When going to the OP to watch the latest video, I skimmed back over the text real quick and noticed that you mentioned that you sometimes play a Mantra build. I was curious if you had any footage playing any of your Mantra builds.

It seems to be one of the much less commonly used types of builds so I’m always curious for chances to see good players using them.

I don’t have any video of mantra unfortunately and I have not played in the build for some time. What I would do is check out Fay’s video’s and setup. She also has a really nice website that runs down tactics and play-style while in a mantra build.

Thanks. Yeah, she has been the biggest source of Mantra information for me as I’m not a big fan of “glass cannon” and like to leverage the plethora of utilities we have at hand as Mesmers.

If you ever get the inkling (or drink enough :-p) to try out mantras again, please record it.

On another note, have you ever played around with any of the on-clone-death traits? I bounce between traiting for them from time to time as I, too, constantly swap out traits and gear to try new things.

I’m curious how this would work with Bezerker on the neck/rings/trinkets & weapons and knights full armour. I like the idea of a tanky mesmer, but don’t want to give up all of my cannon.

all those videos show one thing: a player who gets more and more in sync with his ever evolving build.
watching one vid is fun but watching them all is awesome.

I noticed in your most recent videos that you actually slow down a lot of the action. I never really thought of doing that, but it makes a whole lot of sense, especially since mesmer is so absurdly fast paced at times.

…I also noticed that people play with screen shake on. Holy kitten that makes me nauseous. Have you ever tried turning it off? I think I turned it off a while ago when some guardians were trolling at the trading post or something.

Watching your second most recent video, I’m a little confused. Based on reading your original post, you and I use a very similar build in most respects (traits, armor, everything). I’m wondering where you are getting all the hit points from…with the same build you have in the first post (high toughness, etc) I end up with a little under 16k hit points… you are showing over 20k in the video.

Also, I believe we’ve met on the field a few times lately. I think I’m improving…I actually survived the last few encounters /laugh. Didn’t get you, of course…Give me a few more weeks and then watch out.

@Fozzik The HP boost is probably from Power of the Mists. I run a similar setup and find that my HP fluctuates between 16-18.5k, depending on how my server is doing in WvW.

Now you’re using the wolfborn staff as well, nice =D
Weirdly enough I got mine during a fractals run some months ago haha, an exotic with knight’s stats but the name is just “Staff”, just recently I found out the skin could be bought by karma too.

Are you sure you are using Dueling III (Retaliatory Shield) in your torch build? Seems that is a copy/paste error from the Sword build. I’m guessing you are using I or IV for Torch.

1. Can you tell me your thoughts about the Staff and sword/sword build? I feel like the staff is good but the cds are huge, even with the trait.

Staff cds are pretty short, especially with the trait o.o

Yea, confusion is a sick beast in WvW. Just imagine what’d happen if we had a non-fail IMage. Especially if that biz about “beam” attacks hitting everything in a line between
you and the target happens. (I honestly think they’ll do it, then retract the buff in a month. By then, they’ll see what GS or Scepter users can pull off with that setup.)

Other than Scepter, what armour, runes, sigils, traits, etc. did you change when switching to Scepter?

Yeah, scepter/torch is sick even w/o CD gear. I’ve been running it for a while paired with sw/sw, and it’s the best dueling setup I’ve found. Return damage blocks on both sets coupled with other defenses that also hit back (BF and Prestige) means I always have the right defense (and some hurt in return) when I need it no matter which set is up.

Last night I was jumped by a thief while chasing down a necro, and it saved my kitten He hates me now, but the necro got away.

You’re the reason people turn tail when they see Mesmers – thanks for that.

Quick question: do you base your run choices in part on cost so you can switch out cheaply? I was wondering if investing in Divinities would be helpful – I run the Sw/Torch – Staff build in your first post.

I always use the master tuning crystals for the condition build, and always use lemon grass poultry soup for the -40% condition duration on myself, regardless of the build.

Seven, on runes, if one is set in the gear they’ll be running, do you suggest using Divinity runes as you can afford them? Are the Centaur benefits to swiftness superior to the spread of stats from Divinity?

I usually like utility over raw stats, but Divinity runes definitely have their place. If you can afford them I say have at it.

I don’t know that I’ve ever responded to any forum posts on any game, however…your videos/game play/tactics/instinctive play style is…sickeningly good! I started with a mesmer, spvp/pve mostly and got bored, found and fell in love with a guardian for WvW, which has become my main until today…

I am recommitting myself to my lil lvl 63 asuran mesmer and cannot wait to try out some of the builds/options you’ve so artfully demonstrated. I’m not sure where to begin as they all look so different/tweaked for different situations. But, what sort of a game would it be if we didn’t play around

Just trying to maintain roughly 50% crit chance.

That sword-torch staff build rocks, I took on an ele alone, a cond ranger alone, another mesmer alone, and i almost beat an ele and necro together, tho I just needed more skill with the build.
My advice: You need some kind of condition removal, I unequipped decoy for Null Field, where I can also use leap finishers in to gain Chaos Armor.
Also, you don’t need ascended trinkets, go the temple of balthazar merchant see what hes selling at the bottum. I want all knights gear, and put crest of the soldier in only my trinkets, including my back armor.
I used runes of earth on my armor for more defense and toughness, and I just need to have a focus in my inventory to equip for swiftness and then put the torch back on.

Otherwise, fantastic build, really good for kiting and stacking up confusion

Yeah it sticks out. :P It’s really nice to be back on the field with you guys from XOXO, great group and really talented players. It’s a privileged to consider you all friends (even though we are enemy’s). Andromeda took me under his wing (so to speak) back in the ENVY days. He put some knots on my head and then taught me how to develop my mesmer. We all had a teacher, right?
