For example, the flame legion bosses/elites in CoF that use a flamethrower that have a constant stream, I’m assuming and was pretty sure WoR does not reflect this (because it’s not really a ‘projectile’ I suppose). Would SotA counter this? Or would SotA post-nerf die instantly?

Another example would be the mesmers (I think) in ARAH that use that laser beam. How can I counter these for myself and my team? Being a guardian I am heavy on protecting my allies.

Is the only solution to just toughen up and dodge around/interrupt?

Thanks for any advice!

There’s two tactics that I know that works for this.

One is LoS: Line of Sight, you get outside the line of sight and the beam will stop. Monsters AI will make them go towards you. Use a pillar, a wall or something

The other is GooS: Get out of Sight, as in, run as fast and as far as you can.

In WvW the GooS is usually the only possible tactic, so that’s why we must use Shelter and Renewed Focus while we focus on applying it.

Edit: Shield of the Avenger will not stop it, and if I recall correctly not even Sanctuary or Shield of Absorption will.

I Believe those attacks are just like our staff attacks.(not sure if they ignore LoS though) and work a lot like any ground targeted AoE. The only thing you can do is run away, although if you wanted to help vs it maybe spam some protection on the party.

I hate those types of mobs soooo much. My current best counter to them is hard control or renewed focus it while your team eats away at them.

Specifically for the flame legion elites, I pull in the groups with binding blade, then I seal them in with ring of warding. Precasting stability with SYG, I follow up with tome of wrath using quickness and the AoE knockdown. This gives my team enough time to burst AoE the hellstorms to death before they continue trolling you with the flamethrowers. If they’re still alive and chasing me, I try to dodge roll or mitigate damage in such a manner that they stay in one general area, so my team can finish them off with AoE.

Save your Shelter and Renewed Focus for when they target you. Your best bet is just timed invulnerability. Also, don’t cross the streams. Some of those, excluding bosses, are CCable – Banish works, as does any other knockdown/knock back.

quite often they are slow to turn when performing their stream attack, so you can dodge through them and stand behind them. ( depends on the mobs though )
