Indeed, when i am going to try something on mesmer i pretty much always go on the forums/wiki/reddit and make sure the skills and trait i want to use actually work. Just an example is how inconsistant +daze duration has been from for example Confouding Suggestions and Mesmer runes. You can never quite be sure. I never felt this way when playing other classes, except maybe ranger- probably the second buggiest class.
