Q:
Lingering Elements
Okay, I suppose I should/could just test it, but I’m at work and no steady weapons makes it annoying (not too bad, though) to test it out.
On the other hand, if it did work with those traits, you could attain ridiculous bonus damage amounts (not with 100% uptime). 20% from Air, 20% from Water (Piercing Shards instead of Vital Striking), 10% from Earth, 10% from Scholar. Could also add in 10% from Fire if you don’t take Fresh Air (which would kind of defeat the purpose, but you would get a whopping 1 second of 70% bonus damage).
imagine this:
max crit damage is as far as I know somewhere around 213%, + 15% from arcane air trait, +10% while above 90% hp x2 (runes and trait), 5% from sigil, 20% on targets below 33% hp, 10% when within 600 range, +20% dmg while in water on vulnerable foes.
Since each percentage boost will up other boosts it’ll do even more damage than just addig it all up so you’ll do over 300% damage if you got all of that equiped. + there’s still the vulnerability stacks on the opponent to take into account.
For fun I did all that with frostbow on a stunned target (another+20%) and then cast 2 and 4 while in water atunement. With that one skill you can bring down all that is in its path. Sadly its a giant telegraphed aoe so I can only see this being effective in pve; tried it in pvp, works fine the first couple times but later… not really

my only gripe with this, it should be the arcane 1pnt trait
actually, it should be merged with the arcane 1pnt trait
here’s some eye candy, just to let the idea sink in

With how little it does for us... yes.
And then we can get a personal versoin of Elemental Attunement as our 3pt Arcana, with the Master trait sharing those boons with allies.

Thanks for pointing this out, I forgot that it’s multiplicative and not additive!
Personally I would love it if instead it gave a stat boost for each attunement.
Similar to what the trait lines give but on a smaller scale. Say +30 or so to effected stats.

Arcane Fury or Lingering Attunements? I feel that Arcane Fury doesn’t last nearly long enough for much usage, it might go off one one or two attacks, but that’s it. Then again, especially paired with Fresh Air, if it was higher, you could stack near indefinite Fury by swapping attunements constantly. That would kind of kill traiting into Fire for the blast unless you wanted to give party Fury, which is sometimes lacking, even with lots of Warriors running around.
I just want to point out that a dev confirmed that Lingering Elements is working as intended and it would be too powerful if it worked with all “while in X attunement” traits (especially the +x% dmg ones)
Just think of it: an ele could blow all defensive/utility attunements for a powerful burst! A risk/reward mechanic! How ridiculous!
Until that, I’ll play GW2.

And I would point out that this dev did several huge calculation mistakes when making this point. It was really fun and sad to read.
They also admitted that the air and fire adept minor traits required some work. Still waiting.

Could I get a link to that post?
I thought it would be common knowledge after 9 months, but:
Lingering Elements
All passive bonuses for that attunement should linger. This means Flame Barrier, Stone Flesh, Soothing Mist, and Zephyr’s Speed.
These are not all passive bonuses.
But thank you for taking the time to reply.
Edit: and thank you for making a trait that could be the highlight of the class be so pathetic.
Give me a list of what else you think might be considered a passive benefit of these attunements, and I am happy to discuss the merits of this stuff working with this trait. However, posts that say things like “this isn’t everything” are just not constructive.
And a bit later in the same thread, on the same page:
I think this trait needs better wording. I hope you all understand why that trait would be wildly overpowered if it carried over everything particularly all 10% damage bonuses. You could simply slam through all attunements and then get 50% bonus damage. Similarly making other things work with this would requires those traits get lowered in the base case as well. I think this is a fine 15 point minor trait on its own and we can reword it and then discuss the merits of the other traits on their own.
To me, that is a better starting point for discussion than attempting to balance all of these effects with how they might work with a minor trait in Arcana. That would predicate the entire profession around that trait which is not what we want out of our minor traits.

If you follow that thread, you’ll see Zelyhn’s post pointing out how short the damage boni would be and Jon Peters’ silence on that matter. He just admitted that 2 minor traits need work:
I do agree that the 5 point minors need looking at. I think the Earth and Water ones are in an ok place right now but Fire and Air need work.

Edit: whew, I finally managed to break up the nested quote correctly.
Until that, I’ll play GW2.
