WvW on a Necro
I like the video!
Kinda gave up on my necro but I will try her again. What is the skills, traits and gear you are using? If I may ask?
Im kinda new to the game so sry for all the questions.
Here’s my WvW Necro video from Dragonbrand. Focused on solo roaming and small group combat.
I’ve run every necro build avilable and have found conditionmancer to be the most effective in WvW but power/lifeleech being the most fun, especially in solo & small group combat.
Enjoy!

Thanks. ^^
I have a bit of mixed gear on my Necro, consisting of about 1/2 Berserker, 1/2 Rampager’s. For the upgrade slots, I mixed Beryl Orbs and Coral Orbs, and Emerald Orbs.
My skills are:
6: Consume Conditions – Easily one of the best heals in the game. The condition removal is fantastic.
7:
A. Blood is Power – If I feel like I need to be doing a bit more damage, I use BiP. 10 stacks of might is very nice to help start a burst. (If you don’t know, you can bypass the self-bleed by using BiP without a target.)
B. Spectral Armor – It’s always nice to have a stun breaker. Spectral armor also provides a source of Protection, so it’s always my choice.
8: Well of Suffering – The damage on Well of Suffering is insane. If anybody is standing in it, they will melt.
9:
A. Spectral Grasp – I use Spectral Grasp right after Well of Suffering to make sure targets stay within the damage. The low CD and various uses make it a decent WvW skill choice.
B. Signet of the Locust – If I’m running to a specific part of the map, I will switch of Grasp and put on my Signet. The lack of decent Swiftness on a Necro means that this Signet gets bang for its buck. (This often leads to me not having Grasp on and accidentally activating the Signet.)
0: Plague Form – Plague Form is great for surviving several mobs at a time. Popping a 20-second AoE blind can really help yourself, and your team, pull through a team that has bigger numbers than you.
Traits are changeable, but I’m usually running a 30-25-0-0-15 build.
My choices in traits are as follows:
Spite
10 Point Major Trait
A. II – Spiteful Talisman I don’t normally run this because the CDs for Focus are already decent, but this is not a bad option by any means.
B. VI – Reaper’s Might: I usually run this as I use Death Shroud frequently for things other than a panic button.
20 Point Major Trait
X – Chill of Death: This trait is absolutely amazing in my opinion. A free boon removal, added chill, and damage all in one.
30 Point Major Trait
XI – Axe Training: An absolute must have for a Necromancer using Axe as their main weapon. The damage increase is 15%, which is only 5% lower than the alternative Grand Master Trait, and it is in effect 100% of the time instead of only on targets below 50% health.
Curses
10 Point Major Trait
VI – Terror: As I mentioned before, I use DS as more than just a panic button. I typically pop DS and fear my target after my initial Well/Axe burst, which helps ensure that they don’t heal. The extra damage from Terror is pretty decent, and because this is a burst build, the other traits don’t provide as much.
20 Point Major Trait
IX – Focused Rituals: Wells using Ground Targetting allows me to start a burst from a distance if my Spectral Grasp is on CD and my Well isn’t. Other than that, it’s one of the only traits decent enough to apply to my build.
Soul Reaping
III – Path of Midnight: Having my DS skills recharge faster means I can make use of Terror more often. On top of that, having a teleport and a strong AoE on shorter CDs is also nice.
As for how I open a fight, here’s what I’ll typically do.
Depending on how much time I have before the encounter, I’ll switch to Staff and lay down every Mark directly stacked on each other. Switch back to Axe/Focus, pop BiP. Start Well of Suffering as soon as they’re in range of Spectral Grasp, then cast Grasp ASAP. Follow up the Grasp with #4 so they have a load of Vulnerability, then #2 for a good burst. If they are low on health, just DS -> #3 and Terror should handle it. If they have a moderate amount still, be sure to Fear them towards the Marks you placed down earlier and they should get downed quickly.
Hope that helps a bit! Thanks again.
Nice, I’ve been trying to get well of suffering in my build for a while, may just have to drop corrupt boon. Terror I find decent but I’d have to re-arrange my spec too much for what I would get.

WoS is amazing for damage, and I too had to drop Corrupt Boon for it. Both are certainly great options for WvW, but it didn’t fit with the build. However, I have been contemplating switching out my BiP for CB again. They both have their place, though.
nice vid!! in the process of leveling my necro now. a beastly lvl 14! so. much. fun. so far. and your video helps me want to lvl up faster.
still deciding what kind of build i’m going to do so we’ll see. nice use of spectral grasp. i know the buff they did on axes, but ever thought of using dagger MH so you can root them ni place after the pull? so your wells do even more dmg. still learning the class to do bear with me ; ))
lastly.. couldn’t have been more excited to see a WvW vid paired up with some Super Junior iirc? lol nothing like stomps sync-ed with the beat. i’d say yuo did awesome with the music matching

Yep, Super Junior!
Glad to help inspire you. Get on up to 80 and have a blast.
So i re-read your post and saw you had the orbs in there instead of sigils/runes. I like the extra tough/vit, i am currently running what you have posted here and you weren’t kidding about the well just melting people away lol
thanks for sharing!

Glad to see some necros in the community are still willing to make the pvp oriented videos Keep what your doing up! The necro community appreciates what your doing, as do I.
Just a quick mention about well of suffering, its more power build imo. I looked in my combat logs last night and noticed an enemy WoS ticking on me for 200 a shot lol. Probably not a good idea for a conditionmancer.

My necro is set up as conditionmancer. In PvE and dungeons, most enemies/mobs melt in my conditions applied with epidemic. I can take down most regular 80 level enemies in Cursed Shore in 20 seconds or less solo. I run staff/scepter-dagger. All elite armor/weapons. Max condition stats, traits. Rabid weapons, trinkets and condition maxing runes. I pretty much run Lopez’s conditions build with slight modifications to the trait lines.
Ive pretty much given up on my necro for WvW because the skills just seem to hit like a wet noodle. I never seem to do enough damage to any one or anything. Being limited to hitting 5 people on AOE gimps that damage even further. Limiting the AoE to 5 players has done nothing to dissuade the zergs, if anything its made them stronger because they dont have to worry about wide spread AoE.
I hardly ever get any honor badges on the necro since those apparently drop based on damage.
I tried my warrior and in a couple of hours I got as many badges as I had gotten in days on the necro.
Ill still use the necro but not as often and only if its needed for the situation at hand.

I’ve had the opposite experience. I understand these are the forums and I’m supposed to disown all the professions I play, but I made 4g and 60 badges tonight in WvW.
My first 2 80’s were a warrior and a mesmer.
The mesmer is fantastic for open-world skirmishes, but if we attack a keep—or defend one—the LoS on iZerker is about as good as it is on Grasp now. Which means it’s terrible. (I’d at least like Anet to give some sort of advantage from shooting down from battlements. You know? Like real life?)I have nothing do do but autoattack the gate and maybe pull someone off of seige or off the wall. That mesmers have no consistent speed buff means I’m among the last people to shoot a target, and I need one for AoE (let’s be realistic about GS#3. You’ll never use it except for filler). Which means like in the pen/shelt groups, the skill is blown because the Invader dies before I hit Tab+2/4. 1v1-3 or 4, my mes is amazing. Zerg/squad vs. zerg/squad or either direction in seige, I don’t have a lot of options.
So I rolled a warrior. More to handle income in orr and event farming than actually to WvW, but I heard they’re amazing in WvW, so I gave it a shot. . .and was kited. to. death. As I got the playstyle down, I made kills, but with no blink, and with trash mobs always conveniently there for autotarget, getting away was problematic. The thing about pugs in WvW is that they want kills more than actual victory, so they will watch your kitten die while they’re running from that ranger who just pushed forward to spike you. If the line buckles, with those glass cannon theives and tank guardians targeting the warrior who’s trying to get away with a brisk jog. With bow, I had one reticle aoe, two if the burst was up, so there was a little more to do with warrior. I refuse to use greatsword. It’s kind of a playstyle thing, so I’m sure I could have done better, or made a more serious attempt. I did learn that with a sword/shield condition build I was making more WvW kills just because EB is full of people who spec glass cannon (profession) and hope someone in the zerg will save them. So I looked at Lopez’s conditionmancer guide.
Now, I’m not going to lie and say that on my necro I have more to do than the warrior and the line buckles when the pugs want to kite the enemy zerg for their OWN personal kill. I won’t say that Necro is amazing when you’re jumped by that warrior/guardian duo while trying to run across the map to the commander dorito. That’s frustrating, but it’s not the most of WvW. Zerg/squad vs. zerg/squad and seiges are more important. As a necro, I can use marks to direct traffic. I can push, fear, and aoe tag. I can put marks on walls and watch the glass cannons’ health tick away with 3-6 stacks of bleed and a poison. That said, I’m sure we’re both having grass-is-greener issues, but I AoE’d the heck out of some zergs tonight, and came out with 2 rares and an exotic.

I dont count how much gold I earn in an evening of WvW but I got 75 badges last reset. and a huge amount of kills.
Well I gave the necro another shot in WvW tonight and did much better. Id been tweeking the build, armor, weapons, trinket etc and it seems to have paid off.
Of course it could also be that my team was having a good night but I feel better nontheless.
