Q:
Hey Ele community! I’m a thief and was wondering if it is worth it to roll Ele? I like the thought of flying into my enemies and blowing things up with fire grabs and moving around as fast as.. Well… Lighting. So here are my questions, is d/d ele viable? Is power Ele still strong? Can Ele be a good roll for wvw roaming? Is the class as cool as it sounds?
Thanks!

It is more cool than it sounds. The ele excels in all areas within wvw but it will take you time to master it. Start with as much defense as you can first and as you progress start giving out some defense in favor of offense if you enjoy the burst/high dps aspect.
D/D ele is the most fun I’ve had in GW2 among all the professions.
Reroll it just for trying, it is Worth it in my opinion.

Ele requires you to mash a bucketload of buttons and throw together fancy combos that grant you additional effects, but once you get your head wrapped around it all it becomes a ton of fun.
Yes, its tons of fun, viable and your welcome in every group, no matter if WvW, sPvP, Tounaments vor Dungeons vor Fractals, as long as you are skilled enough and maybe use the right weapon set.
I would defenetly make one again.

Sounds like you’re talking about a Thief…
Ele is awesome, but doesn’t fit your description very well.
It definitely takes time to master the ele, being able to take on multiple opponents is a great skill of D/D imo. Timing dodges though and memorising cooldowns that you can’t see (because they’re in different attunements) is key to the ele and requires more thought than a simple rotation, like some people might tell you. And the way you sound like I think D/D ele is your style as it allows a good mobility, despite the nerfs. Not quite as good as thieves but adequate. I suggest building either a PTV set first, mixing in some Knight’s then Zerker if you want that extra damage! Anyway post again if you want any builds, sure the ele community would be happy to help :P
Just to echo everyone else: ele is a whole lot of fun especially d/d ele, but it does take time to learn properly. I also find it works best with a many-button mouse for skills so your left hand can concentrate on moving, dodging and attunement switching. I think everyone tends to come up with there own “formula” for this though, which is good. As long as you can move constantly while doing everything else..
Ele is fun but mobility is lacking….gets nerfed more every patch (see boon duration this time) we are reaching mesmer slowly….
@aero actually DD ele is a really good dps 1vs1….not better than thieves yet really good.
