Our Ranger traps are supposed to be getting some reworks done to them though … so I’m holding off on comparing traps.

The Guardian’s new +15% dmg trait has me concerned though since that allows this traitline + one other to give them a total of +50% dmg on their target(s).

• Big Game Hunter + Fiery Wrath + Zealous Blade + Symbolic Avenger = 15% + 10% + 5% + 20% = +50% damage … from two specializations

Here’s a mean example which I’m probably going to partake in on my Mesmer with my Guardian buddies

• Mesmer: Mass Invis
• Guardians: Binding Blade … damage will break their stealth but they’ve got you now
• Guardians: Symbol of Wrath
• Guardians: Pull
• Mesmer: CC (shield will be great for this)
• Guardians: Whirling Blade

Profit.

did you check Fire / Air eles they have 60% in those 2 lines alone if you lump in water they can reach ~86%

I really hope so.

From what ive seen they’re not doing blanket reworks/buffs of entire classes. So unless traps are part of their project focus for those classes they probably wont be touched.

Like guards now get traps, thus they’re coming in strong. Mesmers get their new wells. But nothing else is being touched (from what we’ve seen).

I really hope so.

Agreed on the rework. However, there are some things which should be kept in mind.

• Ranger and (new traited) Thief traps have a significantly lower cooldown.
• Rangers get combo fields which can be very powerful if combined with projectiles
• Especially Thieves rely less on utilities for survivability than Guardians

Guardian traps look very strong (I’m pretty sure they will tune down the number of hits per trap) but after some theorycrafting I’m having a quite hard time to find an offensive build which sufficiently benefits from using them. Most of the time I feel like I would sacrifice way too much defense.

In terms of coolness… It’s REALLLLY hard to beat a time mage bro.

It’s why Hiro nakamura kept getting nerfed…
And why Shadow the hedgehog is OP.

What about unschathered contender, 20% while having aegis?

In all this discussion about damage modifiers, let’s not forget our own updated Mental Torment GM that adds +50% damage to MW on inactive targets, and that’s also in the same line that gives +10% vs. Vulnerable targets from a minor.

Also I thought I heard Master of Fragmentation may also have an additional damage mod? Not sure on that of course, but if not it may not be as desirable of a GM. (Although 20% increased chance to crit is not exactly bad either! )

warriors have 50% crit chance and 20% damage when opponent is cc’d. With ALL skills :P

The point was that we too are looking at massive spike damage increases with the upcoming patches. For a power shatter Mesmer MW is obviously the main source of damage, and having that boosted by up to 60% (most don’t actually take MT right now AFAIK) will be pretty significant. Especially when talking about Guardians who will surely also have to give up some important aspects in order to increase their spike damage.

Fat lot of good all that crazy new DPS will do them when they get 1-shot by a 15+k MW. ;-) (They being generally quite susceptible to big damage-spikes themselves.)

We also get a trait that enhances Torment damage by 50% when moving, and we’re clearly being turned into the masters of Confusion again, along with big improvements to Confusion itself. All that and we gain a significant amount of survivability even for the classic GC shatter build with AE Blindness on shatter, baseline 1200 Blink range, etc.

So the grass isn’t necessarily all that much greener on the other side.

Yes chronomancers are cooler than DH because they dont lose their class mechanic, chronomancer adds on to the base mesmer shatters instead of making them all behave differently by just picking the spec. You can play a well support mesmer w/o having to press f5(really dumb example I know) but a guard cannot opt to use default virtue actives while having DH active.

And yea Mesmer will have place in Party via perm Quickness and option of buffing others with Alcarity. 1 Mesmer can basicaly double party dmg in long term. show me other class that can multiple soo much dmg of 4 other ppls.

Might blasting elementalist phalanx warrior say hello ! oh and Jon Peters suggested a TW-like elite for guardians yesterday so a staff guard might too.

In all honestly i’m having serious trouble believing any specialization will surpass chronomaster’s fun and creative playstyle.

Mesmer has always been the coolest class concept wise. This won’t change in terms of comparing the profession specializations. Unfortunately, the mesmer “cool factor” has historically been mutually exclusive with “effectiveness”.

well being able to control Space and Time is much more powerful in theory than dragon hunting lol so yes name wise it’s much cooler
