Khalifa's PVP D/D Necro Build [Updated]
How do you live through D/P thieves? I tried dagger necro and I simply need team peels to stay alive when I choose to go melee range.
D/P thieves can be tough just because of the constant blinds/dazes. In all honesty it comes down to how much life force you have. With a half full to full bar of life force thieves don’t stand a chance, you lock them down with one good root and they will die. On the flip side if they catch you off guard with no life force you’re most likely going to die. It’s more or less the large amount of burst damage that thieves do, it can be rough at times.
In general I would say remember that you don’t need to stay in dagger#1 range constantly. Even in a power build necros still have a decent amount of ranged options available to them. You should really only be going in to the 130 dagger range when you have a burst combo lined up.
OKay, um…a crit necro? to tell the truth I almost couldn’t stop laughing. It’s a good build, but seriously, if you want crit with d/d go with an ele or a thief. I’ve been playing necros since the beginning of gw1 and it is by far my fav class. A necro is horrible at crit and straight out attacks. They’re not made for it. Just cuz it has precision and crit crap in the build doesn’t mean it should be used for every class. Necros have and always will concentrate on CONDITIONS and raising the nasty looking minions (which i rarely use) You can get a high hp necro with high tough and good cond damage and straight out raw damage. I will have to post a link to my build(s) at some other time as the links don’t seem to be working correctly when I try to post them.
But I too use a d/d necro with staff, But a d/d necro is more the exp necro and have to know what they are doing. If not exp with necro then stick with staff/scepter/focus or staff/axe/focus or staff/axe/dagger etc but not d/d. altho my build is more for spvp, it would work wonders in tpvp. It’s actually an adaption of my d/d build for wvw. I can take on a cpl attackers at a time and do great. Only issues are guardians with the constant cond removals. But will take down the crappy thieves in seconds whether or not they are hiding.

D/W Well based Necromancers are by far the strongest bursters in the game second only to Shatter Mesmers. Whereas we are actually one of the worst Condition-based classes, and our pet build is absolutely awful.
Unless you’re talking about WvW/PvE, where you can get by using virtually anything
Why would someone bump a 6 month old thread just to tell one of the better necros around that he’s doing it wrong? Troll?

I can get by in PvE while using only half gear and 2 traits. WvW is a little tougher, but I can still get by with any build I can think of just by hiding in a zerg.
Since its been bumped i though i d ask…
Khalifa any changes in your build over the last few months that you d like to share?
Also what do u think about WH instead of dagger? I might have missed it, but i dont think u ever commented on that.

Builds still the same as listed in the OP. Haven’t really felt the need to change anything.
As for WH offhand it can have its uses in pvp. I’ve said already in this thread that dagger offhand is just what I prefer. I feel that the condi transfer and the extra aoe from dagger 5 are much better options that WH.
Cool
Thank you for your answer

So you can get by 48 fractals with half gear and 2 traits?
“Hiding in a Zerg” says it all really.

“Hiding in a Zerg” says it all really.
Who cares about 48+ Fractals except the hardcore casuals. Also, no, you don’t need gear. At levels such as that, agony resistance doesn’t matter. It relies entirely on a good team. You can get by on very little in PvE if you’re smart about it.
Again, the point was “It doesn’t matter”, you can hide in a zerg or solo camps. The builds don’t matter as much in PvE or WvW as the skill ceiling is significantly smaller, and you can force reliance on numbers and teamwork.
Is this build still viable with all the changes?
offhand dagger still has its merits.
Other than that a lot has changed.
I’ve been playing this in top 100 solo queue: http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=;043Z-FKlHFJ0F4cJkJ0;9;4T;09T59B;40;059BINV0-NV0Ewk2Ewk25Bm
I think it’s a lot better than Khalifa’s build with all the changes. Synergizing Dark Pact and Well of Suffering with Death Shroud and Life Blast is crazy burst.

Holy thread Necromancy!
The 30/15/0/0/15 build is outshined by 30/X/0/X/30 (the last 10 can go curses or blood really) now because Deathly Perception is Boss, and the extra crit damage combined with the previous nerf to quickness make the damage way better on the latter.
Power Necro is still very positioning intensive, and involves a lot of baiting and waiting before you burst to be effective at it, but it is even more devastating that it was previously.
Yeah, it’s a really underrated build. I don’t think it’s overpowered, but it’s a lot more viable than people seem to think it is.
Spectral Grasp is also incredible utility, and only power builds really have the utility skill space to take it and make full use of it.

Funny I should see this now, I tried a deathly perception build in pvp just last night for the first time. I made a thread about it, and everyone suggested I switch from axe to mh dagger – seems you’ve been having some success with it too! :p
I actually linked the wrong build somehow. Here’s the real one: http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=;043Z-FKlHFJ0F4cJkJ0;9;4T;09T59B;40;059BINV0-NV0Ewk2Ewk25Bm
I don’t like Lich Form in PvP. It’s way too easy to avoid because the projectile’s homing is awful, and it’s not really necessary with Deathly Perception. Also, Plague stomp.
Why dagger over axe? Axe seems to do a lot dmg in a short amount of time. I also like the boon strip ability on axe #3. I assume staff is nice in whatever build you pick.
Is dagger #1 overall better dmg? I assume the immobilize is nice in sPvP.
We really need a updated thread with all the current, good sPvP builds. I was considering starting one. I hate searching google for the updated builds. The build thread on here is badly outdated. Not to mention all the builds are done by 1 guy who has awfully long tutorial videos that could easily be shortened with a link to the build. Who got time for that?
Dagger No. 1 is more damage than everything except Lich Form No. 1 and Death Shroud No. 1 with Deathly Perception. The immobilize is also amazing for landing wells and peeling.
I’m considering writing a guide for power builds to supplement my condition guides, but it’s a big undertaking, so no guarantees.

Horsing around with this build last night in T2 WvW, basically with the gear I had, Full Knights (Scholar Runes) and Ascended Cavalier Jewelry and the the result was surprising. I had several encounters where I instagibbed clothies and came out of a few outnumbered fights. Most people didn’t know what to do against a necro with daggers.
I didnt record but I also got a Spinal Shivers crit for 6k. The only downside I had was absolutely no get out of jail free cards, and this is bad in melee. But so is the life of a necro. I would like to see this playstyle mature a bit.

As far as finding builds goes, I’ve had a lot of success with searching Youtube instead of Google. Be sure to search within a week/month.
Also, a big thank you for all who put their videos online. Makes life easier for us who have very limited ammounts of time.

Yeah, the build is kind of bad for soloing, at least compared to condition builds, because of the lack of outs. But it’s amazing in a good group that peels.
I haven’t logged into gw2 in a few months, so some things may need to be adjusted. I should have some time this weekend.

I also appreciate the work and time, but please shorten the tutorial videos and separate the gameplay! Or have a minute of gameplay. :P Don’t forget to post the link to the build!!!!!
I tried the build posted recently as well. I enjoyed it but in solo hot join it’s much easier to down people as condi necro. The trinket is the biggest difference. Maybe if I tried to switch berz amulent… but i hate losing all that dps.

Not quite sure yet, I’ve been itching to play recently. I’ll have to see what’s good with the game now to decide.
