If I may be so bold as to suggest a solution to the problem, I think that making all marks inherently larger and then combining the Unblockable effect with 20% reduced cooldowns might solve a lot of problems! Not just with this bug, but with the class…and the community…and my heart…please…Find it in your heart to do this…I beg you…

Evan posted in another section of the forums about a hotfix tomorrow so this may come with it, but we’ll be waiting another month to see any changes towards the class itself—if at all.

Playing Necro is just adjusting the settings to Hard mode. No escapability, No stability/invuln (90 sec cooldown on Spectral skill is not worth it), and the longest cooldowns in the game. At least we will all be prepped and ready for when Dark Souls 2 comes out.

I don’t know man…
We get more than 2 dodges in a row in Dark Souls that might make it too easy.

Lol, why does A-net bother to keep this class in the game if they couldn’t be bothered to fix the plethora of issues with it. The community even made a nice compilation of bugs, which got stickied and has since been abandoned because let’s face it….we know we won’t get the class we’re looking for, it’s just too low a priority (it would seem).

I’m not trying to bust your balls Anet, I just think you need to adjust your priorities a bit. You have given so much focus to the Mesmers, Warriors and Guardians, even done a huge update to Engies and Rangers, but you still haven’t given us anything that tells us you are actually trying to fix the Necromancer.

Customer satisfaction should be your number one priority, and as it stands, Necromancers are NOT satisfied.

They had a state of the game where one of the necros (can’t remember who) tried to pin them down on if they thought this would be a good idea, and they sort of shrugged it off… I am on board with it 100%, but I doubt seriously they will do it. Me and tiny always roll together, because every build I use has staff and staff requires 10 points in DM.

BUT, since it is busted now, it is a great time to go ahead and just combine the two… i mean come on… that HAS to be easier than figuring out the bug…. Marks bigger, unblockable/shorter cooldown together.. make it happen!

I think you are referring to the March SOTG where Xeph from Team Paradigm started calling them out on necro’s and got shut down. I remember that one specifically because you could just see that it disgusted him and he didn’t say much after that. Kinda representative of how things go here.

Ironic when it’s asked for greater marks size to be baseline and the unblockable part fused with staff mastery, basically fusing the 2 traits kinda. Instead we get a patch that makes them not work together lol.

It was Symbolic, who asked about staff mark size. Specifically he mentioned that staff was useless without 10 points in DM, and asked if they looked at increasing the base mark size, and they talked about something else completely different. In that case they just totally missed the question and no one pushed it.

No I am pretty sure they got it, since I remember them saying that his point was that marks sucked without the trait, but more or less they didn’t agree or disagree with the point (at that point they changed the subject). They certainly didn’t agree to look into it as far as I remember.

And thanks for the correction, I believe it was Symbolic.

Can i also point out that along with Staff Mastery bug, there is also another bug which they haven’t fixed is the DS bug. As many of player maybe unaware of the bug but when entering DS and coming out of DS. There is a small 1-2 seconds delay before any of the utilities show up. Now this small incident only occurs when all your life force is drained out. Apart from that when switching DS off/on with a some amount of life force then it is fine, the utilities show up instantly without any problem.

From this test find out if the bug occurs to you to. It is not as major as the trait’s bugs but still is in my concern which effects me. So i wish for you to try out the DS bug and see if you applies to you to ?

Not entirely. This time, they knew that the offending code had to be one of the few lines they changed in this past patch. Much shorter time to locate it and fix the issue. The others, there is more code to search through to solve the issue. Programming can often be a kitten.

Remember that one of the things Anet has at there disposal is a wealth of information on what skills and traits the players are using at any given time (supposedly). I would imagine this particular combination, (greater marks, which I would say well over 75% of WvW necros are using, and staff mastery, possibly 25%) was going to get increasingly more noise as time went on. Focus on the other hand, I would say is significantly less used on the whole, and even less so with the broken trait.

However, as glad as I am for a fix, damage control is an inefficient and insulting way to deal with bugs. A much more professional way to deal with this would be to have a list of bugs they are aware of, and a priority assigment to them, acknowledge by the development team.

Imagine if such a list existing, and even if the update they gave each month was “were still looking into it – Still priority 2”. At least there would be someone that would have their skin in the game responsible for stating they are actually considering the issues.

The problem with one-off dev responses, like in the case of the 50% downed state bug, which is horribly painful in WvW, are that they can simply sweet that under the rug unless we keep forcing it to the front of the forum, over and over and over again. Accountability and acknowledgement of bugs would be a great way to keep people like me from wondering why some bugs get instant and immediate attention, and others are ignore for months, with no explanation what-so-ever.

If you can’t fix the bugs, don’t have time to fix the bugs, just say so. I am a practical person, I can handle business priorities and what they mean for an underplayed class…. but lets not pretend the bugs that have been around for several months are getting proper attention.

They already have this… internally. It’s called a bug tracker, and lots of the devs have spoken about it before (specifically from the live response team). It’s used in basically all software development companies. That said, it’s not available to the public. Why? So we can’t debate what “should” or “shouldn’t” be higher/lower priority, and so we can’t constantly report bugs that are duplicates, and so forth.

How does keeping that list internal prevent us from reporting duplicate bugs? If anything, you would get MORE duplicate bug reports if you were unaware it was already on the “real” list. We have a bug list on this forum, but other than a forum sticky, there is no indication it has any bearing on this other list.

If priority would be a hot point, then just publish the list with no priorities. Here are the XXX bugs for necro we have on the list currently to be resolved. Seeing them there would at least let us know they existed on the minds of the developers.

Don’t tell me transparency is a bad thing.

We know daddy was mortal, so that rules out Dhuum.

We also “know” that the Stormcaller rained fire on the charr, that there are 5 dragons and that the Mursaat were bad guys by that (with them killing humans for totally no reason whatsoever). Listening to in game stuff made by NPCs that still live is kida kitten in terms of lore unless its hidden conversations (like the whispers one when you get into the priory). Also you get to read the 2 scrolls about how Grenth took over where his father fell that are on orr (on in personal story mission when you go to the CoS, other is near a skillpoint on malchors leap names “somethingorother-numbertoinserhere Grenth god of death”).
Also as we know thanks to abbadon and grenth himself all gods were/kinda are some form of mortal, be it physical (abbadon) or spiritual (dhuum).

To be fair in order for them to test it they would have to play necro and in order to do that they had to create a necro to test it, so in a way it makes sense that they thought it was fixed.

To be fair, players were showing this on forums 15 days to a month before dev’s could create it. Dev’s have said they have there OWN private/secret accounts as well as staff dev testers. Conspiracy that dev’s wouldn’t play/test a necro on own time or work time?

Ok, don’t really want to start a hate flame war. I’m actually really glad that “JonPeters” bothered post a reply to us letting us know what’s going on, and it wasn’t ‘fixed’ a year later with a tooltip update.

Still not at the dev love of they should have my babys, but I’d shout him a beer. :-)
