The State of the Necromancer
Necro is a fine class atm, as far as I’m concerned necro is more diverse and can play more roles than any other class, and has always been good.
They do well in all the new content, still do well in all old content.
The only problem is there are people that are so lazy and want the game to be so easy for themselves that they think nobody should play necro because they don’t offer anything to them. As opposed to mesmer buffs, warrior’s might.. eles heal etc.
It turned down a little when HoT just released but it’s getting pretty bad again, not only for necro but also playing other classes slightly out of meta. Which is sad and boring.
I wish they would rework Death Shroud and make it a viable choice instead of always using Reaper spec, that would be really nice.
The problem is that necros have very little group support and a big part of that is ignored by unskilled tryhards who want their Pug raid to be a world record run.
Power necro is dead for Raids, but still okay for dungeons while condi is strong in raids and high level fractals
About the only group support I can see that we have is the vampiric traits in Blood Magic, which gives everyone in our group life steal, and unholy martyr which allows us to passively take conditions from our team mates (which we can then give back to the enemy).
Well if you look things from different perspectives:
WvW: Necro still good/meta backliner
PvP: Below average after recent nerfs.
Raids: Condi is viable. Anything else don’t bother. Can be used as a tank (though not great can fill in if needed. Mesmer tank is still superior).
Dungeons: Everything goes, but I wouldn’t bring it to speed runs.
Fractals: Higher levels, party is better off not having necro.
And don’t overthink open world pve since everything goes there.
Honestly. It’s fine.
Condi necro is great in raids and pve, have even been playing with a blood magic like instead of reaper for a condi build+medic that’s been doing well since the changes to life’s steal.
Wvw we are still pretty good.
PvP in still doing just as fine as I was before the nerf. I don’t miss the chill damage because I still have dhuumfire and can stack bleeds with the new deathly chill faster than people can cleanse(every chill, including every frost nova from a crit hits with more bleed. Reaper shroud 5 now acts as a pulsing bleed field technically.)
The only nerf that is really effecting me is the nerf to our stability uptime
