We won’t. The bottom specialisation slot has a gold border, indicating that you can choose an elite spec there, and thus you can only get 1 spec at a time.

Plus, elite specs change the name and class icon and the profession mechanic, so 2 can’t coexist.

Based on some other previous leaks, it’s a condi + healer/support.

As for the name, Firebrand has an interesting meaning:

firebrand
Merriam-Webster: one that creates unrest or strife (as in aggressively promoting a cause) : agitator

The actual weapon skin is the standard ascended axe. You can see it right above the aegis boon icon as he wields it.

So, guard axe will probably be similar to elementalist’s dagger in Air attumenet (the lightning whip), in that it has longer than melee range, but still short, and creates a ghostly weapon to attack foes. After all, Guardian has always had that Green Lantern hardlight element.

Why? That’s what DH is for.

Not completely true. I don’t think an elite spec is binary in terms of being exclusively power or condi. DH actually offers a lot for burn guardian builds (in pvp/wvw settings):

Granted, it does more for power builds.

What we’re all hoping for is that Firebrand will finally give guardians a decent condition based options that don’t rely on opponent ignorance to win. This is probably what firebrand will bring to the table but that doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t offer power-based options.

Just for fun: I’m willing to bet that axe is going to be a weapon well-suited for either power or condi – power as is, condi/hybrid if traited for.

All I gotta say is, Virtues better be on a low queue down, axe skills better be on a low queue down, and dps/supports/utility Virtues should be comparable to Ele’s attunement usages.

So good that guardian had no place in pve, and even now only plays as a tier 2 dps. The support/tank class with no support. “Hey guys, we should add taunt to the game. Then give it to warriors. Actually, let’s just make warriors one of the better supports in the game, but also better condi than guardian.”

Yeah, Firebrand is a pretty awful name and it doesn’t correlate to tomes much. The leaker on reddit kept referring to it as “Purifier”, so I suspect “Firebrand” is just a placeholder or something.

How does purifier correlate to tomes?

A firebrand is a demagogue, and books have been historically used to spread ideology and belief.

And even if you take purifier seriously, it’s like they just wanted a synonym for healer. I would rather they called it priest and be done with it, if that was the case.

Sounds like using terrible pokemon weakness/resistance logic to justify a bad name, kind of like Dragonhunter. :0

I don’t particularly like “Purifier” but it’s still miles better than “Firebrand”. Purifier obviously correlates to the spec’s focus on “purifying” by burning (probably) and “purifying” by healing/cleansing, both of which are done by tomes.

Not really sure how you can say that without knowing anything about the elite spec’s skills, although I doubt Zeal will see any use until it gets buffed regardless of the elite spec. If tomes open up the way for a healer build, you can be quite certain that honor will be used wherever that build is used.

Then tell me how firebrand is a bad name, without bringing purifier into the mix. How does it not work, what’s bad about it?

It has little to do with the specialization, and it just doesn’t sound appealing at all, although the latter is subjective. “Firebrand” sounds brash and reckless, yet the elite spec seems to be themed around knowledge and magic via tomes, neither of which are at all associated with being brash or reckless. It’s not as bad as Dragonhunter, but either way there are much better names to be had.

So now your opinion is fact, is it? The reason people didn’t like Dragonhunter was because they said “aren’t we all dragonhunters?” without knowing the name was inspired by medieval Witch hunters. So it seemed a bit redundant at the time.

No, the reason people don’t like “Dragonhunter” is because it sounds like cliche garbage regardless of whatever contrived lore the devs felt like attaching to it. People don’t care about how someone came up with a bad name, it’s still a bad name.

It does sound basic, but at least it actually really fits guardians, although I find it ironic how you can say “Purifier sounds like it was thought of by a 12 year old” when you’re literally defending “Dragonhunter” in the same post.

If I had my way I’d probably call it “Monk” since tomes heavily referenced monks, and the spec has a tome for smiting/healing/protection (or justice/resolve/courage). If not that, then “Archivist” or “Chronicler” or something.

Just using your own argument and showing you what it looks like.

Your own 3 ideas are better than Purifier I will admit, though they are a bit on the passive side. Demagogue or Firebrand conjure up much more active visions of a profession out in the field using tomes to obliterate their foes rather than someone who spends their life inside a monastery, studying.

It’s a little premature to write off entire trait lines.

There could a trait applying AoE condition damage when you heal an ally based upon heal amount, in which case Honour with Selfless Daring and Receive the Light could be awesome. Or Signet of Courage, or traited Battle Presence.

Or a trait that makes symbols do additional conditions every tick making Writ of Persistence better.

Or an interaction with Vulnerability applications that could make Zeal more formidable and have some synergy.
