I find that the most effective spvp builds require utility for damage. In fact it seems that the most effective spells seem to be in this order

1. Condition(Most damage)
2. Minion Mancer
I have experimented and found that condition and minons often lead to comments about necromancers being overpowered and my team winning during times where minions worked.

3. Wells
Wells put me on-par with other profession burst builds but I felt like I was using utility with high cooldowns for damage and they use weapons with low cooldowns for damage.

4. Spectral
5. Signet(one of the least damage)
Spectral and signet offered fun gimmicks but did not win the fight.

Granted, stat choices are limited and there may be better options of more gear was available but at the current moment I feel like there is too much reliance on losing utility slots for damage instead of… utility.

I’d put wells on top of MM, but that’s just my opinion.

Wells are the top dps. I mix wells and conditions for max dps. Oh and any idiot that cant keep enemies in a well should not be playing a necro.

agreed. conditions (mainly bleed) when stacked takes ~30s to fully run through an opponent. if you’re not downing them within that period of time, you need to figure out your build issues.

Wells (nearly instant cast) can be put on top of each other and usually give you 5s until WoS/WoC drops a total of 5-6k damage if you keep them in your well. add that with Dagger Auto attack over 5s, you’re getting another 4k damage.

for a guardian, that’s a whole HP bar in 5 seconds. why complaining?

the need to send multiple skills into 30+ cooldown to down a single enemy, perhaps?

The above three comments are off topic. Ignore them please.

Well some of that comes from our more ‘pure utility’ utilities not being good by comparison to say other classes or our own damage utility choices. But a lot of our decent offensive utilities are either practically always up (minions) have a low effective cooldown (wells) or a cooldown that flat out matches some long weapon 5 abilities (conditions – see blood is power/ epidemic for example).

We can do alright in terms of damage with no utilities, if you consider a necro as a ‘tanky’ caster (as opposed to a dps one).

That’s all just my opinion of course, I see the frustration, but when you can be somewhat hard to kill and also do fair aoe damage somethings gotta give, in this case its choices.
