Hi engineers, I am new to guildwars and considering making an engineer as my main.

I made my engineer lvl 3, so that I could get into that pvp mist zone, where you are jumped to lvl 80. This way I can test out their spells, but there are a lot I find it a bit difficult to get the right impression of the class.

I am here to ask for some guidance.

Like where can I find all the weapons in that pvp mist zone, to test out my spells?
Which builds are viable for pvp and which for pve?
Any recommendable guides and videos around?

Arguably, this is true for all classes, however Engineer is a bit different in that you can have up to 35 skills at your disposal at one time. Knowing what kits to take with your build and utilizing your combo fields/finishers will be essential to your development with Engineer. Much of this will boil down to what you end up realizing plays into your strengths and then we can provide more specific advice to build upon effectively.

Every map provides a minimap that displays symbols corresponding to type of npc. Hovering over these symbols will tell you more about what services they provide.

Which builds are viable for pvp and which for pve?

Viable is a bit of a misnomer. Anything is viable if you make it so, but you will find that there are options available that work better for a broader range of scenarios. Before anyone goes into detailed lengths with this subject it would benefit you to discover the aspects of the class that you like the most. It is important that you enjoy what you are playing as opposed to being pigeon-holed for the sake of it. Though if that is your true intention, we can tell you stick inside of xyz and not leave.

if you are on NA you can add me. whisper me if i’m online, i have a build and can explain how to play it. currently engineer doesn’t really have a ‘meta build’. flamethrower is cool right now, and there is a soldiers build over on , but most people are trying new things trying to find the next big thing.

We certainly aren’t where we used to be on the pvp scale. It is not that we are outrageously broken, nor are we harmoniously balanced right now. As Phineas aptly described it in another thread:

Pre-patch we were “great/good” in PvE and “meta” in PvP. Now we’re “meta” in PvE and “great/good” in PvP.

Forgive me if I appeared smug there. I was just trying to illustrate that there is an importance in self experimentation, especially now, as the June update was just over a month ago. There are certainly builds that are obtaining popularity, but in general it feels as if everyone is still exploring the new possibilities.
