and many positions will lead to Water 1 missing as well. Not to mention troubles with other skills not hitting.
There are simply too many underwater hearts, skill challenges, and vistas you have to fight to reach to ignore the underwater fighting issues.
In the betas, the only profession underwater I enjoyed less was Mesmer at lower levels, and that actually improved as I reached higher levels and got decent traits and equipment. Elementalists aren’t affected anywhere near as much by traits and equipment underwater.
I KNOW underwater combat for the elementalist is sub-par. I have a 74 ele and a 42 warrior. Neither are specced for huge power, and the warrior is just more effective at killing mobs underwater. More damage, period.
All the crowd control and fancy shenanigans amount to a hill of beans when it takes three to four time longer to down one mob on my ele. I avoid underwater combat on my ele while solo. With one other it’s at least tolerable.
Now that I think about it, the warrior does more dps at 42 against even level mobs than my ele does at 74. How is this not a problem?
I don’t understand why the whirlpool doesn’t work for you guys.
As an engineer, I use it underwater all the time…
I think its simply incompetence from Anets part. I can’t see a logical explanation.

i do like everything else, anet hate eles and adore warriors
A dps calculator would make it a lot easier to test, but I’m fairly certain the damage output must be bugged. Anyone willing to go beat on training dummies in the mists and do the math on their combat log?
