80 Necro “a dying breed”

After last patch, I cannot swap weapons while in DS. I use staff while in deathshroud, so its very important for me to swap in DS before I Life transfer. I cannot find this in patch notes anywhere. Is this a “hidden change” or is this something that got bugged out after the 2/28 patch? Personally im kitten at this change. Many times I go into DS in emergency mode while using axe/focus, but I like to switch to staff after the fact to maximize Damage. This really puts a dampener on what otherwise could have been a good patch for power and MM necros….
Am I missing something in the patch notes? Are you guys experiencing the same thing? Ive relogged several times, and rebound my wep swap, to fix this…nothing has worked.
I haven’t tried swapping weapons, but I have noticed that exiting DS seems to trigger weapon swap sigils, which I hadn’t noticed occurring before. Maybe they modified the way Death Shroud works.
And here I thought I was just hitting the wrong button (My binds are a little weird, so it happens to me often enough.)
But yeah, you can no longer swap weapon sets while in death shroud, which is a shame. I am certain you could before… All of the skills would ‘flip’ to the same skills, it was kind of funny but a good way to know you had switched.
Maybe it wasn’t intended functionality from the start? There’s never been a “switch sets” button on the death shroud UI anyways. Really sad to see it go though, I liked having 3 seconds left on weapon swap, going into DS, then swapping while in DS to run down the swap timer before I had to leave DS anyways.
They’re probably making DS more like other transformations. AFAIK you can’t switch weapons while in Lich Form, either, for example.
Yeah, I rarely swapped anyways, I guess you either use it defensively and not worry about weapon swap now or if you plan on using it offensively do the swap just before hitting ds.
I can’t believe it either. Just constantly lowering the skill cap to floor ceiling. Removing abilities that classes can do left and right. There was no reason for this. If my weapon swap is up 2 seconds into Death Shroud, I should be able to swap. Now that I can’t, this effectively increases my weapon swap cooldown by ~2-5 seconds since I have to wait until being out of Death Shroud.
Real classy.

yeah this blows, I cant switch to my rage sigil weapon and set up a proc anymore in DS
that sucks, I used to do #2 shroud, then switch to dagger with chill on switch, come off, and kill my foe with wells/dagger.

Funny you say that, I’m pretty sure they fixed animation locking with the patch, which includes shroudstomping. I’m not able to do it now, tell me if you can though.
This just ruffles my feathers. Confirmation on this doesnt break the way I play, it just makes Deathshroud less versitle…I’m really disappointed. There are so many reasons why I love to swap weps in DS. I like to be rdy to do something specific depending on the situation when I leave DS. Also the major DMG increase from using Staff is super important especially if I have to use DS in a o crap moment while using axe/focus.
Overall, this negates about 50% of the positivity I WAS feeling originally from this patch…the least they could do is tell us about it, and explain why it was not allowed now…..

Lol? How can you accidently swap your weapon?
I can still rez in DS (in WvW, not tested in sPVP), didn’t notice I couldn’t change weapons though. I do remember the icons “switching”, but can’t remember if the weapon switch really occured.
If only they could normalize damage in DS without needing a staff to max it, it would at least remove one problem with needing to swap in the first place (and would promote others weapons combos for DS) . For sigils, it’s another matter.
It was pretty cool to do aoe chills in shroud; I agree it bites, but it didnt really seem intended. Not totally surprised. Glad I didnt get too attached to it.

Proc on Crit sigils and traits still work fine in death shroud.

I can confirm, it was happening to me in sPvP yesterday.
Sounds the same as the Elementalist mechanic; they get weapon swap procs on attunement change. Whether or not DS is intentionally working like that is another matter of course

Anyway, the actual notes for it is in the “Guild Wars 2 Wiki Notes” section at the bottom of the list. Who knows why?
I still can’t grasp how they can put patches out and “forget” to include half of the changes they made. This has happened every patch, and only after players call them on it. Same with the new stupid utility bar delay from exiting deathshroud. If I exit DS to heal and I don’t have enough time or I get interrupted and I die that’s totally fine. If I die because my spells are now inaccessible for a full second after I no longer have the protection of DS, that’s not acceptable. They need to clarify this crap when it happens not force us to wonder what happened, try and find a general consensus on the forums, and then complain about it until someone says, “Oh yeah sorry we changed all that stuff. Never made it to the patch notes.” Not having DS weapon swap and adding a delay to spell usage after exiting DS are both pretty significant nerfs to gameplay that we’ve been accustomed to since beta. An explanation as to why they felt this was necessary and why they didn’t tell us about it would be nice but we won’t hear anything.

If you mean the patch notes posted on the Guild Wars 2 Wiki (As compared to the patch notes in the announcement section of the forum, which do not have that section) then it’s probably because that particular section of the wiki article is community created. So it would collect changes not officially noted.

I’m 95% certain this is a hardware issue, because of how many people aren’t seeing any delay/lockout. As much as I like some furious indignation, it wasn’t a ninja nerf, it’s a bug that started popping up after a patch, which is what a lot of bugs do, really.

I’ve encountered the delay on skills only a few times, but when it happens it is very notable, especially in pvp.
I doubt it’s hardware, and it isn’t intentional, they probably changed something backend and causes it to happen occasionally. I wish I could say the same about weapon swapping sadly…

Are you certain? I just tried it out with a friend to no effect, also tried in pve with the same results.

I would love a link or quote about this from the Devs in a previous post. This would just put the cherry on top for me. I really have avoided being a naysayer about necros, but since i got my ascended amulet on my necro, I’m putting 100% into getting my last ascended on my guardian now….its just silly how fluid Guardian feels compared to necro…this patch just makes it even worse. Guard got even more fixes/balance. Pure of Voice works now….yet our plauge signet is pure trash. awesome.
John Peters said it was a part of the class’ features, and to play properly we had to use it while mastering Death Shroud or something similar.

So first a dev says to use it, then they remove it silently, and no comment is forthcoming. Sadly, this is becoming the norm for ANet. Their continued silence on all manner of bugs is getting a bit annoying.
I do hate to say it but this is quite a big nurf to power Necromancers. Running dual Superior Sigils of Battle myself i would swap twice whilst in DS to pump up #1 before dropping out @ 50%.
Deathshroud isn’t like a fixed item (Engineer kit, environmental weapon) were they come with there own stats, its based of your own stats (damage from attack and health from vitality + soul reaping) so weapon swapping should still be allowed in Deathshroud.
About the hardware issue for locking bars after exiting DS, just go in WvW, get slammed by a veteran guarding a flag while in DS, and watch yourself get kicked out of the form, bars locked for 1 seconds, and DS NOT on cooldown.
This is easy to reproduce, and is definitely not hardware related. Doesn’t happen every times I get CC, but enough to notice it and it’s an annoyance.

Seriously I will, it’s the most specific response I’ve gotten on how to cause the effect.
Edit: Guess what? Got destroyed multiple times: still had zero delay on my skill bar popping up. I still think network latency is involved somehow.

I’m surprised so few people see this as a major change. I used to use Rabid weapon set to start Death Shroud and cast DS#2, and have the extra toughness help me against any hits I might take doing that. Then I’d switch to Rampager Staff so my Life Blasts would hit harder and my bleeds would still tick for roughly the same.
It felt very engaging and now with that gone, my Necro felt like some fun was sucked out of it (not to mention the nerfs to the weapon swap cooldown seconds saved with this.)
