After some testing with the spirit weapons I find 2-3 of them in a good/decent spot with the recent changes to use the command without making them die with no trait for it. However I feel like the command on spirit sword is quite underwhelming compared to the 3 other spirit weapons. The AA on the sword every 2.5s is pretty meh too even when traited for 50% damage. To accommodate the active playstyle of the game I’d like to see Spirit sword’s command be changed into something like Whirling Wrath, or Whirlwind Strike from warrior or Izerker. Currently even if you land Spirit Sword’s Command it fairly mediocre damage if it crits(Which is rarely unless you give them fury). The idea behind that is from the fell of it spirit sword is supposed to be the damage out of all the other weapons, hammer is CC, Bow is Support and healing, and Shield is damage mitigation/projectile absorption. How would you guys feel about giving greatsword a new command active?
aha interesting.well first of all i commend anet for reworking the guardian spirit weapon skills .they are now somewhat viable in pvp but personally i use the hammer only because of the cc and none of the others because its a waste of utility in tpvp but maybe not for solo 1v1 fight.
one point you made which i definitely agree upon is that the dps of the spirit weapon is very low(other than command skill if traited) and their AI is quite poor. the spirit weapon need to have the ability to lock on a target. a good comparison will be a regen beatmaster ranger.if traited the beasts do really high damage every few seconds whereas the damage on the spirit weapon AA is very low.
last issue is the fact that it takes too many traits to get what is needed out of spirit weapons.there are a total of 5 TRAITS to get what is needed out of spirit weapons.those are a waste of traits.specially in the zeal trait line.combine some of these traits like reduce weapon skill and reduce command ability cooldowns by 20 percent.
in point form my recommendations to the awesome anet devs:
1. rework the spirit weapons for better AI and increase range
2.Increase spirit weapon auto attack damage
3.combine the spirit weapon traits to avoid wasting trait points and opening more “hybrid builds”.
(which are usually poor for guardians,most of the time its an either /or situation which would not be the case if we had lower colldowns on skills in general.everybody knows once a guardian pops his heal and elite,he’s done.)

Tbh though it should be the other way around, sword is just based on damage and nothing else, hammer’s Command doing more damage and provides a 3 second knock down, and it can knock down from a decent distance if not chilled or crippled. Not to mention the AA on spirit hammer knockbacks on the third chain. The crit chance on spirit weapons also feel very low as well, unless you provide them with fury but even then it’s really not that high, and none of them scale with your stats aside from bow with healing power. Spirit Sword does low damage and it’s hard to land the command still unless the target is rooted. I just feel like spirit sword needs a more mobile command skill to improve the usability and worth of using it, atm it feels like a dps loss if you use it, and it hits or miss with root on spirit sword.
As far as the other spirit weapons go, Spirit Shield is quite decent, stun breaks applies weakness and aegis, while doing okayish damage on the active for what it does. Hammer is the best spirit weapon by far, Spirit bow could use some tweaking on the condi removal, like making the AA bounce between allies and a improved AA speed so you can actually clear conditions.

Really a simple “fix” for the sword would be to make its attacks cripple the enemy.
At least then guardians wouldn’t be so kitten easy to kite.
As for all the spirit weapons being so easy to kill, they should combine spirit weapon mastery & Expeditious spirit then create a new trait which increases their health by 100% & makes them do their command upon death (similar to ranger spirit & necro minion traits)

This is an interesting idea, I liked it. This would really make spirit weapons an option to build.
