Welcome to the second episode of Mesmerized, our Mesmer only podcast!

This week our two hosts, Kylia Deprigen and Pyroatheist interview one of the most well known Mesmers in GW2, Osicat, the creator of the ShatterCat Mesmer Build.

We delve into the mind of Osicat, from what he enjoys about the mesmer, to his favorite and least favorite opponents, he breaks down his build and also goes into some of the technical elements of the Mesmer. And, as a true Mesmer he even has a turn at asking his hosts a question or two!

I understand that you like self-plugs, but could you please just make one thread and constantly use/update that? Learn from all the other stickied threads, they use one thread to convey MULTITUDES of ideas.

E.g. Osicat’s thread. It has 4+ builds on it, each fully fledged. You don’t see it getting bumped to the front page everyday (which is also against the rule) by the OP, because it was good enough that it didn’t need to.

If you’re just going to make a thread and throw it away, it’s not really a thread worth making… especially when it comes to live, updated things. Your thread should reflect your content. If your content was a one-time thing, your thread should be a one-time thing. If your content is going to have more… your thread should have move. If your content is dead… your thread should be dead.

And please, for the love of the Six, tell me you have youtube monetary disabled.

Since gw2 footage is used in the channels, I’m pretty sure that can’t be monetized, don’t quote me on that one though.

It can be used as long as it doesn’t get reported. Additionally, I was using Osicat’s as an example because it didn’t always used to be stickied, yet it was still updated when he added information instead of just making another thread.

1. Creating and bumping an individual podcast is fine, we have a guy who comes into the Necro forums and complains every time I create a thread. There is nothing wrong with it as it directs the players to the individual podcast since the central one simply contains links to the youtube versions and the entire podcast list. Your little outrage simply did the same thing that you wanted me to not do. A simply personal message to me would have solved more and allowed your point to have been made instead you bumped something you didn’t want bumped :P.

At the top of the page there is a sticky that say Tutorials and another one that says post your build, and yet people post secondary threads covering the same topic repeatedly. Have you gone onto each one of their threads to complain about them posting about something that’s already covered? :P

My point is that you complained about bumping a post and then bumped it yourself, there is no reason to post this if your point was to let me know I was doing the podcast a disservice a simply personal message would have accomplished this. I understand your point, and disagree with it.

2. Monetization on the youtube channel was brought up by either pyro or kylia a few days ago when I made a comment on it. I told them I would look into disabling it, but haven’t had the chance to read through the TS to find out how it applies to us. I do know that when I read the youtube and GW2 Terms it contained the words use with original content which I figured I fell under this meant that as long as I credited GW2 than I did not have to turn off the monetization it. I will double check on this and appreciate you bringing it up.

You took my little message for a hatespeech. Yes, I dislike having your constant threads up here, but you don’t have a stickied thread up at the top. I don’t go to everybodies guide thread to say that their thread isn’t there because it’s a pain in the neck and because those people don’t care (for the most part) about anything other than “lolmybuildopuseitplzwantkarma” even though they can’t get karma.

As for the message about bumping, that was directly resulting from the “bumping” post because it goes against the rules of the forums:

Do not spam. This includes bumping threads or making posts that lack content.

The monetization can be found in any of samski’s (a Mesmer)‘s youtube video’s descriptions.

The reason why I posted it here instead of using a PM is so you, and/or others, can refute and/or understand/learn from the post. Pyro, for example, learned about the monetization policy of Arenanet.

The current ruling on monetization of Youtube videos is (loosely worded and not directly quoted):
You may use monetization freely, but if you get reported, Arenanet will not back you up nor say you are allowed to do it.

Basically, you CAN do it until you get caught doing it.

Back to the first point: I don’t care if your thread is on the frontpage or not, I personally just don’t want 2+ Mesmerized threads on the frontpage, especially if you’re going to be bumping anyone of them. Hence the solution I listed in my first post of making one big thread, which would work for your point, anyways.

I did not take it for hatespeech (I personally hate this phrase as many people don’t really know what true hate speech is) I took it for outrage over a bumping you didn’t think needed to be done, and then added a few tongue in cheek similies to let you know that I wasn’t bothered by it. I see your point on this one, though it’s a finite one. The main reason I bumped and I should have been more specific on the bump is because Oscicat was referencing the podcast was coming up in the Questions thread.

This is what I perceived the rules to be. I thought it was a really poorly worded one, and when someone doth protest I simply toss a note to youtube and it gets taken off monetization or left on monetize depending on how they feel. Currently I only turn it off on the Dungeon runs and things that are not actually the podcast. If it’s an issue with most of our fans I will turn it off.

The Mesmerized Questions thread is now so unrelated to the actual podcast that it has no relation to it at all except our name and several people from the podcast answer things in it. It has turned into a Ask our host any question thread instead of here is the podcast.

My general rule of thumb is I post it and then updated it once on the week that it was posted. Once it is added to youtube I then add it to the Mesmerized: Mesmer Central which is really the only one I upkeep after the first week of a podcast.

I don’t see why creating a post for an individual podcast is an issue and then updating the big one at the end of the week. A gigantic thread listing every single audio only and youtube podcast would in the end serve the exact opposite point. A new player would take one look at it and freak out that there was so many different things, he would feel overwhelmed and not even check it out. An individual podcast about his favorite Mesmer such as Oscicat he may want to listen too and comment on therefore we have a central one that is maintained and a single post that is posted once the podcast is done.

I appreciate your point of you, and hopefully I have helped you understand the point as to why I do it this way. I will not keep this thread going after the next podcast goes up. As this one will hopefully be on youtube and therefore on the Mesmer Central thread.

On this I created a build who borrowed some of both your gameplays and pyros defensive setup with retailation and high survival. I also managed to keep The Shatter Cat Mist extremly strong mobility and high burst.

Are there any changes in traits/sigils/runes in shatter cat mist 2.0? Care to elaborate about it a little bit?
I’m really happy to see the change! Focus has great utility in my opinion.
