I’m sorry. But it is just funny at this point. Is Anet seriously just ignoring all of this? Do they still refuse to do anything about it? Are they going to wait until there are 0 people playing Ele as a main class/character?
Maybe they didn’t want any specific class building what could be considered “support” and playing it as such. Maybe all the combos were supposed to remain a mystery and a fun “Oh..looky what happened!” moment and we are all supposed to play facemash DPS toons with effects happening all by themselves. Who freaking knows, but the classes who get the most love are the ones who are played as just a fashmash dps class. The classess who are ignored and nerfed into the ground are the ones fighting for a little bit viability through strategizing with the games mechanics. Seriously we need to be just a bunch of mindless mush players and maybe they will buff us because our damage is too low compared to any other class.
Which will just end with me leaving as I find mindless dps a complete and utter bore and will go to a game that makes me think.

I don’t agree. The old behavior (blast finisher on every dodge) wasn’t especially overpowered for PvE and WvW play (sPvP didn’t hold my interest at all, so I’m omitting that). Endurance is an important resource for Elementalist, and that alone limited the rate at which you could use it.
I wouldn’t complain very loud about getting finisher on every spell effect. I think that would be unnecessarily weakened, but it would remain useful.
Is it just me or does anyone else feel that having a Public Test Realm would stop things like this from happening… At the very least we’d have been aware of the change before hand.

Perhaps we can get a “Build Your Own Patch Notes Kit”. Add an area like the PvP Mists prep/test area where we can test out PvE skills and equipment to discover the new bugs and “fixes”.
I did have to spend 3s50c for a respec to verify that Cantrip Mastery still doesn’t work with Mist Form.

Yup, let’s keep this thread at the top… Anet is busy dealing with the blowback from the One-Time-Ridiculously-Rewarded event yesterday. It’s our duty as Elementalists to keep this thread alive and kicking with comments until we get an answer.
The Churning Earth dodge roll (when it triggers, not like it used to be) should be a Blast Finisher, the rest not.

Grandmaster trait people. As for blast finishers, they should just be on 10 seconds each attunement like it was stated in the tooltip.

I decided at launch that I wanted to be a Staff Elementalist. I have stuck with it. I will CONTINUE to stick with it. (hehe “stick”).
The nerf to EA was like taking a walking crutch away from an already struggling profession. I can still get around, but it’s SO much work for so little return. The old EA at least afforded me that second crutch so I could navigate stairs without wanting to just throw in the towel and “roll” a wheelchair class.
Maybe we need to post more. I hope that we get a response at some point but I fear that they don’t look at our forums often.

Kind of. The amount of buffs they would cause would be insane too. A thief horde would be much funnier, though, for the fact that you would see a massive amount of people just disappear.

As a variant Area can increase blust triggers cooldowns, if they think that it trait imbalanced.

I too have been playing elementalist as my main since the first beta weekend. Using EA was just plain fun. It took a fairly squishy class for dungeon running and made them a viable support player while retaining the ability to dish damage. Limitations on regeneration of vigor automatically limit how often the EA effects could be used.
Elementalist is the squishiest profession by far. We have to run around and dodge and think up and execute combos to get the sort of effects and damage that others get by pressing two weapon skill buttons. I play a mesmer as an alt and it is immensely easier to play solo with my mesmer than with my elementalist.
Certainly at the least the earth skill should still be a blast finisher, since it is part of the skill. Removing that is just plain wrong. But, to be honest, the blast finisher should be put back, though perhaps reduced in frequency to an appropriate cooldown. Nonetheless, it makes it much less fun to play this class now.
I never used tornado before, so I can’t assess the nerf effect.
I know of several really good and enthusiastic elementalist players who have switched to their alt guardian as main because of this change.
The people doing skill balancing should main an elementalist through level 80 and some dungeons before thinking they know how to balance one. Try playing as one first.

Went to the island with a new spec that had gobs of toughness through earth and some damage with fire and air and still manage 10 points in water to give myself a boost in hp.
first encounter;
1 Karka. Took me to 10% health in one hit (it’s basic attack), hit earth cantrip then my heal, was in fire so I stacked what I could of might and did some decent damage, with everything on CD I went to earth, #4, #5, mob is up, #2 to shield and auto attack ..I was at 10% health again at the end of the fight.
One mob. One. Single. Solitary. Mob.
I vent my frustrations to my guild. I am told to sell everything I have in my bank, in storage..everything.. to gather money to re-gear myself with the stats I need. At this point I am heartbroken and frustrated that everything I had worked for and accomplished on this character was completely worthless, even my stores in my bank. Because I have to completely re-gear, weapons and jewelry and runes and sigils included. Everything I own on this character is worthless now.
Simply because Anet thought blast finishers on a class dependent on comboing were too powerful?
I am ONLY here because of my guild. I will play with them when they are on. I will give no more of my money to Anet. My monthly `fun` money will be better spent elsewhere.

I fail to see how this is relevant to discussion really, karka damage doesn´t change even with blast finishers there.
But incase you want advice, magnetic shield. They pretty much suicide with their ranged volley.

That was rather bad example to give though, since as i said blast finishers wouldn´t reduce karka damage one bit. It would only make healing up sligthly faster.
There´s plenty of valid places where the nerf destroyed playstyles though, i´m not denying it.

The worst bit of this is that ArenaNet apparently can’t even sum up the decency to make a half baked explanation for something that’s really quite a big problem.
No wait, that’s the second worst thing. The worst thing was when the mod infracted people who asked him/her if they’d reported the EA issue to the developer, in response to the same moderator stating that they report issues that are of great concern to the player community. Apparently, that was somehow ‘off-topic’.
I was the other infracted post. I sent an email saying that I thought the infraction was unjustified but never got a response :S

What exactly was your spec before switching to one you failed with at the cove and what gear did you have?

EA got the nerf hammer but really just got bug fixed. Well, not really a hammer but more like a hatchet. The spell abilities still trigger, do damage, people die, etc.. The wall of tears is just because the blast finisher got taken away, so now we just have Arcane Wave and our standard ability finishers that we have always had, ie. Dragons Fang, Eruption, and etc. etc..
While I understand that some people are upset that they put their whole basket of eggs on one build because they were incorrectly convinced that Arcana builds were the only viable options, and as I have said many times before, they certainly were not and are still not the only viable builds for an Ele. So this really is a LTP issue and nothing more than that.
Just look at the history to this whole drama. First, everyone flooded the forums here wailing and crying that the Ele sucked and that it had no viable builds and etc..
Next, a couple smart people posted video’s and builds about something THEY discovered. Then a whole lot of people all flocked to emulate this bunker build. Now, because of all these people exploiting some traits in ways they were never ever intended to be used, Anet fixed them. Now I guess you will all have to wait for another smarter person to find a build for you, or hey! You can find a build for yourself that works for you!! How about giving that a shot?

The community team only comes in here when posts are reported. The Developers don’t come here at all. It really doesn’t matter how many posts we create, they’re clearly not interested in starting a dialogue with us.

Blasts were there since betas, they´ve been reported before. We all knew they´d nerf the clearly bugged no cooldown blasts. We expected blasts to be maybe reduced to only earth and fire. Some of us even build upon that expectation, one which wasn´t unreasonable by any stretch of imagination.
And once again unintended in itself is not a bad thing. If it´s overpowered, like no cooldown on blasts was, it´s bad thing. But they could´ve tuned it down, without complete removal, it would´ve kept in the good part of the unintended and cut the bad parts…but no.

Also, the real lesson to be learned here is that when this type of thing happens – ie. some smart guy/gal posts a build that works really well, and then people flock to emulate it, Anet pays attention and then nerfs it. Especially when that same person posts like 100 vids of it…..

Builds ae made overpowered
-bunkers, especialy staff bunkers, that abused the fact that every dodge roll was a blast.

Had they just removed blasts from where they were clearly bugged, it would´ve been fine, bunkers would´ve been taken down a notch, but other builds would´ve survived. You know, the builds nobody ever thought were remotely overpowered.
Also i´d like to point that ea went through multiple revisions in betas, and all the time blasts remained a part of it, i don´t see them totaly unintentional Blasts coupled with actual spells that is). And even if they were, it´s not inherently bad thing. What it did for bunkers was an issue, but that´s it, and it could´ve been handled a whole lot better.

- Mist Form no longer allows the casting of finishers as intended
- Signet of Healing’s effectiveness has been reduced by 50% to scale with other healing skills
- Swiftness boons on the Elementalist have had their durations reduced by 33%
Elementalist
All weapons on Elementalist’s have been replaced by spoons
Cantrips no longer have unintended usefulness
All weapon animations have been altered to give elementalist a puzzled expression while attacking
Elementalist will no longer be playable in spvp instead it has been reassigned to clerical duties filling out warrior related paperwork

When did mist form allow casting finishers? If I’m not mistaken, when you use mist form you lose all your traits so EA couldn’t have possibly trigger. You can use Arcane Wave but he doesn’t have it equipped. I’m just confused what did you mean by that.
Signet of Healing is already bad, there are better choices. Glyph should be pretty much a standard choice at the moment (especially in burst meta) with Ether Renewal picked when you would need extra cond removal.
he means you can stomp people whilst in mist form.. you shouldnt say that kinda thing on the forum, or the nerf hammer will come out :P
Yep. I always think of stomps as finishers, just completely forgot about the whole “combo-field” mechanic for a second xD
And signet isn’t actually half-bad for a D/D ele in a combat situation; Ether requires a continuous channel, something difficult to pull off during combat, and Glyph has a relatively high recharge rate as well as requiring you to be in water to make the most of the 25sec cooldown. The scary thing is, I can actually imagine these things being possibly nerfed in a class that has very little viability remaining as it is.

Okay, but how is that activity described as a casting? Anyway, it’s not like you can’t use Distortion with mesmer.
Signet passive healing is a strong point of it, but active healing is really bad and as an ele you need some emergency heals. You already got an access to a lot of passive healing (regen, soothing mist).

And then my metamorphosis into the Warrior will be complete.
