Starting a ele, need help on builds.
There is no build you NEED to work on. My advice is start your ele, then walk outside and mess with different weapons and see what fits with you best. If you like PvE damage/survivability, then scepter/dagger, scepter/focus, staff, dagger/dagger would all work!
The worst thing you can do as an elementalist is to copy someone else and get in a mindset like “I must do air 4+5 and then fire 3+4”. It’s about adapting to your situation, which you can ONLY learn from experience. Play with the atunements, play with the different weapons, and find something that is fun!
^I agree with the sentiment, but when I started playing this game, my first character was an elementalist. At first, I was rather frustrated at how hard it was to level, both blaming myself and the profession. I would’ve shelved it after level 40 if I didn’t stumble on daphoenix’s build. After 40, I started building with tankiness in mind and did really successfully in PVE. Leveling up was a breeze, as I eagerly explored the maps and generally had fun. Leveling up shifted from the difficulty to just having fun and finding new things.
That said, don’t be afraid to branch out, try new things, but at the same time, take inspiration from others. At first, it’s hard to understand how elementalists (or any class) works until later. Once you do, then you can try being innovative.
Everyone needs a little optimism!

Is there a link somewhere to this “daphoenix” build? I’m interested in leveling up an ele and would like to try it out

this whole thread by daphoenix is an explanation on how to use D/D, and it’s extremely informative (and that doesnt quite do it justice)
Yeah haha thanks i just found that actually. Reading it all. Great thread
It’s a lot to sift through but it’s golden and what I’ve used to level my elementalist so far (I’m still only 50). I don’t know how PvE-oriented D/D is but it’s sure fun!

I’m another that was pretty frusterated with the Ele when I first started. I actually have made 3 different eles. I found daphoenix’s thread and that was all I needed. Ele is now my main and I love playing it. There is a pretty big learning curve to the D/D style but once ya get it, you will love it. It takes time and making sure to know when to use what ability. You can do the cookie cutter rotation and still do pretty good but once ya have that down start to go outside the box and see what else you can really do. Below is a link to my youtube channel with a few different ele videos. You can see when I started how rough it was upto now where I have become much more confortable with the class. Agains once ya get it you will most likely love it…

There is also a build video on my channel if ya want to know a good starter build to go with. D/D is good in every aspect of the game to be honest. PvE, PvP or Wv3 the D/D build is fine to run with.

yeah read the guide then go play 8v8 pvp for as long as you can stand.
then pve will be pretty enjoyable.
the pvp builds work pretty well in pve.
at least try to go to heart of the mists and play around with different ideas.
