Is it just me, or does the Guardian lack any form of viable range?

The Staff is very useful but doesn’t really provide any damage and Scepters, albeit our best ranged option, seem to do minimum damage and have a very limited range on their attacks anyway.
I know that the Guardian is a primarily melee class but even Warriors have some very viable range possibilities.
Anet has said that it is looking to release more skills/traits and maybe even weapons to different professions. I hope that some of these will boost the Guardians ranged capabilities. (Ideally adding something like a ‘Spear’/‘Harpoon’ throwing weapon).

Anyway I was wondering what everyones opinions were on this point? Has anyone found a truly viable ranged build for a Guardian?

Scepter’s a great secondary weapon.

It’s just that the game misleads you into thinking it’s a 1200 range weapon.

In PvE since enemies just sorta stand there, scepter does good with smite when traited and equipped properly. Against people though, it’s of more dubious use, but it really depends if you can get that skill 3 off.

For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards,
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

Against any moving target Scepter is the definition if a hit-or-miss weapon. But it can be made to work. Personally I dislike it for the aesthetics: there’s nothing inspiring about throwing blue tennis balls at people.

Sceptre is more of 600 range weapon. Try to stay inside this range and it works a lot better. That is why skill #3 exists to stay inside this range. Its not for bombing at 1200, that is for sure.

We don’t need to make mandatory gear treadmills, we make all of it optional

It is not just you. Guardian is the most range limited class in the game and has been since release. Luckily, we are also the most tanky class, have decent options from within 600 range and have some decent gap closing options.

scepter actually does a LOT of damage. you may not see high spikes or huge ramp ups like you can on other weapons, but over time, steadily, you’d be surprised how much damage the scepter pumps out (yes, given.. all your hits connect).

that being said, it’s definitely super effective at half the max range of the weapon.

the most viable ranged build i’ve come across so far is actually i feel very effective and in your face. works great in WvW and PvP, not so much necessary in PvE but still viable… and it would be utilizing GS, sword/torch of focus and judge’s intervention. and yes, you guessed it, YOU, the Guardian, are the projectilve itself. max range of 2400. Devs on forums stated, “Guardian scepter 1 is the most powerful auto attack in game.”-Quote/end quote.

The shame is that it has no projectile finisher percentage and has some of the worst tracking in game. That makes it “Balanced.”
