I don’t use supply crate unless… They are running a build that counters me real hard for example hard condi builds (necro or mesmer). But I would use it in tpvp 1vs1s there its just who wins any other factor of pride doesn’t matter to me.

As a Mesmer, you can spam clones, making an overwhelming number of targets which do a small amount of damage and are indistinguishable from the mesmer, and can be shattered to cause burst, and nobody blinks an eye.

As an Engineer, you can drop a crate once every two minutes, which creates several targets which are clearly not engineers, do LESS damage, go down easily, and can’t be detonated like real turrets, and everyone loses their minds.

I think supply crate is a good elite. It’s what an elite should b, a skill that changes to odd to the engineers favor. It’s not unbeatable but make the enemy change tactic. Only other way for an elite to be good is to give a small advantage with little down time like war signet of rage

Tourney…. use it, play to win.

Hotjoin…. dont use if youre against a rare decent opponent and want to learn. use the other 95% of time when you dont give a smallcat

wvw roaming…. use it if the enemy is running a cheez build, dont use it if enemy is worthy of duel

duel server…. yes, game is not balanced around 1v1 offpoint. But duels with massive elites are boring. The rules are meant to replicate a realistic scenario

-no elites over 90s /120s
- or you can use 180s only 1/3 of matches , lower than 90s can be used every match

I’ll only use it 1v1 if it’s a hard counter. If just just about anything else… you probably shouldn’t need to and it’s better to learn to deal with those opponents without it and thus be able to save your crate for when it’s more important.

You should never care for what other may think of you using Crate in a 1v1.
(in fact, this idea applies to build as well)

I mean sure, using it in a 1v1 can sometimes be wasteful, but if you play to win, and at that situation you felt using the Crate is most needed or appropriated for the benefit of your whole team, then just drop it without hesitation.

I have once been called a Engi noob during a tPvP match by a rank 70 Thief too, who scoffed at the idea of me dropping Crate on him in a 1v1 fight (he was killed by Crate’s immobilize and burning, when I got him to 20% health with a bunker build) , when he himself used Basilisk Venom on me twice. Talk about shameless huh?

As a player who has PvPed since launch in over 14,500 matches,4,500 of which are on engi, the use of crate is totally dependent on the situation. In competitive Tpvp crate is a valuable cd for team fighting or other win or lose situations. In 1v1 situations or in Spvp the liberal use of crate however does not mean the player lacks skill. Crate is part of being an engi as stances are to warrior, litch is to necro, and all other skills are to thier classes. If anyone complains about you using crate just make sure to drop it on them as much as you can. But remember to use it smartly in rated play .____.

I’ll use Supply Crate if I want to. And I’ll enjoy it even more if I deduct somehow that my opponent would do the same if the opportunity was given.

Dude today i had a Warrior call me a “turret noob” for using the supply drop on him

Who cares? it’s prefered to using it on multiple opponents but still if it gets you a kill or especially a cap(or at least neutralizing an objective while you fight over it) then it can be worth it IMO.

But many times i just prefer to rocket boot out of a fight rather then try out my ulti and save it for a group fight, depends on the situation

The feeling is that, you only use your Elite crate because you know it’s a match you’re going to lose without that Elite crate.

The reality is that you only use your crate because your other elite skill options as an Engineer are absolutely terrible. I’ll agree on a no-crate premise to a duel, if my opponent also agrees not to use elites. The amount of people I’ve encountered who ask for no elites on < 90 second cooldowns, but expect to still be able to use their Basilisk Venom/Signet etc while disallowing your only usable elite skill is ridiculous.

If this game was balanced around 1v1s … then, God bless, there aren’t enough derogatory remarks we could make about the developers’ intelligence.

You do what you can to win as long as it isn’t an exploit. Period.

Anyone who cries that you use all of your build to 100% to beat them needs to reassess whether they should be doing 1v1 or not.

They are basically just crying that they lost and trying to find a way to shift the blame from them not winning, to you somehow cheating… because you didn’t hold back… suggesting that you should have held back against them because they are weak.

So actually, they are saying they are weak and you’re bullying them.

Quit bullying weak people, OP.

I hate PVP in games and even I don’t get it when people complain about that.

Your job is to win the fight, to do anything less than use all the tools provided to you would be stupid.

Besides, what else are you going to do, use mortar on them?

Engineer is what I play most in PvP.

If we’re dueling, it’s because I want to duel you. If I want to duel you, it’s because I’m expecting you to be a challenge for me to overcome. Naturally, the whole point is to improve on your own play and learn. Personally, I don’t think it’s wise to become dependent on any one skill. Regardless if it’s a 1v1 or not, if the only success you have is because of supply crate, you are dependent on it for success. If we’re dueling, no, I’m not going to use supply crate. Not until I’ve had several attempts to utilize the entirety of my skill bar to adapt and ultimately defeat you. Against some players/builds you’re going to lose every time unless you do use your crate. So there’s that to keep in mind.

All of that however only applies in practice. At least to me. It doesn’t matter how “Dishonorable” your opponent finds your usage of supply crate in a real match. The only thing that matters at the end of it is the scoreboard. If using my supply crate will help me win, then I’m using it.

The game doesn’t have to balance around 1v1’s specifically. It’s up to the player to use the tools they have.

You can regard Supply Crate as an area denial skill. The engineer is very powerful close to his dropped supply, making it ideal for holding points, or ambushing people in choke points. However, a player can run away, unlike many other elites.
