Axe, why all the hate?
Axe isn’t bad, it’s just situational and not as universally useful as some of the other options. Even Staff I wouldn’t recommend on a Power build simply because it’s so heavily Condi-based. Not to mention you have to Trait for it to even make it worthwhile (in my book), which puts it in the same boat as Axe for me.
Well i would recommand staff in every pvp build, power or condi. Yeah the damage isnt good but you dont take it for the damage. Also traiting isnt much of a problem unlike axe because the other major adapts in soulreaping arent good.
With all its flaws, there is a reason why staff is a stable in most if not all meta builds.
The only reasoning I’ve ever seen with having Staff in a Power build is because you can make the Marks ‘unblockable’, which is well and good though you’re stuck with stupidly long CDs at that point for a small burst. For the record, not everyone plays PvP and not everything is about PvP either, in fact ArenaNet has made it clear that PvE is their primary focus. Staff with forever remain a Condi-weapon in my book, perfectly paired with Scepter/Dagger. ‘Meta’ doesn’t mean ‘only’, and it doesn’t mean anything not ‘meta’ is bad/trash. I really hate ‘metas’, ruins the entire point of originality and creativity in MMOs; turns everyone into copies of one another but that’s just my personal input.
Well i said in pvp. In pve staff is obviously crap not even condi builds take it. They use scepter with wh and offhand dagger.
And yeah staff is good in pvp even without the trait but considering the fact that sr is a good traitline i dont see a reason not to take the trait anyway.
Also no Anet never said pve is thier focus. Heck we even have people like zenith that think Anet soli balances around pvp (which for the record i dont believe to be true).

Well I don’t PvP because my way of enjoying the game is in PvE where I have the freedom to do whatever without having to worry about ‘winning’ or ‘losing’. I don’t run SR, I run Spite and BM simply because I’m a huge fan of lifestealing, and I only use Shroud for the hard CCs and quick burst anyways. I don’t camp it or use it as a shield. ANET, to me, looks like they focus more on PvE simply because of the Living World episodes they crank out and the fact that they seem to balance around Raids/Dungeons/Whatever while in PvP they just have to make minor tweaks. That’s just how it looks to me, at least. I’m not a Dev so obviously I can’t say “DER WE ONLY CARE ABOUT PVE”, I can only say how it appears.
If I was forced to buff anything on axe I would make the spinning axe from ghastly claws cleave upto 3 targets.
If I was forced to buff aa (because auto attacking 12 stacks of debuff that makes target take +12% condi/dmg is bad…) I’d take it from wiki stated 1.04sec/attack to 1sec/attack increasing its base potential to stack 14 vulnerability.
At max I would ever do to axe AA is improve its speed to 1attack/sec and improve its coefficient from .88 to 1. But at this point you are throwing out near unavoidable dmg that hurts. People have been crying about druid staff aa, that does pathetic dmg, because it’s near unavoidable attrition.
Removing vulnerability for life force isn’t a solution (to a non-existent problem), it’s a “carry me, I’m an auto attack hero”.

making axe 2 aoe would be kinda good but imo necro already has plenty of aoe.
the vuln on aa isn’t bad its just that in most cases having more lf is better.
not sure what you are trying to say with that last bit but most of necros damage has always been tied to aa’s. removing the vuln for lf isn’t going to change that lol, in most scenarios it will make the aa not completely useless. tbh I never really use it unless I don’t have anything else available because its like painting a huge target on my chest. all of my rotations revolve around avoiding the aa as much as possible.

You wont utilize axe aa because it doesn’t have lifeforce generation but claim necro dmg has always been tied to aa in general. Then say that removing an easy +10% dmg debuff on opponent isn’t going to change anything. Not to mention +20% crit chance from 10 stacks of vulnerability using decimate defenses.
Just cannot argue with this line of logic,
so here,
pair axe with focus or warhorn,
life force generation problems solved…

No they dont balance soli around pve. Just look at the patch notes, alot of changes were made only because of pvp (and some because pve but not my point). For example, the old dhuumfire was perfectly fine in pve (probably even underpowered because at that time condi was bad in pve in general) and op for pvp.
You shouldnt make the mistake in thinking woahh the make alot of pve content so they care more about pve then pvp. The thing about pvp is it doesnt need much content. What it needs is a good gamemode, atleast one good map and good balance and with that pvp will be fine. And maybe a good matching system is also needed.

Considering the next expansion should be coming out anytime now, it kind of makes sense why they would hold off on PvE for these recent patches. Does it really matter who’s right or wrong in all of this? Nope, really doesn’t do anything but inflate the ’victor’s’ ego and like I said I was just stating how it appeared to me. Appearances = opinion = not fact, at least in my case. So can we return to the topic at hand instead of trying to debate something that’s better reserved for its own thread? This thread is about Axe, not balancing. Personally they could completely remove PvP and I’ll remain as happy as always, simply because I’m not a PvP player and could care less about that side of the game. Nothing against PvPers, just saying it’s not my preference and doesn’t effect me one way or another so this whole ‘debate’ is moot.
snipples
well the meta is meta for a reason. if you like aa’ing for vuln then I wont argue with that. its a nice synergy but ultimately its not as good as others. focus and warhorn are not nearly reliable as an aa that builds lf.

Ya axe/warhorn totally not meta,

ok… now look at the traits. people don’t take axe for unholy fervor and decimate defenses. most of the people that play the meta builds would rather have lf on aa.

maybe because focus 5 is a really good boon strip and they are using death perception from soul reaping line so don’t need moar crit chance? smh….
