Really, really like this profession.
Really, really dislike Grenades and Bombs.

I’m mostly doing fractals above 20 in PvE. Is there any fun, but yet viable build that might suit me? I used to play FT/EG, which was really good fun and worked great when I played in Dungeons where people tend to play a bit worse, but that doesn’t feels necessary anymore.

I’m kinda surprised that more people haven’t posted on this thread; It’s kind of a big and core issue, if it is as real as I’d imagine.

I’m ‘new’ to the class, but just finished getting to level 80 and love playing my full condi flamethrowing engie! Here’s the build I am using, for better or worse and your mileage may vary, all disclaimers applied:

You can go FT or a SD rifle build instead of bombs n grenades, However it rarely will be as good as the explosive engineer. FT and SD rifle builds mostly rely on HGH wich forces you to use elixiers wich I dislike since the healing turret aswell the elixier gun or the thumper turret are too strong to ignore. But I guess HGH is highly overrated in dungeons, since you will anyway have much might all the time.

I’d suggest a FT build, using a shield instead of rifle, aswell using thumper turret or elixier gun if required. HT ofc is a must have. This way you still have a huge amount of explosion finishers and a long lasting fire field on the FT. You even got one utility left, maybe a 2nd turret or elixier gun with thumper.

Just don’t be shy, try stuff and master the engineer

The biggest – points the FT has compared to the grenades n bombs are the following things:

• lower damage (significant)
• less vulnerability stacks
• short range
• less cc
• basic just hits 3 enemies

However it’s not useless, there are also good + points:

• fast reactive blind
• one projectile reflection
• aimable knockback
• ultra long lasting fire field with decent damage
• tankier
• ULTRA SEXY STYLISH WEAPON BUURRRRNNNNNNN

People have been posting complaints/suggestions about FT since launch, most “veterans” are probably past caring by now.

The fact is, outside of PvP, everything is viable, so it really doesn’t matter too much. Just play whatever feels the most fun. FT’s big benefit is it does feel kitten fun!

It’s not even that FT is totally unusable in PvP, it’s just really weak relatively. A lot of people still run FT for various reasons /shrug.

PvP it has some good bunker abilities. I mean just hopping around the fire field for 10 sec forces the enemy to pass it and recive burning wich really hurts. It also has good cc and protection. I like to swap between ft and rifle for a hold on the fire field <3
