this update just seemed so strange. perhaps, they are planning for something bigger. one of the things that attracted me towards the Guardian in the very beginning was the fact that they had spirit weapons and seemingly more interesting utilities (chose Guard over War as i’m “melee” and heavy class at heart) and tested them. were meh. was hoping for ANet to fix them one day or have them more viable.. but i guess even that seems lost for now.

that being said… battle presence fix is neat! so is empower. can’t wait to test these out. on a similar note, when will PoV be fixed?

i quite enjoy and look forward to class patch notes. donno why.. but this one for the Guardian has been slightly, underwhelming, if you will.

SW builds are so uncommon I doubt that many people will be effected.

Thats the funny part. It was so uncommon and it was hurt by the nerf bat. kitten a.net. Warriors can solo Arah path 2. how about making hundred blades deal a fixed 500 damage for the lulz? WTF!?!?!

With the fix to the reckless dodge bug, I doubt warriors can still solo lupicus. Once they pop all their stability/blocking/healing/invulnerability skills and get bubbled again, they lose.

Just tested SoA against the Blue Lord NPCs in the mists and sadly it died in literally 2 seconds, only absorbing 1 ranged attack.

Looks like it will only ever be useful in scenarios when you’re just repelling ranged projectiles, with no AoE/condition effects of any kind

I was secretly hoping that at least the dps of the hammer/sword would scale with your stats, but sadly it still doesn’t.

On the bright side, at least I will have an extra utility slot free for FoTM now…

It’s almost like they were intending to change the trait Eternal Spirit to also make the spirits invincible, to encourage people to start using Zeal more, and then forgot to actually update the traits in the patch…

ok here is the video of me tanking the champion mob in orr

What exactly makes this video relevant to the discussion at hand?

It’s not even very impressive. Anyone, and I do mean anyone, can solo that particular champion without much trouble.

Guardians heal, it’s what we do.

Thieves turn invisible and steal stuff, it’s what they do.

Rangers shoot things and set traps etc, (they need a buff cause warrior range is better than theirs) it’s what they do.

I could keep this up for every class but you get the idea. Take away our healing and you take away our classes main mechanic.

We have some useless skills and useless traits that need to be changed to something viable so that we have more build options instead of Monk or AH. I don’t want a buff that gives me the ability to DPS like a warrior and heal HP like an ele traited for 30 water.

I just want balance at the end of the day for all classes so we can stop whining about stuff and get back to enjoying the game.

Guardians heal? Since when?

We heal ourselves, but even elementalists and warriors are better at healing allies.

People keep saying that a guardian has its own advantages that replace requiring other abilities. thats such a load of bs… Just because my guardian can support the team decently doesnt mean it has to be deprived of some other basic abilities other classes have. My #1 concern is ranged weapons though. Of course melee weapons need to stay dominant on the class, but there is still ALWAYS a need for a decent ranged weapon. oh and if you’re one of those people who says scepter is decent, please do us all a favor and jump off a cliff

I find the fix to battle presence to be nice but it’s one of those traits that appears to be useless to me. It encourages you to never use it’s active skill. Even with the fix, i’ll still never use it.

The aura works on allies even if the virtue is on CD from using it.

Oh no kidding, well now, that’s nice.

Edit: After looking at it again, still not worth it. My reasoning is because you’d have to go 30 into honor for it, 20 into virtues for the boost and you’ll never reach AH.

Contrary to popular folk tales (or any meta-anything), AH or Monk aren’t required-nor are they the “only two viable builds”-to do really well with Guardian, and even less to have fun. I use AH ocassionally so I know how it’s good, but for the same reason know it’s not an essential skill.

Since the change, I am running 0/0/20/30/20 and it has been my most effective build ever for my playstyle so far (note that you do not need to buy Absolute Resolution for Batte Presence to be good, but I did so since I am not even running full Healing Power at the moment.) I am not missing AH in the least, but perhaps it is playing experience helping me out (not that AH users are inexperienced.) Battle Presence is for teamplay, but I even run it solo so random NPCs benefit from it-despite that, I am able to solo almost everything without fear (I like how Battle Presence is a totally selfless trait.)

Note that if you don’t like investing in Healing Power at all, Battle Presence will always be a “bad” or “sub-optimal” choice for you, but for those of us who enjoy it, this is the best fix so far for the Guardian, and a long overdue one at that (Purity of Voice should be fixed ASAP as well.) It kind of makes up for the sad Spirit Weapon blunder (IMHO), because the poor weapons weren’t that amazing to begin with (I take that back; they were nice, and fun to use, but I very much preferred having other skills in their place). Battle Presence does now make a difference, though it also isn’t “essential”; however, so aren’t the other commonly used traits, quite honestly.

i have about.. 5 builds in my head now. 3 that i actively play, 2 that are being tested out. some variations of AH or MF. at the same time, some have minimal involvement or barely any in the valor line at all. sure you may feel you HAVE TO INVEST in that line, but if you can find something else that works, why not go for it?

Agreed, i’m all for experimenting so major props to Star and others for thinking outside the box. AH and maybe a few tweaks works for me. I’d love to have an alternative to where I don’t need it and not drop quickly.

I think we all need to slow down a bit as well. Looking at the majority of this patch, it was mostly bug fixes with few adjustments. I’m not sure when we’ll see any significant changes but it’ll probably be either in Feb or March.
