Nice to see a shatter build having success in WvW, I’ve always been a fan of your vids.
To me I agree on some of your sentiments, shatter builds like yours have a lot of risk/reward to it and a lot of active play. Alot more exciting to watch then condi builds kiting each other in an attrition battle to see who succumbs to bleeds first.
I think Mesmers are the main culprits of how condition builds can be so passive. Nowadays 80% of mesmers you see are condition builds and I think there is a reason why this is so.
All these conditions on clone death traits, torment on blocking, auto attack inflicting conditions from range, clones themselves proccing conditions, sigils/runes, etc. These builds tend to play themselves basically. Worst part of it is the conditions are so constant and spammy and it is hard to dictate what you should dodge. Which is why I tend to play mostly a shatter mesmer myself because although it will struggle in some situations, it is still well worth the reward in others and is very satisfying to get a successful shatter off and watch people explode..
Thank you so much for your feedback. I know it seems kinda like I make fun of other people that play pu or condi, but I don’t mind them. What I love about playing the shatter spec is that you’re not immortal and any mistake you do will be really unforgiving, making it more exciting/rewarding when you win those outnumbered fights. The feeling is idk hard to describe, but it feels amazing shattering. I’m currently playing helseths build atm for solo roaming, gonna try to make some solo roaming vids but its difficult due to school & me getting interested in spvp.
Joe, I find that shatter is really strong underwater. I am able to kill lots of builds i would normally have issues with. If you ever shatter underwater what rotations do you like to use.
Oh and how does it feel to be a Bamf.

I only know the harpoon skills, none of the trident. I wish I was good to even know any of the water skill rotations haha. All I know is mesmers pretty good mobility underwater.
Awesome Guide/Vid Joe. It was worth the wait!
I’m probably worst than anyone here in shatter mesmer but I like the following rotations and want to share with people
Vortex(5)>Illusionary Mariner(3)>Feigned Surge(2)(2 again if too far)>dodge>F1. If all landed you’re looking at roughly 12-17k damage against full zerk in pvp. WvW might have better effect since you have larger crit damage, but you’re opponent may also have more toughness than pvp.
I usually then swap to trident and go Illusionary Whaler(4)>Spinning Revenge(3)>dodge to get 3 illusions out. With Siren’s Call(1) from you and 2 clones and sharper image from whaler you can quickly build up 10 bleed to sustain damage. Then Illusion of Drowning(5)>F1 if you’re patient enough, or F2 instantly for fast effect.

Since Raid on Capricorn was removed, I don’t bother with underwater fights anymore – which is a shame because trident and spear are the two best mesmer weapons in my opinion.
But even so, there’s nothing set in stone – similar to using a GS or staff on land – 90% about positioning relative to the opponent(s).
Just knowing a few key combos – ie, vortex->feigned surge to proc chaos armour->feign back if necessary to confuse with position.
Or illusion of drowning->summon iwhaler->dodge (towards)->ineptitude-> dodge again->shatter->swap->vortex combo…
Using slipstream to trap opponents and corner them into shatters for example.
The only skill I find a bit of a loose end is spinning revenge – easier to dodge tbh, unless you don’t have deceptive evasion.
Anyway, there’s no clear cut formula for underwater – dodging in 4 directions and swim up/down are probably more important than any of the skills for dealing shatter damage.
I will say, I would nearly always open with trident #5 or #2 (preferably #5) into summoning iwhaler.
What up guys, been 2 months since I last updated a video and here is my latest guide:

I loved the video, what I was able to see anyway! I paused it and came back to it and it was removed :C
I’m guessing it’s because of the music.
I’ve posted in the thread before, I guess a little followup is in order.
I got the build, Hoelbrak runes, full zerker(though I’m thinking of getting some knights or soldiers trinkets). I have a lot of weapon sets.
Basically all the possible weapons you can use to play shatter. Two swords, staff, GS, torch, pistol, focus (giving me around 10 possible weapon combinations)
Energy + Air on Staff and Gs, Energy on sword and Air on focus, torch and pistol. I’m rarely using pistol and torch. Second sword has night as it’s mostly used for dungeons.
My favorite two sets at the moment are Staff + Sw/F followed by Staff + Gs.
I’m more comfortable with Staff + Sw/F atm, the ileap is very handy, playing without it is hard, though once I do master Staff + Gs, that will take over #1 for sure, it has crazy in combat mobility. I’ve been playing a lot of PvP lately(which I almost never do) and am often getting top player. I think WvW will be a lot easier considering I actually have some stats + food (can’t imagine the burst then) and area to move around/kite, in PvP there is very little area to kite.
Extremely fun compared to PU condi. Though I can’t beat PU condi yet (only fought my friend which is extremely good with it, confuses you extremely on his positioning, I’ve beaten him in shatter spec).
Thank you a lot for sparking an interest in shatter builds in me. You’ve made the game SO MUCH more fun for me, I was on the verge of quitting because I didn’t enjoy it anymore! I’d love some videos showing how to play Staff/Gs, it’s a challenging play style.
Have a wonderful rest of the day, massive thank you once again! Happy shattering!

Hmm… The video worked like 2 days ago… It doesn’t seem to work anymore.
Says the video violated some rules and was brought down.
What rotation do you use for Staff + Sword/Pistol?
If you’re using staff + sword pistol, your damage/burst set is your sword + pistol while your staff is more for control of the fight and survivability.
With sword + pistol a common rotation would be casting the iduelist into magic bullet (For the stun – ensuring the duelist will put in good damage as well as your ileap to land) dodge into ileap, blurred frenzy and as the immo is about to ware off – mind wrack.
