Even d/d eles can land all their “telegraphed bursts” towards any good thief player, the only requirement is to know when it is the best moment to land them successfully.

Have you tried playing d/d against a thief running s/d, shadowstep, and another stunbreak? Good luck reliably landing your burst against that.

S/D with D/P swap is one of the most kittened builds I have ever seen in any game, and it makes me glad that the broken aspects of both weaponsets are getting rectally kittened in the upcoming patch.

I used to hate thieves back when I played this game on my toaster. Some important things to note:

1.When a thief stealths he is trying to position himself behind you for a backstab.
2. Air aura is your friend
3. They are weak against conditions. Even if you have like 300 condition damage, if you land a drakes breath on them it could take 3k of their health while they are stealthed.

Few things i won t agree with:

1) if you can predict a thief, the thief is a bad player…..nothing to do with the profession itself…
The fact most thief players are predictable doesn t mean the clas IS predictable.

I ll add something…
If they wait to have 10% hp before stealthing, they are possibly dead (and bad).
If they stealth with 40% HP you won t be able to kill them whatever you do.

-they canevade in stealth.
-even if they die they may recover before you can see them.

Only way to kill a thief is bursting them…and hoping they are glass.

GW2 balance:
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

What logic did you use to come to that conclusion? Most classes are predictable in one way or another because of rotations. This is a matter of efficiency, not “badness.”

The condi cleanse in and of itself removes one condition every 3 seconds while in stealth. Considering most stealth skills last 3-4 seconds, that’s one condition per stealth. Eles can apply conditions much faster than that.

I assume you mean they can get downed and recover, but I really don’t think this happens to Thief more so than any other class (that award likely goes to Rangers, with their pet res ability). Most players are quite bloodthirsty over kills, so even with the misdirection of stealth and teleportation it’s hard for a Thief to escape death once they’ve been downed.

Only way to kill a thief is bursting them…and hoping they are glass.

On the contrary, in my experience it’s much more difficult to fight Eles who bring sustain. A burst is easy to avoid—especially with an Ele, where it’s typically very telegraphed—while sustain damage/conditions is hard to mitigate.

The most annoying spec in the game is a P/U mesmer doesn’t matter what kind of ele you are. I think P/U mesmer is the most annoying build I think created so far in Guild Wars 2.

I find P/D thieves to be much easier to fight now post nerf to perplexity runes. It is enough that I stopped running -condition duration food and went back to dps food. P/D thieves where never a extremely difficult fight you just really need to be aware of the Ice Spike they still from us that will wreck you against a P/D thief.

I still believe S/D is the #1 Thief spec vs Ele. D/P really doesn’t have alot of dps because the rotation they use allows you time to heal up. S/D thieves, with signet of agility, withdraw, shadow step will port all over the place.

Against thieves I feel like D/D and S/D have about the same chance against thieves with S/D having it much easier against P/D condi thieves as long as your getting good blinds when they try to CnD. I don’t see alot of S/F play but S/F seems to do pretty well against thieves.

Ill answer just this because its the main point against stealth…
Prediction is a key concept for most PvP games expecially fighting games….
Prediction is rarely seen as “skill” in that game…being associated with “luck” (with some exceptions).
And being pedictable means being unexperienced…usually players are predictable until they learn to break their attack patterns.
While a new player will Always perform their full pattern being the top damage…..

Just to explain you how it works:
Most people says updraft is predictable, you have to evade after you see RTL…
I think you can understand why that is wrong…..
I m not forced to cast updraft after RTL.
If i do that i m being predictable and if i miss I am to blame and not the skill.

Thus…using fixed rotations means being bad, exactly because makes you predictable…

As a thief i respect a lot Eles.

Is a hard profession to play but it is also super fun to play.

What i can tell you is that most of the eles i kill easy is because they run glass builds.

They hit hard but most of the times when they fail their main skills (like the fire one that hits like a god) they get very vulnerable.

There are some kind of balanced eles that i just can’t get close to kill.

1 week ago i was dueling a guy in the mill that i could not win a single time, he was more tanky, suddenly a lot of might and hits me very hard.

Sorry for my bad english what i want to say is . . . if a thief hits you by 9k you are going to much glassy.

If a thief hits my burst non glass cannon Ele that has 3010 armor while buffed for over 9k dmg, it only means he will be very vulnerable to my burst as well and it will be an easy win for me.

in order to kill a thief you need DPS….

If you can t kill a thief in 2-3 seconds he will be mile away…. and without rtl you won t be able to catch even a mesmer…..

cast fgs.

when thief appears, cast Rush and Lightning Flash. This will cause Rush to repeatedly hit him, thief dies instantly.

fight bads by being bads. gg.
