So this is the build I’ve settled for now after the last patch:

I wanted a bit more toughness and defensive power, the confusion nerf meant I was taking alot more damage from 222222 spam before they went down and that made me switch some stuff around to get tankier. I also like how the new IP and cloaking device work so I got them both…. plus protective shield.
So -20 points in firearms, +10 in explosives for IP and +10 in inventions for protection injection. Out went my givers pistol and my soldiers ring for rabid versions. My precision went down, my hp dropped slightly, my toughness and power went up.

About the vid: some solo action and some duo and trio action with my guild. I haven’t been playing solo lately and I only rarely record group fights so this isn’t my best stuff but hopefuly its still fun to watch. everything was recorded in the last 4-5 days but I barely played during the weekend so.. basically 2 days :p

Ahhhh… no, no, no, I just can’t let go of coated bullets. I like it too much. Maybe if I did less group fights I might drop it…

Although that extra 10 points in inventions is always tempting… I’ve been thinking of swapping out cloaking device for incendiary powder since the former is only useful against immob and the latter is always useful… Certainly wouldn’t miss my giver’s pistol.

Yup I have, a long time ago I made a build for that, tested it our last week, still works wonders ^^ The amount of Burning we got acces to as Engineer is insane, so going for 100% Burning duration and stacking as many skills that give burning as you can are fun times!

Yup I have, a long time ago I made a build for that, tested it our last week, still works wonders ^^ The amount of Burning we got acces to as Engineer is insane, so going for 100% Burning duration and stacking as many skills that give burning as you can are fun times!

I used to use that on a p/p spec several months back, but I decided to ditch it in favour of other stuff. It’s not that it’s a bad trait, it’s just that it will only affect burning, so you’d have to adjust your build around that. I felt it was better to just get general condition duration up to 50% instead of trying to boost burning duration very high at the possible expense of the other things.

I had an experimental flamethrower build using napalm specialist that could apply over a minute of burning in about 2 seconds, but that sort of stuff is generally not a good idea since any condition removal will completely eliminate all that potential.

about napalm specialist, I feel its not worth it to get extra duration for specific conditions in wvw. it might be a good idea for spvp but for wvw/pve its just easier to get normal condition duration.
on a related note, I really like this build in spvp with a rabid amulet, that extra heal at 25% hp really helps alot. its obviously not as much damage as hgh/nades but the survivability is alot higher and you can hold your own even better in 1v1s.

I do use it, just probably not as often as I should :p

A while back I started refraining from using it everytime it’s out of cooldown so I could take advantage of the 100% projectile finisher it provides. Of course, when solo this makes little difference since I have no combo fields so yep, I should try to use it more. Thanks for noticing ^^

Hmmm, that was really fun to watch.

I stopped playing my engineer a long time ago because the more popular builds really weren’t appealing to me. The Grenade Kit is great on paper and all, but I hate having to rely on ground-targeted attacks with a travel time for nearly 100% of my damage.

Your pistol/Toolkit build looks like a lot of fun, though. I’d probably use rabid weapons, carrion armor and coral jewelry since that could all be purchased with WvW badges and a bit of gold and would give roughly the same stats you have. Maybe 2 runes of water and 4 of altruism?

At any rate, I feel like playing my engineer again, so my hat’s off to you, sir.

I notice that your Condi Damage per tick averages around 145. Is due to the Might stacking?

yea, I guess :p depends on might stacks and corruption stacks. no might and no corruption I get about 105 bleed ticks. 25 stacks of might and 25 corruption goes up to about 165

After having switched to a similar dual pistol roamer build for some time (was a bit bored of doing no damage on my tank/support build), I have found one critical disadvantage:

I get a bit more frustrated when I lose fights DX

Luckily I have a sufficient number of winning moments to balance it out.

Hey Mask, very nice build you have there ! Seems to be really effective. Mind telling us a bit on you runes selection ? I understand the water ones for the boon durations, but do you recommend the monk ones just to get more healing power ? Is it that critical to get some ? Also, don’t you miss the piercing shot ? I remember you used it in your previous build…

the runes all work towards boon duration, healing is secondary, just a side effect of getting boon duration runes:
2x superior water = +15% duration
2x major water = +10%
2x superior monk = +15%
+30% from alchemy trait line

there’s plenty of workarounds and alternatives to this while keeping the boon duration thing going on, some examples:
-4x altruism 2x water
-2x water, 2 x monk, 2x altruism
-2x water, 2x monk, 2x strength (or fire, or hoelbrak)
-2x water. 2x monk, 2x earth (but for this one you need to have both protection injection and protective shield or its not really worth it, makes you have something like 5.25s on them)
-2x fire , 2x hoelbrak, 2x strength

-alternatively, you can drop HGH (or 409, but then you’d have to drop toolkit to slot elixir C or just let the conditions do their thing) for potent elixirs and/or use chocolate omnomberry cream. with 2x water and 2x monk you get +100% boon duration on elixirs.

And yes, I do really miss coated bullets, especially in bigger fights. Can’t have it all :<

edit: a couple of thing, first, its really easy to calculate how much extra time you get on elixir boons (don’t trust the tooltips) since all of them have a base duration of either 5 or, more commonly 10 seconds. so you tipically get 1 second for each 10% duration, or half second for stuff like protection or elixir C boons. each 10% will also give you 3 seconds on elixir B might and 2 seconds for hgh. the only exception is stability from toss S which lasts 4 seconds I think.
another thing I’d like to remember is that potent elixirs also increases duration on effects from elixirs, not just boons. stealth and the transformation from S last one extra second with it, not sure about the field on R, but it should too, i’ll try to confirm :p

I’ve been running the following since the patch in an effort to squeeze out more damage and still remain tanky (dropped rabid for carrion and undead runes for altruism/water) and it seems to be effective. Biggest difference from what I’ve noticed is the confusion puts very little pressure on anyone which is sad. People just fight on through. I’m maintaining swiftness protection and 20-25 might with this setup. I tried using vigor on swiftness but so many disables negate the whole thing when fighting multiple players.

Interesting. I have a hard time letting go of the reduced cooldown traits for elixirs and pistols, they always seemed mandatory for me.

You could slot fast acting elixirs and get rid of infused precision and you’d get the same uptimes on swiftness and much more (longer uptimes on every other boon, faster recharge on S, etc).

It looks like a nice way to get extra protection while keeping hgh and 409, but that’s just the opposite of what I would do :p I’d rather keep fast acting elixirs and drop either 409 or hgh.

I was running that before but finding that with the way things flow I’m not missing the reduced cool downs all that much. I do love cool down reductions but you can’t have everything. I would miss having 409 too much, and the main point of my setup is to maintain might stacks and protection uptime. Ill be experimenting more and ill try what you suggest but I do like how this has worked out so far.

Keep in mind that the elixir cooldown also takes 5 seconds off your heal. That can be really valuable. I’ve tried dropping that trait as well, but I can’t find a way to do it in which I’ve been satisfied with yet.
