Hi guys!
I need the help of the community for this one,
a month ago I switched from my glass cannon staff to a d/d build,
simply said, I can’t win, not against good players anyway.
I wanted you to take a look at my build to tell me if it was the build, or my gameplay, that was wrong.
To tell you the truth, I’m still spamming keys, even though I’m more and more capable of analyzing and thinking of the effect I want to do and switching or attacking according to that, it’s still difficult.
So let’s cut the talk, here’s my build and a fairly recent video of me against a thief (over 7 min long), and even though we were playing around, it still represent how I usually fight.

The might and bloodlust I’ve put are the average I stack for each figh and the one I used to build my toon.

I’m still using a third dagger, but I’ve switch from the might on crit to 5% damage.

I don’t plan on getting ascended soon, FoM doesn’t really interest me either.
Don’t worry about “hurting my feelings” or something.
If my gameplay or build is bad, just tell me. with a workaround though, if possible ^.^

I love that quote. More people should think like you – honesty over tact, that’s what I always say. Lots of people think I’m being “mean” or whatnot when I’m just being honest. Thank god you’re not one of those over-sensitive noobs.

Comments on your vid:
- That thief is running circles around you because your swiftness-uptime is almost nil, since you’re only getting it via Elemental Atunement in Air. You need to decide upon a way of maintaining perma-swiftness (most common ways are either Zephyr’s boon or Fresh Air + EA).
- Half the time, you’re missing the CC with Air 5, and when it does hit your opponent, you don’t do anything. You just stand there. You need to capitalize on it with either RtL or Burning Speed.
- The 1st, 4th, 5th, and 7th Churning Earths + Lighnting Flashes in your vid were complete fails. The 2nd, 3rd, and 6th ones were decent.
- You did a single good Earthquake at 4:15, but besides that, they either didn’t even hit your opponent or you needlessly cancelled the skill early. Follow through – it’s on a 45 sec CD, so don’t waste it.
- You’re wasting dodges a LOT. Furthermore, by doing this, you’re proc’ing water EA (cleansing wave) needlessly, when you’re already at full health.
- You didn’t do a single finisher of any type inside of any field in that vid. No area might procs via Earth 4 and 5 in fire fields, no proc’ing fire aura via Earth 3 in/over a fire field, nothing. Since I primarily PvE and my #1 concern is stacking might, I was just appalled (it was a continuous /facepalm). Even in WvW/PvP, you always see an ele do at least ONE sort of combo.
- Your offense in that vid was pitiful. A guard or war could have just stood there and laughed in your face as you tried really hard to lower his health, but continuously failed. You were facing a squishy thief, and even so, hardly ever got him below half health.

Comments on your build:
- You’re in a d/d bunker w/ 0/0/10/30/30, valkaries/knights mix. There is no point to valkaries, since you need to boost toughness rather than vitality. If that thief had the least clue what he was doing, he would have bursted you to death ASAP w/ your low toughness. Change it to a knights/cavaliers mix, and use the Reddit damage equations to determine the exact balance between power/prec/crit dmg for maximum damage.
- That build is good for node-holding, but in open-world WvW, your lack of swiftness will get you killed. Once again, if that thief wasn’t a noob, he’d have eaten you alive.

tl;dr: – If that thief was anything less than the complete noob he showed himself to be, you’d have been killed in under 10 secs (20 at the most). Even if he wasn’t in DPS spec, since your mobility sucked, he could have chained stealth and killed you by attrition. He didn’t do that either, and if you think my criticism towards you is harsh, wait till I get ahold of that thief. >:-)
- You’re just button-mashing. Read a guide, watch a vid, get a clue. lol

Its mostly lack of damage and not knowing combos. You wasted your utilities a lot. Change your build up a bit. I wouldn’t recommend the heal you are using now. Most people who use that and post videos never show vs a skilled necro or engineer. If you can learn to dodge key condition spikes then by all means, use the signet. 0 10 0 30 30 will help you keep perma swiftness and fury if you have boon duration runes. Also, learn the might stacking combos.

Yes it was harsh, but it was even more needed.
I know I’ve got a lot of work to do, and I expected such reply seeing as how I was pathetic in fight, and if I watch my video, I can see I’m no better than a sitting duck.
I know my combo, I’m just not good enough to think about using them in fight
Both of you pointed out obvious flaws in my gameplay, I’ll improve it, and I’ll come back better.

I have a question regarding mist form… I don’t personally run it when roaming, since it adds nothing but an extra stun breaker to my utility set. Something that arcane shield can do, with a 3 hit invuln to boot… and you can still use your skills. My question is, do you fun mist form, and if so, how do you use it tactfully?

100% agree, that was the first thing i had to learn to do when i first picked up d/d way back when.

On your food though, since youre going with more of a bunker style build without the extra auras and the runes youre using, id highly recommend this instead…

I stand by that food when im running d/d, especially with the new cc meta we have going on.

sicne MF was nerfed however long ago, and you can still be rooted while in MF i never use it unless im trying to push into our keep past a blob.

LF, arcane shield, your choice depending on who youre fighting(condi cleanse, stability/protection, etc)

Arcane shield i feel is really great for the ninja thieves that try and sneak attack you and same with the stun wars who think they have you locked down.
