Bored in a hotel room with internet that isn’t good enough to play GW2, so I’m toying with builds for when I get my mesmer to 80.

In this build you would be weapon swapping a lot. It’s intended to be a balance of DPS, support and survival for both you and your phantasms in PVE, dungeons, and hopefully fractals.

If it sucks, any links to PVE/dungeon/fractal phantasm builds with staff as the main weapon would be much appreciated!

Yep, that build will work just fine, and is very close to some of the phantasm builds several of us run. Check out the link in my sig for some tactical advise for certain situations. The PVE variant is very similar to yours, and I offer tips to maximize some of the weapon strategies.

EDIT: Just a note, Phantasmal Fury will get you more DPS than blade training, but reduces your survival. Keep things like this in mind; don’t be afraid to change your major traits and weapon choices around to fit the situation.

Yeah, that build is very very similar to my pve phantasm build: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Guide-PvE-Supporting-Phantasm-Build

One thing to note about a build like this is weapon swapping. In my build, I have on me 2 swords, a focus, a greatsword, a staff, and a pistol. I use them all in different situations. Always remember that your current weaponset might not be the best one for the situation, so change it up. If you’re in the jade maw fractal, pistol is horrible, and staff is horrible, so take greatsword and sword/focus. On the final boss of the ascalonian fractal, greatsword hurts from retaliation damage, so go for staff. Constantly modifying your build to optimize it for every situation you come across is what makes a phantasm build like this so awesome for pve.
