I haven’t yet, but I was wondering if there’s a cap on how many mines are generated and if they have an activation time.

Well there is a cooldown between each mine u can place of 2 seconds. And each mine you place lasts for 10 seconds. So in theory, u can have up to 5 mines at once. Correct me if I’m wrong, I suck at maths :p
That doesn’t sound lucrative at all. The mines have the same explosion radius as bomb kit bombs, but a paltry activation range of 60, so unless you’re in melee, they don’t seem too effective.
When I double-checked the stats, it seems to me it’s the exact same mines placed by the Throw Mine toolbelt ability. And those aren’t very good at all even with berserker gear.

well they can crit for 2k so i guess it could be some nice extra damage. But tbh it isnt a good trait only main use i would see is for the boon removal it provides.

IIRC, the mines from bunker down do not actually remove boons, unlike the mine utility and tool belt skill. The did this specifically so someone couldn’t just drop a virtually endless steam of boon removal around an area.
Like turrets, I feel this trait is much better when you’re fighting for control over a specific localized area, like a node in sPvP. In WvW the nature of the combat is such that it makes it more difficult to utilize it effectively, or it gets outshone by other trait choices.
It hasn’t been useful to me so far. I like the idea of it since i run a rifle/FT power build with high crit rate, it just isnt as good as it sounds on paper. It would be so much better if the mines spawned at the enemy instead of on you. That one small change would make this trait amazing in WvW. its good in spvp, but useless in WvW.

Which is sucky, I agree, but on the whole I think this is ok. I don’t believe that every ability needs to be viable in every game format, although it obviously would be really nice if that were the case.
Although if it’s only really useful in sPvP and not PvE or WvW then that is a bit lame… that’s kind of how turrets have always been as well.
bunker down and 1 point in power tree with flamethrower is good for tagging……. for a power build….. you get to loot lots of bags and lots of boom boom
