For a little while now, I’ve been using a somewhat different build than my usual; despite my relative unfamiliarity, however, I was able to defeat several (I think there were about five? Looked like they’d spawned to kill the Lionguard Scouts and decided to camp their corpses) Young Karka simultaneously – I did have to use my Elite skill, of course; I might be good, but I’m not that good. I decided to share the build as a direct result. It’s probably not the best interpretation of the build idea, which was to be able to outlast more conventional builds without losing too much in the way of damage capability.

Traits:

  • 30 Explosives (Shrapnel, Accelerant-Packed Turrets, Enhance Performance)
  • 30 Inventions (Energized Armor, Metal-Plated Turrets, Rifled Turret Barrels)
  • 10 Alchemy (Self-Regulating Defenses)

Skills:

  • Healing Turret (Duh. Can also be used to move enemies away from the user.)
  • Thumper Turret (Toolbelt can be used to set off combo fields, such as Water or smoke. Utility deals damage to multiple enemies at a time, with the added ability to send them soaring away.)
  • Flame Turret (Throwing up the Smoke Screen from this turret enables both Blinding attacks and blind enemies to begin with, with the burn damage gnawing enemies down, and Napalm being used to open offensive combat…or as needed.)
  • Throw Mine (Utility mostly used to control enemy movement, or set off blast finshers; toolbelt used for burst damage, despite unreliability, and to inflict Vulnerability)

Armor/Weapons: I use dual pistols, though a good shield might be better; Blowtorch is handy, since this build (or at least I) tends to end up in melee often, and Glue Shot is great for semi-safely triggering aggro in preparation to lead an enemy into a trap. For stats, I always look for +Toughness and/or +Vitality; I’m currently working on finishing out a set of hodgepodge Dungeon gear with T/V on every piece, along with Superior Runes of the Dolyak- all of my Accessories are Soldier’s something-or-other, as well, with Crests to match. Sigils on weapons don’t seem to be too important for this build – though sigils that grant healing or life-stealing are recommended.

How it works:
Offensive (all while staying on the enemy’s heels): Glue Shot/other Immobilize -> Throw Mine (direction of user’s choice) -> Poison Dart Volley -> Static Shock. When in melee range or closer to the enemy, Blowtorch, place Thumper, Flame, and Healing turrets, detonate Healing immediately for area heal (if necessary) -> overcharge Thumper. Throw Mine and set up Mine Fields as seems prudent.

Defensive: Find enemy -> Find good battleground -> place Mine Field in battleground, Throw Mine and set up turrets at whatever seems an appropriate point -> Glue Shot to aggro enemy, if out of combat -> kite to battleground. Overcharge all turrets, use Throw Mine however seems like a good idea at the time.
