scepter still aviliable ?!
You can use scepeter. It provides a block on low CD, attack speed increase when traited, and has loads of access to torment and confusion. But it is single target which is its biggest drawback. And the block only blocks a single attack, as opposed to BF which evades all attacks during the timeframe. So for a competitive setting, sword mainhand just provides more utility.
I personally bring my scepter into fractals because usually standing near the boss would get me killed from social awkwardness. It has a strong low cooldown attack on 3 and I always have 3 illusions up for a quick CS quickness rotation without having to think about it and if I am using the signet heal, I don’t usually have to use it because of the passive illusion healing. If you are in a good group with spatial awareness, of course sword is going to be the better option. In raids, it’s sword…it’s the reason you can tank.
I like to shield 5/ scepter 3 for some piercing power/cc burst. But ya after that it’s just auto-attacking which isn’t horrible because free clones but ya it’s not a DPS weapon set or anything.
I’m a huge fan of scepter, but pretty much all I do is WvW roaming. In that game mode, I typically have 1v1, 1v2, and 1v3 fights. I actually use a build that is always scepter in mainhand. I think shield and torch are fantastic offhand weapons, so that means either scepter/sword, sword/sword or scepter/scepter.
Scepter has clone production on auto-attack (and it produces torment if you have three illusions), clone production on block (and 5 stacks of torment) and confusing images pierces, so you it’s a semi-aoe weapon.
If you’re interested in scepter, I think the best idea is to give it a try. If you can do a build with the Malicious Sorcery trait, I highly encourage trying it because it makes the scepter (particularly confusing images) feel much smoother.
I was goofing around making a video of opening bursts last night. This isn’t particularly great scepter play, but it gives you an idea how it an work in WvW. https://youtu.be/d_TePbucMJs
