I saw a post a while ago that go me thinking just how similar are the elementalist and the engineer? Anet has always given off the impression that engineer was suppose to be like our fun house mirror image. We are being of the elements and knowledge. They the masters of metal and knowledge. For every skill and trick we have the engineer have their own solution to the same problem. So are we really just lost brothers and sisters or are they just attempting to capture the glory that is an Elementalist?

Note: this isn’t a battle of what does more damage or whose better in PvP. This is a thread to compare the mechanics and nature of the 2 classes and how they are different/similar.

They are similar in how fluid they are when playing. They outshine us in many areas but we are stronger against condi removal and have better access to defensive boons. Both classes also lack a weapon swap mechanic. Engineer is a bit harder to play but far more rewarding

Hmm…interesting topic. I’d say that (lorewise), they share a kind of curiosity of how the world works. Except that they both have a completely different approach to it. Both professions are in the ‘have an answer for anything’ business. However, where the elementalist is dignified, refined and safe, the engineer is more crude and volatile.

You could say that they’re two different solutions for the same problem.

If you can read this then it is proof that ArenaNet’s moderators just, kind and fair.

Engineer is simply an Elementalist with infinite conjure weapon abilities (or attunements with no cooldowns).
So basically both classes are designed to be very versatile, but Engineer feels approximately 10x more smoother and easier to play in every aspect of the game.

Engi seems more condition based than Ele to me. I never was attracted to engi playstyle because I have a necro and you can’t get better conditions than that and I have a thief I can run P/D condi. I know neither is a Engi but I would only go Engi if I wanted to go condition heavy again but I made a necro instead.

I have limited knowledge on Engi though the mobile ones always seem to be pistol shield Engis. Power Engineer’s don’t often seem mobile to me and appear to be extremely all in for power builds with a much harder time to escape. Then there is the troll engi condi bunker build I seen that doesn’t really kill anything is mobile but doesn’t die either.

Infinite attunement I agree on. Smoother, easier play style I’m not so sure about.
