I started a necro to try them out and see why they were so bad and absolutely fell in love.

Yes they are sub par to most other classes but I enjoy playing with a handicap and I have a feeling they are going to get some huge buffs soon enough.

I tried a bunch of builds when I first started out and finally landed on this:

A hybrid Condi/Bunker build designed around the fact that you will probably be focused by thieves and other melee a LOT. Has a lot of control and condition damage to apply steady backloaded pressure. Both weapons are ranged for optimal positioning (Dagger main hand is very attractive until you realize you have to be in melee range where all the AOE is happening) you want to get as much pressure out there before you get swapped to.

I’ve found this build to be extremely effective at combatting the innate weakness of the necro while not simply being a punching bag.

Zombify does a great overview of this spec here: http://youtu.be/NWhTyimBbTQ

Khadorian, Necromancers are infact weak in comparison to the capabilities of other classes in PvP.

This is not even close to a fact. If you are referencing dueling capabilities than yes, but in tournament games the Necromancer is ridiculously powerful. Granted the Elementalist and Engineer are the top notch in terms of condition damage and control, but the Necro is the king of team pvp. We own Guardians, and can handle any bunker ele out there.

The thought that we are weak is shortsighted and based on what team experience exactly? What high end tournament players have you talked to? What is yoru current ranking that gives you the ability to make that judgement?

I can guarantee you that based on talking to the top 3-4 Necromancers on both sides of the pond, and some of the top tournament players regardless of profession that the Necromancer is borderline OP in a team fight. They are always found, targeted, and attempted to be controlled because a good one will trainwreck any plans you might have.

Their biggest and only weakness is a lack of mobility either to chase, move to a new point, or simply escape. Their strengths are enough where they every top player keeps a Necro alt to swap to depending on team makeup.

ya it can be a really difficult start, it takes a good group of players to help you out a lot of the time, PEELS!! :P Build wise I really encourage people to ask some of the top pvp necromancers for builds or opinions. We are usually pretty friendly and will respond quickly (unless we are in a tournament). If anyone has any questions about condition builds in tpvp feel free to pm me in game

This is the truth of the matter, and one of the reasons I need to get Gibbly on the Necromancer Podcast.

Positioning and teamwork is essential to play as a Necromancer in tournaments. We are like the warrior except with range and better control.

I’d use greater marks on my necro, but I hate the ugly little things that spawn going into that line. So unfortunately have to man up to the small marks but due to high cd it’s more of drop marks really quick into dagger offense.

To me condition necros don’t feel underpowered at all. The trick with condition necros is to alter your traits/gear based on the comp you are facing. There is no one uber condition necro spec, there are so many variations.

Power Necros to me feel a bit niche, where they can shine in particular maps/scenarios and be sub-par in others. It’s the long cooldowns that hold it back the most, IMO.

I’ve never seriously given minion specs a try in tPvP, but playing around in hot join with them they don’t seem terrible in smallish engagements. If they made the Flesh Wurm teleport a longer range (enough to go from mid point to back point), they may be a viable back node defender. I have however taken a liking to Flesh Golem on my condition necro spec. It seems to survive a lot better after the last patch, and it amuses me to no end when I manage to line up their charge vs someone against a wall/ledge and it insta-gibs them

Nobody is saing that necro is very much underpower’d.
With Condition Necro is pretty much easy to survive with right posistioning,
but its a lot harder to be max effective with if.
Still Necro is Alpha state, it has many unfinished thing. For example DS#2 is hase some issues with A* PathFinding.

//—————————————————————————————————————————
@Skyro : Flesh Worm is can be good help in tpvp to get back on high grounds, but it requering right possisioning again and it is mostly used in condition of hybirte build

//—————————————————————————————————————————
@ArcTheFallen: as i know the small minion from is fix’d [at least i didn’t notice the bug anymore] and it won’t give your enemy Sigile Stack anymore for killing it.

Necro is indeed in a pretty good place right now, quite a few decent builds that work.

Although for any new players, I always suggest going 30/0/20/20/0 and focus on being dps, and then let your spec grow out of that into something you enjoy. Personally I love my condition build, and my utilities and a few weapon moves all mean I have some nice CC and the ability to convert boons to conditions on enemy (bunkers hate this, with a passion). Power necros hit like a god kitten truck in steriods, whilst having a decent chance of staying alive. Yep, the necro is actually pretty solid right now, lots of things are working (which is funny considering the bugged nature of all classes traits etc).
