New Engineer in the game :)
Too weak compared to PvE condi builds? Power builds definitely, not sure about condi though.
I believe WEXXES has a turret build somewhere on these forums.
Just as a note, a turret build cannot compare to the strength of a power build, but if you really wanted to run turrets, I’d recommend going to find that guide.
Turrets are mainly taken as area denial, control, bunkering, or to compliment another build. However, your build is not going to excell in any of these categories and thus will be dominated by every other build out there.
I take it you’re looking to use this build on the PvE side. If you’re looking to fill a support role I’d suggest you take a look at some of our new turret traits. If you’re looking to be a damage dealer or want to play a more bunker/tank style, I’d recommend at least dropping a turret to pick up a kit such as the Toll Kit. Luckily the Tool Kit would still fit into your theme as well.
It’s pretty horrible build for basicly anything (probably even for going afk every few min killing mobs one could find out something better).
For WvW it has completly no use. Even killing sentry would take really long time.
For PvE pretty much anything would be better:
No point there having many deffensive items (zerker all the way, eh…)
Pretty bad damage due nearly to non critical chance.
Too much health in comparsion to heal you can offer yourself.
No boons, but one with about 1/6 uptime – regen.
Rather horrible runes for PvE and pointless for WvW with such build since it wouldn’t save you at all.
Double same-type sigils (only one out of two sigils will stack, not both together).
Bad traits even for turret build.
and so on and on.

Yes, let’s tell him everything that is wrong with a build made by a player new to Engineers made and give him no useful advice at all towards making a build that will work. He wants to use turrets so he probably isn’t too concerned with being optimal at the moment and will most likely pug most of his dungeon runs and just wants to have fun.
Knowing this and unless he states otherwise, we probably shouldn’t rule out every build that isn’t zerker dps. I haven’t taken the time to make a full turret build, so the advice I gave is all I have to offer. If you have nothing more to offer than “Your build is horrible” then maybe replying in posts to help new players isn’t really your thing.
Pretty sure saying negative aspects in builds is much better and much more useful than your “your build isn’t the best”, “other builds are better” or “drop one turret for tool kit!” alike things.
So yeah, I’d say “Your build is horrible and here goes why” is much more accurate thing to say.
My remarks were “Your build cannot function as this, here is something you could try.”
Your remarks were “Your build is horrible because this, good luck with that.”
Possible solid advice to someone who knows a thing or two about Engineers, but harsh approach to the new Engineer and ultimately innefective. Again, new player help, probably not your strong point.
Good we agree on that I explained why it’s not going to work well.
You did leave one good suggestion tho – not using newest turret trait (Experimental Turrets – boons from turrets) would be loss with 4 turrets, but overall won’t change much without at least gear change more towards dps.
But well, we both got our rights and we both see our statements in different colors.
Try 2/0/6/6/0 – because Deployable Turrets is inferior to Accelerant-Packed Turrets. Especially because of no points in Firearms.
Else, before and after the patch a solid turret build would still be 4/3/6/1/0 – with RTB of course instead of the new GM trait.
I’m a new engineer as said on the title. Since my first sight on the engineer, I liked it’s concept for playing as a walking kitten nal with tons of turret. The fact is, people usually don’t play with turret builds which I have the most interest in, because turret builds are too weak comparing to the condition build.
Here is my attempt to build a walking kitten nal in PVE environment ( or WVW ?):

)
Consider adding in one kit- ideally one that gives you a fire field (Bombs for fire and smoke, or FT for just fire but a handy CC and spammable burn). Turrets make you a valuable part of a group, because you have several blast finishers at your disposal, and it’s all the better if you can spam them on a good field. Adding a kit will also let you make use of speedy kits and help you keep up with the group easily. (not to mention the 1-point trait in front of speedy kits will make those handy toolbelt skills even more useful).
If you really don’t want a kit, consider speccing healing as one of your attributes instead of PTV- your heal turret lets you access two different water fields, which means if you have all your turrets down and your elite available, you can drop the water with the existing heal turret, then drop 5 blast finishers (area healing) sequentially.

There you go, build the most effective I could come up with…
good news first: Turrets do fixed damage that is only dependent on your level. They will not do more dmg with more power, nor will they ever crit, therefore they can be used both for power and condi-builds
now to the sad news: turrets do not any dps whatsoever, and two I’ve picked in this build are only there for the buffs they grant.
This build is something that no one really would play in any content, but maybe that is what makes its charm. Basically you will be the group-healer / supporter, making sure that the rest of the lobotomized zerker horde stays up and actually does dps. Throw your turrets withing a 600 range upon a safe spot near (preferably above) the player-stack and spam you condi-removal / light field. You will grant further might upon dropping your healing turret, so keep its overcharge on cd.
I have no idea if you will enjoy this build (or even see the endboss without getting kicked in dungeons), but in case you get accepted in a group, at least you will make sure that everyone is healthy, buffed and polished. And I guess you can spam your other skills as well, but don’t expect any overwhelmingly awesome numbers on your screen, except the green ones.
