Well, here’s to another month of anticipation waiting for those “significant ranger improvements” we were promised oh so many months ago..

He never said ‘significant improvements’. He said ‘significant changes’.

Pet’s abilities no longer being reset upon swapping it is one of the first changes.

Prepare for many more like it.

There are some bugs being fixed and quality of life improvements coming in the next patch, as well as some other significant ranger improvements. I would Literally tell you but I think it would be considered a bit of a spoiler so you will have to be patient.

How much hp does entangle have? I think I’d still rather use take root over entangle. 3 second invulnerability and 4 seed turrets are too good to pass up. 3 seconds where your pet is still attacking your target and your active conditions are still eating away at them.

I have actually been stomped while in a take root so I wouldn’t rely on the “invulnerable” perk too much. The other major problem with entangle is that it stops working if they leave the vines which means if they can teleport or get hit with knock-backs/pulls they are freed from the effect entirely.

It’s pretty good in pve assuming CC isn’t being thrown around but it’s not worth passing RaO over in pvp even with this fix.

That is true, but it is debatable on whether to use it or not. Many people including me do and I find it invaluable to my build. I don’t expect it to last the full 20 seconds, but honestly even getting 5 is more than enough for me. Especially with a party.

What came out of the patch he was talking about? Arrow speed, running speed, and pet pathing? For me, those were definitely quality of life improvements.

EDIT:The pet one and running speed being significant.

Take root works pretty much everytime from me. The conditions you have still tick away so using the condition removal signet before hand followed by the 6 second invulnerability signet is a good idea.

so sayeth the great innuendo

I might of had conditions on me. All I remember was activating it because I had a warrior and thief on me with only a few thousand life left and I was stomped while the effect was still on me and died proper the second the vines went away which was about a second later.

Connection error(s) detected. Retrying…

The arrow speed one helped Longbow a lot when it happened, to. It made it semi-usable.

That’s great. I don’t like Longbow much so I only said that because I don’t use it enough to know a big difference.

Have they even acknowledged this is an issue yet? Seems downright negligent to the ranger profession as a whole. Our pets(stated by them) are supposed to do a portion of our damage yet we don’t even have agony resistance for them.

They changed corrupted short bow’s skin……now it looks like an icy wood stick:/

Ahah i posted a bug report about this. Let me know about that…i think the shortbow looked exactly like the corrupted longbow didn’t it? Now is it smaller and shorter like it is supposed to be? I can’t believe they fixed this.

They just removed most of the ice design from it ,between the 2 glowing edge….its like empty.
Edit: Actually Corrupted Greatbow has still the same skin and its bigger than corrupted short bow…..but they didnt only reduce the size….they made it kinda empty…….:(

Ranger rocks for PVP/WvW, it is bad at dungeons…

Our main roll in dungeons is ranged single-target and AoE DPS. If you take a ranger into a dungeon that cannot do this, or don’t understand this roll, then you are a liability to the rest of the group.

In dungeons, I run a 30/30/10/0/0 ranger with full zerker weapons, for survival I use p/t/v armour with full set of Runes of Melandru and mix of Knight and Valkyrie accessories. I use master maintenance oil and eat condition damage reduction food.

This is a pretty balanced ranger with +50% crit chance. I constantly swap between longbow/shortbow to keep up a steady stream of ranged damage while staying alive. I use 2 devourers, swapping between each when health gets too low.

Btw, I ran Arah story with a group of 3 rangers, 1 thief, and 1 engineer. It was one of the best dungeon runs and groups I have ever been in.

So no, rangers are not ‘bad’ in dungeons, however, there are many bad players using rangers in dungeons ..

Someone go ahead and check out if there are any undocumented fixes please?

From what I’ve seen on the forums they nerfed our pet F2 cooldown so that when you use F2, swap pets, swap back to first pet, the F2 cooldown is not reset. So if it’s a long CD like Wolf’s howl, you gotta wait full duration.

You can argue about which way is technically right, but regardless, this change is a huge stealth nerf to the profession.

While this is a small step in the right direction, this is an extremely small step.

With as much fine tuning as all the classes, with rangers and engies seemingly in the worst boat, the devs need to bring back on a few more class designers to help rework and fix the majority of the bugs. There is a huge laundry list of things that need to get done, and at their teams current rate, it might be a year before we see any good, quality changes.

A year? A little birdie told me that some things in the original Guild Wars which require fixing are yet to be fixed, and that game is seven years old.

No. Hope is for the foolish and the meak.

High hopes are so October 2012, before the Short Bow “fix.”

In this day an age, a Guild Wars 2 Ranger is at best optimistically skeptical and at worst completely in denial.

Here’s to holding out for optimistic skepticism in the February patch!
