I posted this in the thief forums, but I want to get both perspectives.

I’m a Sword/Dagger thief (recently nerfed dazelock build), and I’ve been doing some practice in tPVP to adapt to the nerfs and now I’m doing pretty well with it. That is until I ran into 3 matches with D/D Elementalists in a row. I can’t seem to do anything against them. I jump in with my immobilize, then stealth and daze, but then I’m cc’d (they create distance and I can’t daze again) and AoE’d to death really quickly. The same tactics that work against other classes just don’t seem to work here. Any tips would be helpful.

My first thought was to add in a second immobilize from venoms.

This is not a whine thread, but an attempt to gain some understanding.

Elementalists with Off hand dagger can CC you while immobilized if they use Updraft in Air attunement, so make sure you use shadowstep or sword 2 to escape that, because if you don’t, you will feel some serious pain.

most tpvp d/d eles will be cantrip users, so unless you have consistent condition pressure your really not gonna catch us in bursts like that.. doesnt mean you shouldnt try. but unfortunately for you a power/tough/vit cantrips build ele is probably your natural enemy, resistant to conditions, and not easy to take down. really the only thiefs that cause problems are pistol dagger condition builds, or if your taken by surprise out of cooldowns by some glass cannon but that almost never happens.

its worth checking whether the ele is a glass cannon or just a tank with might stacking, in the glass cannon case.. you could probably finish the ele pretty quick if you evade the main dmg bursts, look out for burning speed/ring of fire/fire grab opener. else watch out for churning earth/teleport combo as that often causes huge unexpected dmg. i suggest asking a decent d/d ele for some vs go find an empty spvp room

D/D is a counter to Melee thief, stealth and run away is my best advice.

D/D elementalists have 3 gap closers, 2 knockdowns and some immobilize/cripple skills, excluding utility skills. This is to compensate for the fact that their skills are all short-range (more than melee range, but shorter than pistol range).
The best way to protect yourself from them would be to try to maintain distance and switch to a ranged weapon.
