New Mesmer Changes
mesmer got buff directly and indirectly by nerfing other sustain abilities
condi mesmer still strong or even stronger
power mesemr little bit more dmg but more cc
support mesmer gone with the wind (no cleric so no toughness)
What about support with Knight Amulet?
Why did you change your thought process about it?

The changes to condi application on Pmage is more important than just the 20% increase because frequency increase. I noticed in several places they shortened condi duration in favor of more stacks, which has the benefit of us actually DOING more of the condi damage instead of it being WASTED when the enemy drops before the duration is up. The only time long durations on condi is possibly desired over more stacks is with champions and bosses (world, raid, fractal, etc), and even then I don’t see why you’d want duration over stacks (only a few things have reachable caps on stacks after they changed that back last year).
Yeah, but the point is that the skill is still garbage even if you get 100% effectiveness out of the attacks it uses.
Fair but as you said, less garbage. They’ve done the same thing on some other classes, which means they realize this is a general problem with condi, and are trying this out to try to fix the problem. That is cause for hope imo.
Well, one data point does not make a trend I’m afraid. If they continue to make incremental adjustments to the skill over the course of future balance patches, then we’ll have a trend to be pleased about.
Unfortunately, they’ve really hamstrung themselves with respect to how capable they can be with their balance patches. Balancing once every 4-6 months means 3 times a year at best…hardly a pace to do incremental adjustments at.
More than one data point. This change of less duration, more stacks was done in several places (looking at all changes not just in mesmer). So I do think this will make condi in non-boss fights more of a thing.
Also, they said every 2-3 months, so we should be getting patches more often not less often.
Less duration and more stacks hardly fixes the issues with pMage. It’s a nice change for condies in general in PvE, but it doesn’t actually help us.
It is a buff, but maybe just not enough of one. I’ll play around with it and see how I feel about it.
Insofar as balancing pace, unless they plan to decouple balance from seasons, they can’t do it every 2-3 months. They’ve committed to balancing once between seasons, locking them to 4 month periods at the absolute minimum.
Unless I missed something, they plan on having episodes out every 2-3 months, and doing balance patches like this with each one of those. I wish I could find where I read it, but Anet people definitely indicated that they would have the patches attached to the episodes that would be on a 2, maybe 3 month cycle, as opposed to the 3 month quarterly cycle they started after HoT dropped.

One GOOD buff to the iMage lower cd is, when traited, the condi cleanse also has been given a reduced CD. It’s a + to torch in general.

I think they removed the cleanse on projectile hit many months ago already. So torch trait only remove on summon.

My bad, I thought the iMage cd had been reduced too (knew about the projectile cleanse being nixed).

knight is more bunker . so less healing from shatter and from healing skill.
so less support and more point holder (accros the board)
i think the meta will shift to 1 condi, 2 dmg, 1 rez bunker, 1 sustain
ranger is the only viable support with heal, guard with bunker, thief, mesmer condi warrior condi or necro condi
I do love the buff to Prestige burn stacks – it finally feels slightly rewarding to hit someone with the flames, both for direct damage and burn application.

glad to hear it. Was wondering if this weapon would be useful for condi builds (yes I know pistol is probably still better dps, but torch has some other utility options).

Well I’ve always preferred Torch anyway, even when Shield came along.
But now the extra damage on Prestige (especially if using Viper gear) allows for little things like faking a burst – if they don’t dodge prestige burn then they still take some decent damage; if they do dodge then you can follow up with shatter.
This list of changes buffs Mesmer in every conceivable game type. How on earth are you disappointed?
I am, too.
Yes they’re buffs, but:
- Buffs aren’t always a good thing, though I like all of these. Buffs do not automatically imply “quality changes”.
- Speaking of which, this is so little. Where are the reworks to the unused skills? Where is portal icon? Underwater pass? Weapon rebalance in general. Trait pass?
And yes I know, this is “just one patch”. But with how rare they come, I’d expect each and every one of them to basically re-do the class, because right now it feels that ANet is still in the “blindly trying things” phase of MMO class balance, where they haven’t actually found the concepts for them yet. Though at the same time, they balance as if they’re a 5y running and already established MOBA with fully specialized characters and done overall balance, just need to do some minor number tweaking.
I think that’s a good TL’DR: This is number tweaking. I expected reworks and re-implementation, given the current state of classes. Not just Mesmers.
Insofar as balancing pace, unless they plan to decouple balance from seasons, they can’t do it every 2-3 months. They’ve committed to balancing once between seasons, locking them to 4 month periods at the absolute minimum.
Then they ought to axe the seasons.
Is it really worth making inferior balance setups just because of a handful of people playing a minority game mode in a (this is the important part) game which has balance issues this large left in it?
Mesmers don’t even feel “mesmery”. There’s no trickery, no fooling someone. Thieves don’t feel thief-y either, with short bursty stealth and aggressive gameplay instead of careful setup and swift execution, scheming and luring. And so on.
I mean yes, I get it, it’d mess with sPvP seasons. If sPvP season are a big problem right now, the devs have a much better understanding of their class setup than I do.
And I get called a whiteknight because I “defend ANet too much”. But fact is, the balance is so messed up right now that numerical changes are a waste of time. In a way. So many things need to get brought back to the drawing board, entire classes, trait lines, specializations, weapon setups, skills, once that is done any current number balance is entirely meaningless.
Yet ever since release they’re too afraid to do that. One of the things which hint me at management issues as the core of their snails-pace dev speed btw, because this smells of managers not wanting anyone to “mess with it”.
And I am aware this won’t change. Doesn’t mean each new “balance patch” won’t disappoint me anew by effectively messing only with the second digit past the decimal mark. Instead of anything in front of it.

Actually, mesmer rez bunker would be better than guard bunker because they bring more utilities to the group.
The Mez heals well, gravity well and null field are the utilities all group need to make it done.
I tried bunker guard and without heals its bad, without toughness it can’t eat the cleave of 2 bad players. The one go I did with your old build with knight, I was not able to sustain cleave while rezzing.
Scrapper double rez (with gyro) is faster than bunker guard. But putting medic gyro (with cleric heals) with cast time can’t help us anymore to be the bad kitten rezzer I was in season 3 unranked top games.
For the bunker rezzer, the spot is still open and Mesmer, Scrapper, Guard and Druid (pet rez) seems the best options. But… druid mender bunker 1v3 on points don’t use pet rez and he is better bruiser than Scrapper now.
Means, guard and scrapper are still open to changed for optimal rezzes…. but since I tried all scrapper build to max rezzes and got nerfed on my support gyro build. I am not sure it’s better than mesmer rez with wells sustain (removal of condition while you rez is super important).
Since you are the best Knight Mesmer around, I would really like to get your feedback about a couple of your games on it.

I agree, the balancing they are doing feels like way too little and like they still don’t know where they want to take each class. Hell they basically admitted to that with engineers……
But I think that balancing within seasons would be healthy for the game. For one thing, it would help ANet remove cheese builds that are allowing players to climb past where they should be in the leagues. For another, it helps separate the best players from the average player because it would force everyone to adapt their playstyle as classes are continuously balanced. It would give ANet much more flexibility in bringing in more viable builds for every class as they could get immediate feedback on how classes are doing instead of insisting on waiting 2-3 or more months.
But most importantly. PvP is only one part of the game, and leagues are just a small part of PvP. Changing your balance schedule around leagues is literally changing your balance schedule to fit around a tiny portion of players in this game. What about PvE and WvW players? We have to suffer through crippled classes and playstyles because Anet doesn’t want to mess with leagues. Why are we ignored like that?
Pyro has the type of shade that is so icy and condescending. I miss it. I’m back from hiatus guys after this awesome update! I’m a huge lore buff, so this new living world season 3 update has me supremely excited. I also like the new PvP map… anyway.
I’m loving the buffs to Mesmer. Overall ,we weren’t nerfed, so I’m very happy. I really liked the phantasm/torch buffs. I don’t use GS often at all, but reversing the nerf on Mirror Blade is significant.
There’s other remarks I could make, but I’ll just fade into the background and get back into the game.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
I came back for a bit because of the buffs and LW and got immediately turned off by AoE damage circles everywhere, knockdown spam, and swarming trash mobs. It’s like they design content specifically to give Mesmers a hard time.
