Necromancer, Where are my undead soldiers?
Guild Wars Necromancers don’t reanimate the dead, they use often long-dead “materials” to create constructs to serve as their cannon fodder.
That’s why we don’t have human skeletons or zombies and such wandering around hitting things for us.

The above post is correct, you aren’t actually reanimating the dead you are just using the dead to create creatures to defend you.
Also, we have an ‘undead ranger’ in the form of our bone fiend, that attacks at range and can be commanded to immobilize foes.
And the ‘undead hammer warrior’ is basically our Flesh Golem, with the same command and everything, he charges and knocks foes around.
Thank you guy for the response …if they use materials to summon the undead where did you get this from ?? who told you that they do this?? and as far as not reanimating most of the mins you call on are reanimated the flesh worm and the little ones come from another creature in the world …
In the original Guild Wars title, Dhuum, the first god of Death disallowed any form of Undead or Ressurection. This was why he was viewed as an unfair and largely unforgiving entity. Grenth and the Seven Reapers opposed this and struck him down, deposing him as the God of Death and allowing Grenth to assume that mantle. Grenth subsequently allowed for both Resurrection at appropriate locations, as well as for quasi-undead. That being the construction of minions from the dead, but not actually re-animating the bodies/attempting to harness the dead souls.
Also a correction concerning the skills we use. 1) We don’t really know what the Shade is. Arguably, it could be some kind of spirit, but I would say considering the nature of necromancy in the game and how they created, it’s most likely a minor elemental constructed of darkness and cold. 2) It’s not an Animated Wurm. It’s a constructed flesh wurm. It’s built to imitate the form of a wurm, but from parts lying about.
Our minions are very much more a kin to Frankenstein’s than Zombies and skeletons. Built from the dead, but not re-animating them as they once were. Whether this is a cleaner version of necromancy or simply a more freaky version of grave robbing is up to your perspective.
wow thank you Raphink for the story behind the necro and why they do not reanimate, this is what i wanted and you gave a nice clear msg thank you and at the same time im like dang it…. i love the old necromancer and i hope one day they get to reanimate instead of what we get…to me a necromancer raises the dead and reanimates them, but in gw2 its not a necro more like a flesh golemmancer they should change the name but that,s just my op…love the game think its awesome but will stay away from the flesh golemmancer…
They’re necromancers because they deal in magic related to death, spirits, and life-force. It doesn’t say anywhere that necromancers have to animate corpses.
Originally “necromancer” (in the real world) just meant someone who supposedly used magic to speak to dead spirits. The whole “animating the dead” thing came much later and only in fiction.

This , necromancer comes from the greek word necromadis ( and boo for forum not accepting greek letters) who like simple seers , had a connection to the underworld and the world of spirits. Just a small drop of info fro msomeone who knows these facts from his history,
Also , do not forget that your first great enemy Zhaitan , raises actual Zombies. I don’t think the necromancers who opposed him would liek to practise the same art with him. Just a thought i had lately.
