Toughness OR Healing Power Stats?
Unless you’re making a support build, ignore healing power and go with toughness.
Healing power is generally regarded as a weak because the scaling for most abilities isn’t strong. Certain builds do utilize healing power, but they’re built around the stat and are generally support builds which use abilities to heal yourself and allies and don’t kill things quickly.
Aside from that, toughness reduces the amount of damage you take from direct sources (not conditions). Healing power makes abilities that heal stronger, but not by a lot, and are reactionary in nature. The other part of the equation, vitality, gives you more hitpoints. Soldier classes tend to prefer toughness to vitality, but going fully into one or the other is not recommended.
I use Cleric’s and Sapphire gear exclusively (except back item…there’s no HP back item). I’ll be swapping to Tough/Vit ascended rings only because there’s no Sapphire clone. Why?
Easy. People don’t look at the entire picture with Healing Power. It scales strongly for some things, weak for others. But it scales for a LOT of things. Rejuvenation (Resolve’s heal—effect increased with Absolute Resolution trait), Regeneration, Selfless Daring, and your #6 heal are just off the top of my head. If you run AH, it scales with that too, even if it does scale weakly. Unless you’re getting torn down in seconds, it’s still worth it.
Healing Power isn’t reactionary, it’s a soft Vitality for Guardians when you consider all of our passive healing ability. With some skill, you can make a fight against a group last a very long time (I’m talking large groups). The longer the fight lasts, the more that healing power is worth. It’s also much more useful at countering conditions than Toughness (doesn’t affect condition damage) or Vitality (once it’s gone, it’s gone).
The Power on Cleric’s/Sapphire and proper weapon sets and traits also lead to efficiently short fights. Or in other words, you don’t take forever to kill things like people believe. It simply takes practice. Learning to burst effectively also helps.
I could go on, but I’m just going to wait on some videos I’m uploading. I’ll be posting my build and examples of combat with it pretty soon. 36 hour HD uploads…ergh.

how much you got left on upload? And how in the world are you doing any damage without crits lol
637 minutes. >< That’s without me playing GW2 while waiting. It only covers the build though, with a short combat teaser at the end. I just finished a combat minitage, but it’ll be 3-4 days before that’s up. GG Youtube.
Also…more damage with low endurance, more damage per boon (only 1% per boon, but it’s there), and effective use of the GS and Sword/Focus (primarily). Retaliation and burn blocks are a huge part of it as well. Might also has a high up-time.
Think I have it figured out. Gonna go try it XD
