Necromancer Greatsword. Want?
Kraitkin is necroish. And howler is sort of (feel its more necroey than bolt thats for sure).
Im sure they are going to remove the Dhuumfire and gives us a torch ( maybe even as a mainhand).
They could make the torch a hybird weapon, high direct dmg+fire.
YES. GREATSWORD. I WANT! new chiroptophobia would look perfect on my necro
Yes gimme gimme gimme! And I also want sword, and hammer. And I want the skills to be useful.
Chirotophobia should have been an axe. It even looks like an axe. So disappointed.
No GS, no Hammer, no mace.
Scythe and Crossbow for my necro please!
Sctythe: melee, cleave, gap closer, chill, combo finishers, high lf gen.
Crossbow: cripple, bleeds, weakness, gap generator, summon jagged horrors.
yes sir, the sylvari racial GS is awesome and I want it!
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
No GS, no Hammer, no mace.
Scythe and Crossbow for my necro please!
I still don’t see the need for a scythe: we already have the staff, that goes scythe-like when you use a skill with it, and other classes shouldn’t use a scythe too often. But the crossbow is a very good idea indeed!
@ Sorrow’s Furnace (VE)
If whips are ever introduced into the game (kind of like the open world weapons) I think that would be a decent fit.
No GS, no Hammer, no mace.

no to crossbow, that will simply ruin everything about what a bow stands for, it doesn’t even fit the necro one bit.
This question isn’t just aimed at sorudo, [you just happen to be the last poster ] but beyond traditional fantasy archtypes, , how do we decide what does and doesn’t fit a necro? A necro is simply a magic user who specializes in undeath. So if we’re fine with other magic user using other weapons, why not one that specializes in undeath?
personally, I’m in favor of thinking outside the box. Because the classic arch types were created themselves by other people. Why not let a-net create their own archtypes? I would be completely in favor of Necro battlemages. They don’t need need hreavy armor, all they need is a more melee oriented use of their death magic. Much like daggers act now. if dagger are fine then other things should be fine too.

crossbow it’s the weapon of choice of several casters on several fantasy role playing games, since you don’t need a lot of strength to use it, opposite to a bow. I definitely see necros, eles and mesms using crossbows as ranged weapons.
I don’t see how a crossbow hurt your feeling for bows. They are totally different concepts.

Actually, no it isnt, hell all classes that have a school or specialization get a -2 penalty (aka additional 20% failure rate) on using non-arcane/school based projectiles after they got a decent amount of levels (hell you need not 2 traits like for melee weapons but 4 or even 5 in case of being a sorcerer to able to use it without having a chance to poke out your own or your allies eyes).
Also Crossbows dont really make sense in the GW universe since everyone is kinda a ripped adonis or awesomeness, so the reason why crossbows were created (to allow people without years of training and physical strength of a bull able to shoot from range for 3-5 hours of a siege). Also would you really want a 2~ second long cast time on auto attacks?
It would be cool to have a crossbow bow skin that uses the rifle animations (like one of the next legendaries hint hint wink wink nudge nudge) trough.
I don’t know what modern games have you participated in, but in old school d&d casters can use at least 1 weapon without any penalties at lvl 1.
You won’t need 2 secs for aa. By that logic, pistols would take like 10 secs. Totally nonsense.
Crossbows are as epic as any other weapon in gw2. Go ask any demon hunter in Diablo 3.
How about they slow us to use underwater weapons on land. I’d like to use a spear on land. Could be a good power wep.

I would like this too. But now that chiroptophobia is out i cant shake the idea of necro with greatsword lol. I want bats flying around me! Their also many nice greatsword skins that would look perfect on necro.
I would love scythe on my necromancer with a melee cleave!
Though ANet said they would give current weapons to classes before creating new weapons so I would +1 GS on Necro. Even though there is so many Twilight would look awesome on Necros… more so than any other class that currently can wield it.
I would be happy with any AoE power-based weapon.
Be that one-handed or two-handed.
Melee or ranged.
I would be extra happy with a GS or a hammer though :P
Be glad that we can have DUO DAGGERS and own with them !!! TSS Stupid warriors go take one if u want gs !
No, don’t want. An off-hand axe would be cool as was mentioned but I’m satisfied other than that.

Not ranged or exotic ones, you started off with -10 because you couldnt pick up bow proficiency, but that doesnt matter since bows and slings were kinda op at early levels for a reason to allow weaker classes to get the 4-6 levels they needed to get their school and/or craft setup. If you continued to use bows post your (in this case necromancy) specialization or after turning into a pale master as a sorc, you got a -20 on it even if you for some reason went and picked up the weapon specs for bows because you are a arcane or divine profession using a weapon without arcane/divine properties, hell as a pally n blackguard you needed special ammo not to pretty much kill your own party or in best case scenario shoot a little bug at the enemies feet.
Also please dont use that game as a point of comparison, go one step back for true dungeon crawling.
Also GW2 has quite advanced tech which includes having a real magazine, but even by real world standards a crossbow would require 4 times the loading time than a simple barrel load. And dont even get me started on the handling of repeater crossbows which would be a 2man 2 handed weapon.

I think a crossbow would definitely be two handed the way the rifle and bow are but the ancient Chinese had one-man repeating crossbows.
If a Necro can use either a Greatsword or a Hammer I will overlook all the extreme cheesiness of this class and make it my main again <3

Hammer would be nice, I have to say there are too many greatsword users in the game currently. Every second person has a GS equipped, it’s starting to look a bit silly.
I’d be happy with a main hand Sword or a off hand Axe.
Greatsword or Torch for real. We can use warhorns but not torches? Necro please…
And might I add for precedent in regards to GS: Trahearne is a necromancer and he has one.
I think I’m with those here who are against GS. As much as I would love to have a cleaving, power-based, life-siphon, melee weapon, I’m afraid it would turn into the “dark” version of the Guardian’s or the Mesmer’s skillsets. If, however, it was done in an inventive and effective way, I guess I wouldn’t complain.
However, I’d still prefer Hammer or Dual Pistols. The former for the ultimate attrition/CC build, and the latter for a ranged life-siphon/soft CC build.
Main hand : chain
Off hand : axe / candle / moldy tome
Well I just had a epiphany. Since I think we need a true ranged offense power weapon (staff is too little dps) I have been saying longbow…but imagine this…
A Rifle…aka “boomstick” or “caster” for those who get the references. The trick would be making it different from the engi or warr rifles…
I think the auto attack should be a simple buck shot type attack that hits a cone infront of the necro. Either with individual projectiles (so if you are close you can hit a enemy with all…8-12 or so hits.) or a range modifier. Call it “Boom”
2. Hail to the King – Your life force builder. Just a simple enchanted slug that steals life force when it connects. Very short CD. Balance is you give up aoe dmg to build LF.
3. Become Death – shot with a modest cast time that when it hits, would create a dark well field under the enemies feet, damaging all enemies standing in it for a few seconds.
4 Army of Darkness – When it connects, it causes a blast finisher and summons 5 bone minions around the enemy. Long cool down.
5 Become the Void – A dangerous attack to use. It uses 25% life force to cast. But if it hits, you get 10% life force per enemy affected. The attack Causes your enemy to become a focal point of the void, drawing all nearby enemies to him and causing damage for each enemy drawn to all enemies, up to 5 enemies. Leaves them crippled afterward. Long cool down.
So yeah, a proper aoe ranged power weapon to match mesmer and ele capabilities but with a sufficiently dark theme.
Give the Necro the Longbow. Give it a stealth mechanic and make it a true hybrid weapon. Let me brainstorm for a sec…
Skill 1: Wraith Shot – Fire piercing spectral arrows at your target. Each hit gives 2% Life force. (It fires twice as fast as Staff but gives half as much LF)
Skill 2: Twisting Fangs – Fires a twisting pair of ghostly arrows that pierce targets. Each target hit causes Life Siphoning and receives Bleeding.
Skill 3: Soul Chains – Fire a fan of arrows with ghostly chains attached. Each target hit by a arrow is afflicted by 1 stack of torment and 1 sec of immobilize. Becomes Soul Reaping; you yank your chained targets to you. Each target yanked gives 3% life force.
Skill 4: Grenth’s Assassin – Fire a poisoned arrow and stealth yourself for 4 seconds.
Skill 5: Grenth’s Reach – Fire a Piercing Arrow for significant damage to all targets it hits. If fired from stealth, it causes Weakness also.So bleeding, Torment and Poison + Weakness and a good power coefficient. The concept here is that a necromancer uses incorporeal arrows that naturally pass through targets. This could jive with Shroud builds and Condi builds, you could even use Soul Chains in combo with wells. This would also make a true torment necro very viable.
Stealth mechanic?
ALL THE NOPE
Necro 2h Axe, Want?
I’d love a GS if only for twighlight, but having an off hand axe would be pretty cool too.
S/I/F engineer Z/R/D guard
Trying on light outfits on my guard last night so I could get a feel for a norn necro look made me understand just how bad kitten a Necro with the AC greatsword would look.
My warrior has a pretty necroey feel to her. Id love to put my dhuumseal on my necro. Having the necro skill effects with a gs or sword would be amazing.
Greatsword already has plenty of profession distribution. I’d rather not see it become even more prevalent, regardless of how many “Necro-friendly” Greatsword skins there are.
I’d say Battleaxe would be the best possible Necro 2H addition, but since those don’t exist in the game just yet, I suppose Hammer would be the next best thing. I’m fond of the idea I saw in another threat where the weapon would be based around downward strikes which would draw up dark forces from the earth. Grasping hands, bursts of necrotic energy, perhaps an immobilize which drops the opponent into a glowing hole, that sort of thing.
I want greatsword as an aoe weapon with direct damage. That would be a new build option for single-target obligated power necro weapons.

sooooooo no…
Too many swords already.. seriously only 2 classes can use maces and almost EVERYONE can use the GS. It’s lame.
GS would be nice…I like my dagger….should make dark pact AoE from target with AoE torment.
Offhand Torch would be a nice way to bring in some torment. Also, the other ability “Moth’s to the Flame” – pulls people to you. – sounds good?
EDIT: Blunted weapons are anti-undead…don’t think it fits.
As much as I would like GS, making spear a land based weapon would be cool also. Problem with that is the lack of animations for it on land.
I think this is the biggest reason you will see weapons that are already in the game before new ones, you can pull from existing work to implement them. So my bet would be on GS or Sword/torch.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
Absolutely for Mace and Torch. Greatsword might not look TOO bad if its skills suited a slow executioner theme. Could use Torch to set minions on fire.
I would love for my Necromancer to have a Greatsword or even dual swords and yes the Twilight would fit the Necromancer good but I would also like for them to bring back the Scythe from GW1 but I really can’t see a Crossbow being used by a Necromancer
Yes to a greatsword draining life force, turning it into actual health.
I have an idea like no other! Lets give a greatsword to all! Get rid of all the other weapons.. and classes! Say no! to common sense, good taste and divirse play stiles an looks! Every one should have a great sword twice as big as one is and do all the same stuff pretending its different! Be honest – you want a great sword douse you are hyper-compensating!
A Rifle…aka “boomstick” or “caster” for those who get the references.
Outlaw Star? May I have a cookie!?
Even so, no. Torches for Torture (Torment!)!
And a hand Sickle…Kusarigama…2 handed AoE with pull and cleave….
4 of the 8 professions use greatswords and 5 out of 8 professions use swords. Greatswords are considered one of, if not, the best weapons for PvE and there price reflects that. For economic reasons and diversity reasons I would suggest against these 2 weapons.
As for hammers. Again I’m going to say no. I do think more professions should use a hammer, but they don’t fit with the philosophy and style of a necromancer. Hammers for an Engineer on the other hand fits them very well. But necromancer? No. A sword makes far more sense for a necromancer. But I would rather not have some weapons become too common.
My suggestions would be Off hand Axe, Scythe and Tomb. Scythe has been suggested before(allot). But a Tomb has been rarely suggested. Usually called an offhand book. But I feel that a weapon as a tomb would be nice. A primarily defensive weapon on a necromancer. Not giving them blocks but giving them retaliate and protection or causing life stealing when they are struck with attacks for a short duration.
I guess I don’t care either way if we get a torch. That could be fine as long as they don’t cause more then 1 second of burning. Maybe another weapon that cause fear and/or torment. Actually a AOE 1 second fear and burning skill with a 30 second cool down sounds pretty cool.
Scythe and dervs while you’re at it please
Hammer & Torch for current weapons. Greataxe for future weapons.
Mainhand and Offhand Torch. Torment and/or Burn AoE applicant favorable.
GS really shouldn’t be melee, but keep the swinging animation(or tweak it) and make it ranged… with black-ish green claws/fire, and not rehashed axe effects either.
Tengu. Make it happen.
