First and foremost, thanks for making significant progress with respect to kits and their cosmetic place on the Engineer. Long term, I think there are a few other things I just want to put out there in front of my Engi peers and the devs to see what they think:

  • Show stowed weapons when kit is equipped – This is a nice cosmetic nod I think rather than our weapons just disappearing. That said, all bundles do this so it maybe harder than it looks. Better yet, make all bundles show stowed weapons.
  • The shield – While the kit backpack is out of the way to allow our backpieces to visible, there is still some weirdness with shields. Backpieces often travel with the shield only to rubberband back, and the shield covers up those back pieces when stowed. I know the idea of hiding a weapon is unwelcome, but any other creative solutions to this would be welcome to shield wielding engis and our Warrior and Guardian brethren.
  • Kit Backpacks – While a majority of Engis are happy to see kit backpacks go, many still like them. It would be great if these old backpiece skins were unlockable or craftable for people to still take advantage of.
  • Legendaries – Kits and legendaries still do not play well together. I know that is a long term problem, but with even more legendaries coming in HoT, it would be great if we could see some cosmetic carry overs while our kits are out.
  • Racial Kits – While the Charr created the profession, I would have a hard time believing that many of the other races would not have put their own flourish on it when they adopted/adapted it; especially with respect to the Slyvari and Asura.

I agree, the two biggest for me is the backpiece skin/stowed wepon. ‘Look at mah sexy wings’ stows shield and they poof or just no weapon.
And the legendaries, if that’s fixed I’m so farming for Predator and Juggernaut!
The only thing I’ve ever disliked about my enig is the cosmetics, which to me is a big turn off. :L

In the greater blob of things, there is only the zerg.

Stowed weapons would definitely look nice, and fit perfectly the engineer, master of many weapons. The shield would kinda become the new “hobosack” without the “hobo”, although that the scientist shield could look very nice with the MedKit syringe and the elixir gun!

I don’t really know what can be done to the shield / backpiece problem, though.

They still haven’t done anything about the shield toss for Flameseeker Prophecies, so having legendaries affect kits more can take it’s place at the back of the queue.

I think they stated somewhere that they might put the kit skins as acquirable back piece skins at some point, but we’re still not 100% sure. It’s a visual asset they have in the game though, it’s completely within the realm of possibility.

They cannot have and will not implement racial kits. Having kits vary per race causes imbalance in the engineer profession between the races, and they’ve always stated since the beginning that they do not want your character’s race to be a factor as far as build viability and overall power goes.

Of course, that perhaps has not been true in 100% of cases, but it’s why most racial skills are underwhelming, and why they are prohibited in PvP. Introducing racial kits would unlikely be a positive force in the game, although it would introduce more unique flavour.

I think racial kits wasn’t about skills and function, but about pure cosmetics.

Asura having magitech looking kits and Sylvari having plant-looking kits, Something visually similar to Peacemaker or Warden weapons, for example.

So, basically, kit skins. Skins that change the look of your kit set, just like skins that change your weapons, armor, etc.

The argument against giving engineers kit skins (as was suggested with being able to skin the old hobosacks) is that it’s unfair for a profession to have more customization options than other classes.

So I say, Give EVERYONE a profession mechanic skin. It’d be really hard to come up with good ideas for every class though.

Engies can get “Kit sets” that give all thier kits an alternate theme/look.

Mesmers can get a diferent effect on thier phantasms and shatters. Like instead of the magenta and butterflies they could have misty blue flames or have thier phantasms look like holograms and make them shoot sparks when they shatter.

Rangers could have skins/accessories for their pets.

Necros could give thier minions a diferent look?
Guardians can skin their spirit weapons?

Eles, thieves, warriors and revenants, I have absolutely no clue.

Ooooooo I see. Read “racial kits” and thought “racial skills”.

No harm in adding that I suppose, just depends if it’s really worth the art assets. Not sure 5 versions of a bomb bag are really that necessary.

Arioso got it right. It’s just weird to see an Asuran Engi clomping around with steampunk stuff that is very much the Charr aesthetic.

I’m down for is suggestion for other cosmetic flairs for other profs too. It’s just more jaring, IMHO, on the engi (admittedly less so after the patch) than the other profs.
