Hello guys.
I usually play a lot WvW,and i really have no problem with rifle + elixir set(seems the only viable to me).
In the last weeks,i tested a lot the sPvP.
At the beginnig was ok,but then i felt forced to change from my rifle to pistol+ shield.
Why?
Class that use stealth,and can abuse the rendering issue of the hide skills,are hard to control with rifle.I mean,if they hit me and they are still invisible…how to to control them with rifle skills?It’s impossible use the rifle control skills with the actual rendering issues.
Pistol+ shield is the way to go for me in sPvP.When enemy costantly abuse the rendering issue,i can use my block+stun skill.I gain the 2 seconds to select them,and start to dps em.
Well…dps….better say i start to condition em…with my pistol.
I usually watch a lot of the tournament streamings,and videos.
I see that many team have engineers,so i try to understand how they play,and their set.
In the last 2 days,i changed some of my utilities,to have:
Pistol+shield + elixir R + flamethrower + elixir S.The elite : atm i use the standard Supply pack,just for the 2 sec area stun,the rest of this elites leave me indifferent.
Again,i feel forced to use flamethrower by the rendering issue problem:i can blind,and push back even invisible targets.
I feel my dps is extremely low…but,if i switch from my bunker+condition build to an offensive one,this rendering issue kill me.
Bunker build mainly help me to select my invisible enemy due to my hight armor allowing me to gain precius seconds of dmg resist(and belive me…there is a spam of classes that use stealth ability in sPvP ,Anet must be blind to don’t see it from their statistics).
The result is i must go bunker for the rendering thing,i gain more time to select my enemy,DPS classes cannot 2 shot me,confusion classes with clones or tons of pets cannot istant kill me whle i try to select my target, BUT i lose tons of dps.
I also tested granades(i dislike em) ,bombs(nice especially vs invisible enemy,i switch btw bombs and flamethrower) , elixir gun(useless,it’s like have a second pistol with a different form,and a healing skill that i don’t need) ,tool kit (the most useless thing i have ever seen in this game) , turrets(every single condition dmg enemy will roflstomp me,and turrets target the near corpse ,pet classes make em useless,also they are not versatile for a dinamic sPvP) ,gadgets(they are cool,i must admit it,but,my cleaning formula 409 is not nearly paragonable to the gadgets…every single elixir i use remove conditions).
Is there any hardcore PvPer here that can tell me his experience?
How do you guys feel in the sPvP?
What is you tactic , set ,build?
Do you have any tournament PvP video(from engineer view) to link me?(i like to see this kind of videos,i check utube every day looking for some new tournment video).

As much as i love this game, my life prevents me from having the amount of time id like to devote to actually playing (im at work now.. heh.) but becasue of this, i mostly sPvP.
The above build is my favorite engineer build, a bit of a alchemist engineer. You have extreme boon up-time, high toughness (to help with pesky thieves) and high condition damage. Their is a fair amount of ultility availiable, and alot of the times i substitute elixer gun with Elixer R (for the stun break, full endurance, and also the revive on the toolbar) i suggested elixer gun for you, because its potent vs thieves (well, stun’n’gun thieves) because it applies Weakness on the auto attack, preventing them from spiking burst damage on you, and you having high toughness, further negates their damage. Basically, you need to save Elixer S to get away from their opener, once you break range, they are done for.
The key to this build is outlasting people, and conserving your cooldowns. With such high condition damage, i can tick roughly 700-800 per second of bleeds, plus auto attack hitting for 200, 350 with crits, and every third hit or so apply a 1k burn. Take in mind, your pistol shots Pierce (due to traits) so positioning is PARAMOUNT!! i can do AMAZING damage by simply paying attention to my position… Pistol shots also explode a small AoE damage on each target they hit, and these AE’s can seemigly proc your bleed/burns on crit, resulting in a Ton of area effect condition damage…. and thats just your Auto attack….. save all your cooldowns for the right situations.
I dislike playing a total glass cannon, this build can sustain very high damage (but that isnt BURST damage, its Sustained) while stil lbeing VERY survivable, if you are careful. But, i have to ask, how is your PC signal/graphic/refresh strength?? Alot of people who have trouble with thieves rendering is simply a latency issue…. Ive even seen people with high end machines that have a very low refresh monitor, and their monitor simply cannot keep up. Its perceived as lag, but its really your own system cant render fast enough, rather than it being server-side.
Takei n mind, all classes have viable builds. ALL classes. Dont let numbers fool you, numbers are situational, if your playstyle doesnt take advantage of certain situations, then that ‘build’ isnt optimized for You…. experiment, and find a niche you like about a build… Also, maybe take some time and watch youtube thief vids, to get a better understanding of how they open up on you. Same with mesmers. This can be crutial, because their are alot of cookie cutter builds out their, just remeber their is a counter to Everything….. if its not on cooldown =p
also, for tourny Engineer vids, id suggest googling " Vudani ". He has some engineer tourny vids that are near identical to this build i suggested, but his playstyle is a bit different. I dont have a vid myself, or id link it, but when i first started engineer, Vudani’s videos helped me get into sPvP with a good sense of direction.

I use a quad-turret/Supply Drop build. It works fine when I’m on voice chat with my teammates. Otherwise, I get raged at for turtling capture points. Still, something about seeing 7 turrets and a dancing Engineer entices everyone on the enemy team to come attack said Engineer, leaving the other points for my allies to capture.
So I’m really just a sacrificial lamb, although I prefer the word “distraction”.

This can be pretty difficult to play right but I think it’s a great build. It’s not a bunker build but it’s a bit bunkery. It is designed for point control.
The most important parts of managing this build are using your blinds properly (you have 3) and dodging (you have a LOT of endurance).
You’ll be very highly mobile with permanent swiftness and you’ll want to make sure you have swiftness up as much as possible (get good at equipping/unequipping kits fast) so that you can dodge more. You will destroy thieves and warriors or anyone that gets within melee range but, again, it does take some practice.
When you use your healing turret, you’ll want to either pick it up immediately to reduce its recharge to 15s, or blow it up to get a bonus group heal from the combo field. I also recommend saving Regenerating Mist (F1) for when your shield #4 is up for an additional group heal.

I would recommend avoiding Gadgets and Turrets. They’re fun to use, but they’re some of our weakest tools available.
personally i love pistol pistol engineer condition dmg build.
i use rabid amulet and runes of undead, 1 pistol has sigil of earth for bleeds, and 1 sigil of minor precision for that 0-12% crit chance buff depending on how many people u killed (those type of sigils work even with kits)
for utilitys i use bomb kit, elixir gun and the elixir with fury/ret/swiftness i think its r? but i dunno without looking, anyways… is a great 1vs1/supporter and pointdefender, using pistols for getting bleeds,burns, poisons and the bouncing confusion.. then using bombs for bigger groups or to drop while running away or circling etc.. elixir gun can be used for applying weakness, really good retreat and a nice cure condition combo field, fire bomb and smoke bomb also work like this nice combo fields, shame about lack of finishers as projectile finishers are abit unrelyable.. anyways i can post a vid of my build in play. sorry about the loud music.. i noticed after i posted but it took 2hrs to render the vid.. so i didnt have patience to do it again!
all this being said, there are certainly alot of annoying bugs on engineer that need to be addressed but using kits and pistols i find engineer to be both fun and effective, not too mention that kit swaps take 1 second..
SPvP I find engineers loads of fun to play and very effective, either with a roaming rifle burst build or a bunker p/s build.
Loving this class in SPvP.
Despite what many people say about engineers only being viable in a defensive or bunker build in tournament PvP, I’ve successfully used an offensive Engineer and have won my share of tourneys with it (mostly PuG’s too). I’ve had no problems fighting nearly any combo of profession or build so far with my current build.
It’s definitely a surprise for most groups to see an engineer roaming instead of defending and many times they don’t know how to react appropriately.
Yeah I’ve used a roaming rifle/discharge burst build with the flamethrower for extra toolskill and knockback to great success.
Playing either way is loads of fun.
