We all know this is a long way away but posting just for the funz. What kind of concepts would you like explored? What role would they fit in? What would be their theme and lore? Most importantly, what would they bring to elementalists that we don’t already have?

Been revolving some ideas on swords and mantras for ele, for example, but I don’t have anything ready to present. Just wondering if anyone else has been thinking about these things.

I know people mostly want old issues to be fixed, and I agree, but please refrain from from doing that in this thread. This is not the place for it.

I’d like to see a fire type Mage mostly as fire has traditionally been a damage type class. With that I would like to see a sword as the weapon, and I do like the idea of mantras like you said. 2 damage mantras and like armor of earth or lightning flash with signet for heal would be nice. With the sword I’d also like the attacks to be pretty fast as well so that we can actually become a dps class…. That and out signet would be used again

I want something stealthy and playful, as opposed to the elementalist’s usual grandoise and overbearing presence, which was only further accentuated by Tempest

Elite specialization: Aether/Light

-5th attunement. Aether / Light to keep in theme with Aristotle’s On The Heavens. Spells make allies invisible and reveal foes. Spells are fast casting and have high burst / burn to be sPvP viable.
-Utility skills: Prisms, which are conjured on the battlefield and act as high health, low damage minions. They have different effects when you cast light spells on them

I’d like to explore more of an arcanist type of mage. Basically an ele that forgoes the use of elements for access to a set of arcane skills. Perhaps make it work similar to celestial avatar and have them go into an arcane mode

@Jekkt Love the basic idea. I’m pretty sure it needs further balancing, though. Not sure if AA-chain is a good idea. Elementalist as a class tends to revolve around swapping elements, so often u don’t even get to utilize that chain.

But this is semantics, and is highly dependent on how the class rotates. If your class rotates through elements for max dmg, AA-chain doesn’t really work. If it doesn’t then AA-chain has a place.

@Alex Shatter That sounds a lot like a mesmer. But I’m not against eles having some mesmer vibes.

eles usually get passive defense from their traits, in my concept the defense is active and on the auto attacks. instead of picking defensive traitlines you can spec into damage. the autos are not meant to deal significant damage. the way you deal damage is by a rapid succession of skills, combining effects to reset your cooldowns.

@Jekkt It seems I failed to impress my point. What I meant was instead of having a 3-part AA-chain, why not simply have 1-part AA? Speaking of AA, evades and reflects feel too strong for AA, and these seem like they are a bit hard to control for max efficiency. You could incorporate them into the other skills, or trait them.

Water #3 needs either a longer cd or less stun, I’d prefer less stun. 2 sec stun on 25s cooldown seems too strong. 1s stun and reduce casting time to 1/4s? Would make it easier to use as an interrupt as well.
Air #2 needs some more love. Give it a daze maybe, and increase cd to 25s? This would also bring it more into line with RtL, and give you a possible healing window during the disengage. Btw, I love the synergy between Air Sw and D.
Maelstrom could be stronger, maybe increase the stance duration to 10 secs?
Weaver’s Frenzy(GM Minor) seems underwhelming. Currently, you could only gain
max stacks while using the elite skill. Maybe not even then. Even a 15% attack speed boost is not that big a deal, since it only affects your AA.
Shared Stances (GM Major) seems too strong. You could effectively reduce the cd of the healing skill to 20s just by using your stances. Needs a triggering condition, such as getting hit while in a stance, a hit removing 1s from cd. Even this with an icd(1s). That way, if u are focused, you could reduce the cd to 20s, but you couldn’t super-recharge it while off-combat.

yeah you’re probably right that some things need to be buffed/changed. back when i created this, tempest was freshly revealed and we had yet to encounter the power creep of the elite specs, so by today’s standards this concept would most likely not be strong enough.
as for the 3 chain autos, they can actually work, they’re inspired by the ranger’s greatsword auto chain that evades on the last hit. the evades and reflects are only 1/4s but the more efficient you can be with them, the more they help, a little skill skill floor and it would be nice to finally have auto chains on ele. as for the stances, i would most likely just change the trait and lower the cooldown for all of them.
and weaver’s frenzy to quickness (2s) on attunement swap which would synergyze well with the autos.

My first thought was Arcanist:
-F5 Arcane Attunement
-Same skills in Arcane attunement regardless of weapon (like a Conjure)
-Sword or Mace mainhand would be nice
-Unsure Utilities. Maybe Mantras or Meditations if more Arcanes are a bad idea
-Perhaps gain charges through attunement swapping before you can activate Arcane attunement.
-Traits focused on crit damage, crit procs and attunement swaps (Arcane skills always crit.)

Ideas:
-30% chance to grant Fury for 5s when you don’t crit (10s icd)
-Apply protection on Critical hits. (3s duration, 5-10s icd)
-Being critically hit applies Arcane Power (45s icd, same as utility)
-Swapping attunements grants Ferocity (+50) Stacks up to 5 times, lasts 10 seconds.
-Critical hits apply Arcane Wave (30s icd, same as utility)
-Swapping attunements removes a condition (9s icd like sigil)

Second was Dancer:
-Cooldown for attunements removed (!!)
-Replaced with endurance cost (10ish endurance per swap)
-Mainhand weapon preferred, Sword or Pistol, but Torch makes sense too.
-Glamour utilities (Flashy moves, finishers)
-May need to give attunement swap traits an icd for Dancer (Rock Solid would be very strong, as would Elemental Attunement. One with Fire might be usable over Pyromancer.)
-Focused on movement, fields and combos.

Ideas:
Utilities
-Cinder Switch. Swap places with the target foe and burn them. Create a fire field beneath foe. (Short-mid range skill, 400-600ish, swap fails vs Stability but will still create fire field.)
-Magnetic Retreat. Dodge backward creating a magnetic wall that reflects/destroys projectiles and bleeds enemies that cross it. (Likely not a field, could be Dark/Ethereal/Light?)
-Frost Step. Leap toward opponent, damaging and freezing them for 1-2s (Frost bow freeze). Leap finisher.
-Soothing Twirl (Heal). Create a water field and whirl for 3 seconds. Can move while whirling. Heals you by X and allies within range of whirl by Y (plus Regen bolts).

Traits
-‘Borrow’ Thief’s Endless Stamina trait? (Vigor effect increased by 50%)
-Trait that gives Endurance or Vigor on finishers?
-Movement increasing/impairing traits?
-Duration of inflicted Chill, Cripple and Immobilize increased by 50%
-Gain Swiftness (5s) when you chill or cripple an opponent, Superspeed (2s) when you immobilize. 10s icd
-Whirl finishers restore endurance / produce more bolts / apply a condition / activate faster / or something

Arcanist is pretty basic. Dancer feels like it would need a -lot- of fine tuning.

I think there’s still alot of potential for Elementalist overloads, in a more offensive role, something like…

Force Majeure: high damage medium range caster using a sword mainhand (for gestures and the like) We’d give up normal attunement switching in exchange for a more powerful set of damaging attacks. No real preference for these except that 1 HAS to be a slash that causes damage at a distance, similar to Necro’s axe.

Attunements are still visible and can be activated for overload. In addition, each attunement gives a stance-style buff.

Fire: Burning on hit +power +speed
Water: Healing aura +hpower +toughness
Air: Stun every X attacks, inflict weakness every X attacks +mspeed
Earth: Vuln and might when attacked +Toughness +Vitality

These attunements can still be overloaded, but have a more offensive focus

Meteor: Damage in a large area, lingering fire field
Ice Spear: Single target damage, chill, max vuln on target
Messenger: +mspeed and power to allies, vuln and stun in a large area
Entomb: Stun with damage over time

Aside from thematical issues, there needs to be a lot of toning down as well. The avatars can’t be permanent, they need an activation much like overloads do. GW2 also doesn’t have damage types, so u can’t have damage type-flavored skills. The avatars only need the stat-boost component, anything else is pretty much OP.

I’ll dog into this more later, I gotta leave for now.

I agree with you its just that with elementalist water is associated with healing and Lyssa is the god of water so my hands were kind of tied there. Those aren’t damage flavored skills they just send out specific bolts associated with each respective god. I see what you are saying about the permanency of the avatar so maybe it should be the reverse of overloads to incentivize siting in each element(they apply the first 5 seconds after attuning to each avatar then go away). Thanks for the input!

Enchanter:
new weapon: Mainhand sword
new ability types: “conjures” (from gw1)

each conjure could have a “ammo” mechanic, or a duration mechanic. or even a revenant mechanic with energy. You enhance your attacks with fire,water,air,earth,arcanic magic each granting you boons and conditions to your opponent for each strike (or with a %chance)

The boon duration and condition duration (as well as the %chanse to apply both) is doubled if used the appropriate attunement.

Examples:

Utility 1, Enchant fire: For the next 20 seconds your attacks have a 50% chance to apply burning for 3 seconds and 30% to apply might on hit. Doubles duration and chance if attuned in fire.

Enchant ice could apply bleeding and grant regeneration
Enchant lightning could apply multiple (but short) vulnerabilty and vigor (2 stacks of vuln that last for 4-5 seconds)
Enchant earth can apply short weakness and protection.

the vuln and weakness, as well as protection and vigor should be short, and medium when attuned correctly because they are powerful boons/conditions, and considering you have a main hand sword as well as daggers with fast attacks it shouldnt be a problem maintaining them.

Another mechanic could be adding additional effects apon enchanting depending on your current attunement.

Example 1: Enchant fire: If activated while in fire attunement activte a flame burst,dmging foes around you. If activated while in water activate steam,blinding foes around you. Air releases a lightning strike, earth creates a short lava font on your locaton with smaller range

same goes with enchant ice,air,earth in fire attunement

They need something special in the new expansion.
Last time they had a new Class + Specializations.
This time they need something else apart from Specializations… so I wouldn’t
be surprised to see new weapons for every class that don’t exist as of now.

For my ele I would like a dual whip or a 2h greataxe.

If they don’t introduce new weapons then it must be swords!
And a stealthy ele would fit extremely good … an ele that can change the light und thus make himself invisible
