Regarding combo fields and finishers … when using GS, #2 is a combo field and #3 is a combo finisher. However I seem to only get the finisher boon randomly.

Is there more to combo fields and finishers other than activating one, and then the other while the first is still active?

The reason it seems random is because whirling wrath only activates the light field via its projectiles.

That’s pretty much it. To activate a combo field, you just have to use a finisher inside, or have something pass through it.

Are you using Finishers in overlapping fields? If two people have combo fields down in the same place, priority goes to the first field, then the second.

Sometimes you won’t see the name of the combo effect trigger, but it should still trigger. Can anyone else confirm that? I’ve experienced that a few times while grouping.

That’s definitely something i’ll have to test when I get home tonight.

The easiest way to test this is probably to use a hammer, autoattack until you get the protection field, activate purging flames, then mighty blow. If what you say is true, you should get both retaliation and 3x might.

If anyone has the time to test this before i head home (in about 9 hours), please chime in

No, I was testing simply trying to set off my own combo field with my own combo finisher. The randomness of Cleansing Bolts fits my observations though.

I haven’t paid specific attention to the name, however I do know that sometimes it will play my toon’s sound bite and sometimes not (depending on what’s going on around me). I’m not sure if the effect happens regardless of that (most specifically in the cases of boons and conditions that are applied).

Sorry, I must have misspoken.

If you have overlapping fields, you don’t get two combo effects. Your combo finisher activates the first combo field to drop. So if you have Symbol of Protection, and then activate Purging Flames, and then use Whirling Wrath, your finisher is going to activate Combo Field: Light, not Fire. Fire won’t be active unless: A) Symbol of Protection fades or B) You use it in a place where there’s no overlap.

BTW, Eveningstar did you play Rift?

I did play Rift, but for all of thirty minutes. I do know Ciderhelm, though. He was on my server in World of Warcraft, at least briefly.
