It take a Mesmer longer to put up 3 staff clones than it take a Thief to do 100K damage.

I actually wouldn’t mind a confusion nerf that much if there were other viable condition builds or if there were any accompanying buffs which would also be useful in PvE. They’re breaking confusion instead of fixing it, in general they won’t fix conditions at all as it seems, so screw GW2.

Final Fantasy 14 ARR comes out near August I think. Going to be SO much better this time around with what they have released and what I have played in the betas. That’s why I am not up in flames over this cause I am just biding my time anyway. ^^

I’ve spent months getting my full ascended gear for my condition build. Now I’m getting nerfed? I won’t bother wasting months to build up ascended gear just to get nerfed again by whiners! Good enough reason to quit alltogether.

I can show you a video how an invader can just stand there or run away from me without needing to do anything because condition alone is sux when the invader doesn’t do anything. A confusion nerf and retaliation nerf is massive nerf for my thief counter build.

Not to mention its gonna take me too long to kill 1 NPC sentry now that its just not worth bothering with.

@selan I’m not saying you should spec into condi, play whatever you enjoy the most. Just because shatter mesmers are really good, doesn’t make condition mesmers suck compared to other profession’s condi specs. It’s no news that direct damage is most of the times more reliable than condi damage. That goes for all professions.
@Dawdler I doubt that. I understand you’re upset about the nerf, but atleast try to post something that makes sense.
@Hexxen Those are pretty much the skills that we use to make clones. Decoy clone also casts winds of chaos, I believe. Can you list the clones that don’t cast winds of chaos that you spawn with staff?

On a sidenote I think Cry of Frustration could use a duration buff to compensate the pretty harsh -50% damage cut.
At base a full CoF shatter does 3 stacks of confusion with 3s duration, 30s cooldown.
Prybar does 5 stacks of confusion with 5s duration, 15s cooldown.

The glamour build is still viable in WvW. But it is now converted into an exclusively defensive/supportive build. You can still blind several people. You can still remove boons and conditions.

A build with reduced RT for glamour skills and prolonged duration for them is still very helpful in WvW.

If they really want to increase build diversity, they just have to give condi mesmers something in exchange. We need at least an increase of 100% on our confusion duration or a massive increase in other damaging conditions.

But well, just about every other promise they have given to their costumers has shown to be a lie up until now, so…keep on nerfing until every profession got like 1 competitive build left.

Yeah, a warrior is getting a grandmaster trait that does an extra 3% for each boon on a character.

Anything I post is just the opinion of a very vocal minority of 1.

This, in addition with either removing Vulnerability on WoC or replacing it with another condition. Even if they replace it with Confusion it would be nice, although I’d personally prefer a short duration Poison.

Also make Illusionary Elasticity apply to iMage. Would at least somewhat make up for the fact that it’s pretty much useless as is and is about to get nerfed pretty hard.

Mesmer’s alternate conditions are so medicore building around them is a huge mistake, especially considering I can use zerker and literally one shot half the wvw players out there.

Confusion was the only real condition a mesmer has as far as build concerns go.

I would love to see confusion removed from Cry of Frustration now and make it Bleeds or poison. Poison would be amazing as a heal debuff which mesmer really lack.

How about each clone applies 2seconds of poison so you could get a 8 second stack.

I have seen a lot of rage about this topic, I am not here to whine or rage I simply want to put this into perspective for people and hopefully the devs.

Confusion as a mechanic before this patch was an extremely good skill, I will not argue that it was extremely powerful but look at where it excelled. This build was viable for WvW and really as a subcategory to that only in huge group fights (1v1 I would get destroyed from focus fire), other than that and in all other forms of the game its useless. Look at sPvP, what mesmer still runs a confusion build in sPvP? Hardly any, you will never see a confusion mesmer in FOTM or dungeons as well because it simply is sub par to power builds. Also lets remember that condition Mesmers have ONE condition they can stack regularly and that is confusion, so not only are you nerfing a mechanic but your also taking away an entire build idea from a class (condition mesmers will cease to be viable in any form of the game). Also as many people have stated you have all but destroyed the scepter, and yes I say destroyed because the only reason people really run with the scepter is for confusing images and clone generation (clone generation will still be viable but honestly there are much better ways to run clone factory). Also all of our traits that give multiple ways to stack confusion will now be worthless, all the glamour confusion traits are worthless, blind also gives confusion worthless, shatters inflict confusion (which we dont’ even have a choice to choose) is now worthless.

So I ask you was it really that OP, to take away so much from a class because one mechanic which was only viable in one form of the game and even at that point only viable in a specific circumstance? I’m not gonna be sarcastic or mean about this but I really think this should have been thought out more, sure you can nerf it, but 50% seems drastic and the added fact that so many other aspects of the class rely on confusion to be viable and now they won’t be and there is no other changes happening with said aspects really just leaves me to believe your trying to appease whiners and QQers. 25% I could have lived with but 50% is halving the damage and with all the added points your essentially taking a third of the viable builds for this class (Condition, Power, and Mantra builds being the three basic types of builds) extremely weak.

I say all of this definitively because we have already seen the impact of the same nerf in sPvP. One mechanic is now completely sub par in ever aspect of the game, that just seems pointless to me. After this patch I want a dev to play a confusion mesmer and just see how laughable its going to become.

I would have argued this point if it was a 30% nerf, but 50% and I have to agree with you. I have a hard time believing that 50% is justified. I have a hard time believing a 25% was ever tested.

how do we get on the ptr for this. who is testing these changes before they go live. is it like wow where players can test and produce a ton of info on how the changes function and then they are tweaked through out the ptr and fine tuned to get the changes correct before they go live.. or is this just a kangaroo court that puts on a blind fold and swings the nerf bat.

yup and we got like 3 days to get a whole new build and new gear…and ascended gear is lost too.i would love to have a test server so we can help the devs to make decisions. I know i know im very upset atm and people are like cmon u are overrreacting and maybe there will be a solution, but I’ve played a condition mesmer since starting this class (1700 hours playtime and a bunch of different builds) it feels like all my hard work will be destroyed in a single hit.
I will try to use cond.build untill i have enough gold to get a whole new build but seeing how weak it is in spvp i am very discouraged. Lets hope there will be some kind of solution.

Is this true that our illusions will have more health? I watched the video and the pet health talk was in reference to Rangers.

Are you sure they meant all pets across the game? They specifically mentioned Ranger pets and Guardian spirit weapons. I don’t remember them saying anything about mesmer illusions.

I’m not arguing, I’m just making sure that this is factual. If it is true this will make us less reliant on dodge clone.

Also mentioned, but not discussed here, is that they are discussing at least if it is not implemented, shortening the duration of all retaliation buffs. They stated clearly they don’t want to see any more perma retaliation builds. So on top of taking a 1/3 of the damage away, we might also lose duration as well. I think Pyro’s Immortal build will be hit hard if they do this. That eliminates yet another build. All I see them doing is taking away more and more builds and not just from us but from everyone. Why don’t they just give everyone carbon copy characters with the same skill and see who has the best skill.

Removing THE condition kinda does :/ What else does a mesmer have thats as good as confusion? Warriors have OP dmg, thiefs have (almost) endless stealth, eles have many ways to go invulnerable, guardians are just not fair in general and so on… mesmers do not have effective aoe skills, dont have any other cond dmg (in a zerg), cant even stack stealth. And let alone the lack of cond removal skills.

Sorry I wasn’t clear. When I said TRUE Winds of Chaos I meant that the clones done get the additional bounce from the Illusions Master Trait.

I got 6×80 profession. Mesmer has the most hours, but for instance the lack of aoe, or trusthworthy condition damage (good players avoid confusion damage altogether), always pushed me away. This change, sorry bye bye mesmer. Not that the mesmer stinks. The nerf stinks, and the one responsible for it.

Legendary weapons can be hidden now!
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.

Sickening is the right word. A good MMO survives the test of time by treating it’s loyal, long term players with care and respect. Making them feel wanted and supported. If a nerf has to happen, they do it in increments, with plenty of warning, and with restraint. If Anet kitten es off the players that have been with them the longest in favor of new, fair weather players this game won’t be around long.

What a horrible decision. Confusion was basically the only condition mesmers had. The gimicks on staff are pretty much worthless for sustained condition damage. Half the time it applies vulnerability… great my staff now does 11.1 dmg instead of 11….

Confusion was already the weakest condition in the game, I can’t possibly see how they could justify this. Having a mesmer I used to laugh in the face of condition mesmers on my thief. Oh you just spent every skill you had putting 12 stacks of confusion on me for 10 seconds. I’ll just stand here and laugh at you for 10 seconds until they drop off and you are screwed.

  • Confusion reduced to PvP level in WvW (50%?) (Link covering Con/Ret)

  • Signet improvements – Now add 20 base, + 2 per level (Link covering Signets)

Too Disappointed to write much more. . . . Except – THANKYOU to all the all new players for making something, that has taken some people 8 months to achieve, (pretty much worthless) after may 1st. Thankyou to Devs for listening to new players more than the seasoned vets- way to go to keep your player base. As we speak i am downloading my old mmo client and eagererly looking forward to the 2013 releases.
. . .AND yes i know its only a game, but when something is nerfed at 3 days notice and it affects builds and thus equipment that has taken TIME to acquire, its sickening.

Is this true that our illusions will have more health? I watched the video and the pet health talk was in reference to Rangers.

Are you sure they meant all pets across the game? They specifically mentioned Ranger pets and Guardian spirit weapons. I don’t remember them saying anything about mesmer illusions.

I’m not arguing, I’m just making sure that this is factual. If it is true this will make us less reliant on dodge clone.

I’m pretty certain they referenced it to Ranger pets only as it was mentioned under the ranger section. So I didn’t include it on the list. We will see in a couple of days anyway if it is the case but I really didn’t get the impression it was a game wide thing.

Anyone who says Mesmer’s have any real cond’s besides confusion simply is new to the class.

Mesmer’s alternate conditions are so medicore building around them is a huge mistake, especially considering I can use zerker and literally one shot half the wvw players out there.

Confusion was the only real condition a mesmer has as far as build concerns go.

I would love to see confusion removed from Cry of Frustration now and make it Bleeds or poison. Poison would be amazing as a heal debuff which mesmer really lack.

How about each clone applies 2seconds of poison so you could get a 8 second stack.

They could also give a huge buff to confusion duration and remove the 10s cap now as an easy solution which would also help in PvE, considering there are mobs that attack extremely slow (risen brutes for example). If they simply nerf confusion damage by 50% without any compensation I’m sitting on rabid equipment worth 500k karma and lots of gold that can go to the trashcan considering there will be absolutely no use for it any more.

(PS, I know confusion won’t be nerfed in PvE, but its duration should be buffed there - if this is imbalanced for enemies attacking quickly, apply DR or make stacks disappear per attack or whatever, there’s a multitude of solutions to this.)

Well halve damage still is up to ~3.5k damage on my mesmer.
I cannot find an argument which justified my 7k damage ticks on players trying to dodge something. Yes it was fun, but nowhere near balanced.

There is stuff which seems to trigger confusion without you being able to do something against it. I have no idea how many thief died because their auto procc of Smoke Bomb at 25% triggered confusion, which instantly killed them. There is a good amount of these traits, which just autouse a skill when certain conditions are met.

Thanks to my pizza in WvW I can maintain more confusion stacks in WvW then in sPvP. I also have way higher condi damage then in sPvP, which squeezes out more damage per confusion stack.

So will it hurt my build? Yes.
Will I still play glamour confusion in WvW? Yes.
Will it still be viable, even with half damage? It probably will.

7k… how bad are the players that you’re fighting? I’ve had 15+ stacks of confusion on me in WvW before… and it did… 0 damage. None, zip zilch nada. Why?… because of condition cleansing. After they all spammed every confusion skill they had onto our team we simply removed it (not like they had many other conditions or much dps pressure on our team). One person was downed and easily revived. One.

You should get your kitten handed to you the VAST majority of the time just stacking all your confusions at once.

I would still play my mesmer.
I am honest here and say, DE is too strong. No matter how much ANet would buff the other master traits of duelling, there will be no other choice then DE for 20 in duelling.

Yesterday I just thought about, what buffs would I do, in order to make them a valid choice over DE in that slot. Whatever came into my mind was screaming OP at me. Like 3~4 seconds of distortion on signet use. 2s would be doubling it, and yet I wouldn’t take it over DE.

So yeah, DE needs a nerf at some point.

The confusion nerf is a poor choice. It makes confusion (and glamour builds) pretty much completely useless in wvw now, since confusion does effectively no damage. That being said, mesmers are far from broken…removing 1 condition doesn’t destroy a class.

I really think you dont have a single clue of what you are saying.

1st: you dont make decisions that could afect alot of viable builds in a given class, when the game is up and running for 8 months now. What kind of decision is that? A “oh sorry we just woke up and decided to change some stuff” perspective for sure.

2nd: “removing 1 condition doesnt destroy a class” well, do you know that mesmer was built around confusion cond, and for the most trait lines ull see many aligned with that particular condition. So we are not talkig about nerfing only the “confusion” here. We are talking about delivering a nerf to many traits the mesmer has, not only the confusion damage, so you completely missed the point.

They could just have excluded on dodge traits from triggering confusion instead of mindlessly nerfing it to the ground. Seems they didn’t think a second about why PvP is very different from WvW, just like WvW is different from PvE. They also didn’t bother to think about what the real problem with confusion was, which is uncapped area deniaI, although we have to wait for the patch to confirm this. If they don’t generally change how confusion / glamour traits work, they don’t even fix the core problem and it still sucks in PvE.
Anyway, glamour bombing will still be sufficient for loot tagging in WvW. Which also is a problem, stupid game and reward mechanics encouraging stupid gameplay.

Common guys lets be fair. It’s still Beta 3.0 full release 2014 3rd quarter. We’re gonna have some dumb and sometimes buggy patches, while arena net figures out what the front end is vs the back end and out to get the front out of the back.

Anything OP will be nerfed, and anything UP will be buffed, and anything balanced will be nerfed for noobs.

So common guys relax~ not their fault they released an incomplete PvP game. It’s ours for wanting it.

But it’s ok, all that money going into the gem store will help production time and quality even though we’ll never see weekly patches.

What would be interesting would be if confusion would be put back onto the scepter auto, and that’s the reason they’re halving the damage.

It would nerf engi discharge builds and buff the hell out of scepter.

It still doesn’t give mesmers a fantastic option for wvw, though.

Done playing the game. Tired of lazy companies nerfing classes instead of taking time to balance. Anet’s policy of using a lawnmower when instead should be using a scalpel is just lazy an driving so many people away. Including my friends, and now me.
