Why you all think, that there are no spot for ranger in raids instead of DruidHealer?
Do you even know what DPS can output sinister ranger???
After pet Buff these will be much more than 20k dps in raid.
Do you know why Sinister ranger was not the part of Meta?
Because all encounters last for 12-30sec, and sinister Ranger start shine only after 10-14sec of battle. And last part, why sinister Ranger not the art of meta, because Sinister gear scale really bad with IcoBow and after iceBow was nerfed, SinisterRanger can become part of New Meta in HoT.

Sinister ranger is good if your target doesn’t move (Bonfire + Fire Trap). But you can now use shortbow efficiently and put down spirits (frost and sun) for more damages. And your pet won’t die as well.
Also Druid traitline could replace the BM one, Ancient Seed is a nice addition to condi. We’ll have to wait for what we’ll get at release and do some maths (since pet doesn’t take damages in raid, BM might might still be the best option).

I hope they’ll introduce more stat combos. I’d really like some Prec/Condi/H.Power.

Druid traits no where close with Pet DPS output. Old pets under full buff can output 6-7.8k dps.

ShortBow are wort choice for DPS no matter what build you make.
And most interesting – Sinister ranger not suffer from dodgeRolls. for power builds if you use dodgeRolls, you can lose up to 40% of your max dps. For sinister druid it’;s about 5% only.

I liked the over all feel of the Druid, I felt the staff damage was on the weak side. The heals were great for groups but I felt the self heals were on the low side. If we’re going to specialized in heals then our regen and self heals should be pretty amazing if our damage is going to remain low.

I do like the class tho

I’m just a tad bit worried about Druid not bringing enough to the table outside of heals. While the heals are strong, boons are equally important and Druid will have to compete with the benefits brought by other classes in the same slot, such as Revenant boonsharing, Guadian heavy support, Elementalist’s easy access to water attunement alongside fire attunement, and Necromancer/Reaper’s newfound versatility. This is one of the big reason’s I wish Ranger also gave out more beneficial boons with their Glyphs.

Most definitely in the current content, the lack of party support might hinder Druid from ever being used outside the very niche game mode of Raids, unless groups find a way to bring a different class that maintains the support the group needs without the sacrifices the Druid has to make to reach the same level.

I’m optimistic, but I’m also deathly scared that Rangers and Druids will just fall back into the last spot when it comes to providing for their team.

Druids actually have extremely good control between Ancient Seeds(?) and their dazes (especially when traited). Hopefully they don’t get nerfed because control and heals is what Druids are best at.

Some damage on staff and CA form would be nice as most everyone else has said and not being able to move in CA 5 makes you so incredibly vulnerable to everything. I also noticed that sometimes when I’d switch into CA from I’d immediately the sent out of it and lose all my energy. Don’t know if it was from someone CCing me in PvP just as I was switching into it, but it really messed me up whenever it happened. I do actually like the current animation for the staff as well, it looks pretty cool in my opinion.

Played primarily druid during the BWE and had a lot of fun with it, although I can see where others are coming from in regards to certain aspects, such as the lack of any reliable damage.

One thought I just had that I haven’t seen thrown around before is… what if they added damage to the staff and/or avatar skills, but the strength scaled off of your healing power rather than the standard power statistic? This would make Cleric’s armor and the like more valuable for the Druid, and is a nice mix-up when it comes to gearing, I think.

I apologize if this has been suggested before. I don’t post here often and don’t really know how to do any searching.

This seems like a good idea to me and was curious myself why none of the base Druid traits included at least a healing power to damage modifier or something more exciting along those lines.

Celestial Avatar

The core problem of the form is; all Celestial Avatar skills, all glyphs and half of our traits are designed to be situational, requiring us to jump in-and-out from the Celestial Avatar form, reacting to what is thrown at us/our allies in order to play the specialization. We are currently unable to do so in most situations.

Change it so we do not lose all Astral Force when we exit the form, add a 10 sec cooldown to entering the form, but keep the mechanic that we need full Astral Force to use it. (Somewhat similar to the way Necro’s Deathshroud work)

This will make the Druid way more fluid, it will change trait choice into being a matter of preference instead of a matter of strength, while stopping players from abusing traits by jumping in-and-out of the form too often.

Adding a half sec cooldown to jumping out of Celestial Avatar form to counter an accidental double-tap would be a nice QOL change as well.

Avatar Skills

Cosmic Ray and Seed of Life (skill #1 and #2) do not feel smooth to use, the #2 skill especially (too long delay, and restricts your movement, especially deadly in pvp/wvw).

Merge the two skills, place them in the skill slot for the #2 skill, use the animation and healing of the #1 skill, the radius and condition-cleanse of the #2 skill, then give it a suitable cooldown. This will make the skill way more fluent, swap the healing focus to the #3 and #4 skills (as spamming the #1 skill currently does not feel nor look good in any way, lame would also be a good word).
A lot of people have been asking for more damage and/or a new auto-attack in Celestial Avatar form, this would be an elegant solution to opening a skill-slot for it.

Natural Convergence (skill #5) leaves the Druid way too exposed

Change it so we can move at <20% movement-speed while channeling this skill. This allows us to (slowly) re-position ourselves in a fight, not taking full damage from Wells and such. This also removes the annoying case where we accidentally move after starting the channel, nullifying the effects of the skill.

Staff

The auto attack and Astral Wisp’s (skill #2) healing and power scalings are a bit too weak.

Ancestral Grace (skill #3) plays full animation even after reaching its destination.

Vine Surge (skill #4) root is a bit too short unless it hits twice, cast time needs to be reduced to 1/4 sec if the cleanse part is gonna be useful, especially when cleansing for allies.

Sublime Conversion (skill #5) skill might have a bit too long cooldown (or I under-appreciate such skills).

Traits

Will be perfect is issues above are fixed!

Glyphs

Glyph of Rejuvenation looks alright.

Utilities’ and elite’ cast times would be better off at 1/4 sec (especially when in Celestial Avatar form) given how low the cooldowns are.

Glyph of Alignment is a bit under performing in regular form. 3 sec of cripple and weakness is a bit too weak.

Glyph of Equality is looking good.

Glyph of the Tides is also fine.

Glyph of Empowerment should be instant cast.

Glyph of Unity’s tether breaks too easily.

Pets

Smokescale’s Shadow Assault needs its damage tuned down.

Bristleback’s Spike Barrage (pet controlled) and Sharpened Spines (player controlled) should swap places. The Spike Barrage is the stronger, more interactive and most fun-to-use of the skills. The spikes should also behave like projectiles (instead of following terrain), and the projectiles should be projectile finishers with x% chance to proc.

The Wyvern’s (non player-controlled) skills needs some attention, they are barely able to hit pve mobs, let alone other players.

Fire Wyvern. The active ability should absolutely be a ground-targeted ability, easy way to make the pet more reliable. The fire should also spread way faster, and it should start firing in less than the current 2 sec time-frame.

Electric Wyvern. The lightning-field (currently 3 sec) feels a bit too short, 4 or 5 sec may be a better duration.

Tiger. Should be available underwater. (It’s kind of a Red Moa v2)

The pets far exceeded my expectations, well done!

I played druid with sinister gear and had actually kind of fun, but i have to agree that some components of the new druid staff should be improved.
First the staff:
The AA is fine, heal is good dmg ok
The second attack could use an aoe field, make it combo light for some condi cleansing
The rhird is a really good skill but the animation channel has some bugs.
The forth skill is good, dmg is sweet but the immobilize would be awesome if it was a root with some bleeds (this change could be included to the grandmaster ancient seeds if to strong baseline)
Second the glyphs:
alignment: put bleed dmg on it and increase the radius to 360
Equality: stun is good but the stun break is not usable if you are in normal form, reverse it or include the stun break in the astral form and change the second effect of equality + improve dmg
Tides: pull in normal form, push in astral would be bether for combat, increase range and dmg (or tweak it with vuln)
Empowerment: its ok but some boons would be nice to, might, fury or quickness for allies and in astral some protection and regen
Elite: is fine but improve animation of the theathering and increase radius.
Astral form:
AA need some kind of dmg
Second is good but the seed looks like an alien (later on this )
3. This skill is good stun and works well with ancient seeds
4. The water field time is to short and the animation is to spacey
5. Seema alittle out if place, give it a root with plants with a little bigger range that weakens and bleeds

ANIMATION: i am.a person who loves animations, and the astral form animations are really ugly, make them more greenish, more plant and druid like.
Like the ones of the staff.

The animations for staff are getting looked at.

Please, don’t change them on male charr! I love male charr druid staff animations and how they differ from the other caster staff postures. A charr druid holds the staff and uses it in a way I would prefer was extended to the other caster classes! This is one of the biggest things I like about it and it would be a shame if it got changed just because people say the human animations look weird…

Overall, the specialization was fun to play. However, the staff “1” skill felt incredibly unsatisfying to use. A combination of the animation, stance, and noise it makes when the skill is used made it feel incredibly weak and unsatisfying. Perhaps just changing the stance (and having the beam emit from the hand, like the necro staff animations? iron man anyone?), and altering the sound a bit. The beam itself is.. alright.. wish it had a little more punch to it though. Again, it was incredibly fun to use but that one skill could feel a whole lot better. Thematically, the animations for staff seem a bit all over the place.

Alright, I’m not sure if Irenio is even going to read this, but I figured I’ll add my 2 cents.

The Ideas given in this post are all just me thinking out loud, and should just give an Idea on the direction I would like the druid to be going in.

Overall

I’ve Played Druid pretty much exclusively over the weekend. And in the end, I really enjoyed it. The traits felt like they were for the most part pretty synergetic with each other and the staff was an interesting weapon to get used to. The pets offered an very nice change, though maybe a bit out of balance with each other even. I did not use much of the glyphs, since they felt very low impact.

One thing I noticed from the beginning was the low groupfight impact outside of healing. (to anyone playing lol, it felt like playing Soraka back from season 1). I would really like it if this “healing support” would have a little more control to change the flow of a fight.

In light of this, I would really like some way to increase the versratility of this specialisation, maybe with skills that are unblockable or offer different depending on the situation (I’ll offer some examples in a second).

I would personally LOVE a way for the traitline to be given a way to generate might for itself, or a for allies too.

Please Irenio don’t just add linearity, add some complexity to the class!

The Traits

I felt the traits were pretty well balanced around. The minors were really nice, though maybe a little focused on the support aspect of the spec. I see and like the way, similar to the reaper, the traits in one line all deal with a different aspect of the spec. The topline is all about the avatar form, entering, exiting and being in it. Personally I would love if Druidic Clarity was turned into a stunbreak or gave stability to allies for a little more teamfight impact. Though I understand that may be a bit too strong. Maybe add some might generation to Natural stride everytime you cleanse one of the movement impending conditions? (that would increase the impact of vine surge aswell).

Casting seed of life when you use a glyph as a way of condition cleansing, I like that Idea, but the time from cast till cleanse was a bit long to be able to deal with conditions actively.

The Staff

Loving the autoattack mechanic, really nice in my opinion.

Astral Wisp was also good, it damages everything it passes through until it latches to the target you sent it to. I feel like this is a skill where you could really up the skill ceiling of the class and offer some more versatility. I like the idea that when the wisp expands, it explodes with an effect (doesn’t need to be just damage, could be heal allies or cleanse conditions or even slow enemies etc) but you could also activate the skill again to explode the wisp early, granting a different explosion effect. This would be a skill where unblockable would make sense as a mechanic (on the explosion not the attaching)

I also kind of missed a pet interaction mechanic on the staff skills, maybe teleport your pet to you when you finish casting ancestral grace? or reset the pet f2 when vine surge touches on your pet)

Last but not least, ancestral grace could use with an overhaul to be a bit more fluent if you use it in close proximity.

Utilities

The utilities I played around with the least, they felt very low impact and had too small a radius, especially because staff promotes ranged combat. I was also missing a stunbreak out of astral form. More I cannot say, I did not play with them enough.

Astral Form

As many have said, the autoattack is pretty difficult to use (outside of casting it on your opponent to scare the crap out of em) with the other 4 skills having a much bigger impact.

Seed of life is difficult to use against conditions, it could use a blast finisher too if I’m to ask ^^

The other 3 skills are very well balanced in my opinion.

Welp thats about it I guess.

tl;dr Increase teamfight impact with some more pbaoe, please don’t just add linear effects though. I want some complexity!

Other healing specs should be as effective as druid, or at least come close to it. Atm having 1 druid and 9 dps is the best way to close the first raid encounter. Any different healer would simply require using 2 of them, since they have nowhere the healing druid has.

Ald please don’t give me the “druid is just burst, you need celestial avatar”, since it takes 2 seconds flat to fully load it with staff #1 and #2.

I played Druid most of the weekend, and I really enjoyed it.

Summary: range on several things should be increased since staff is a long range weapon. Fix targetting on fire wyvern.

Details:

I liked the way staff 1 healed allies it passed through; that added an interesting challenge around positioning.

Staff 2 seemed slow, but I liked the synergy with pets and allies

Staff 3 could use a little shorter cool down and/or longer range.

Staff 4 seemed good. Longer range is always nice, but I don’t feel it’s essential. I would like the direction arrow to be more visible as it sometimes was hard to see, and making sure of that sometimes meant by the time I cast it it wasn’t in the right spot anymore anyway. :P

Staff 5 was really fun, especially since it highlighted the new ai on enemies—had to really think of the best place to put it since they’d move around.

I agree with the about comment that the functions of glyph of tides should be flipped between druid and CA; if you could pull enemies in while in the form that can use glyph of unity for tethering to enemies, that seems like better synergy.

Glyph of unity was great, but I think cast range should be a bit longer, and tether not break quite so easily.

Pets. I love the new pets! Ground targetting for fire wyvern would be much better. Or at least centered on what you have targeted. Sometimes it seemed random. :P

PLZZ! make skill 1 possible to hit targeted friendly target also!
It will really help in different game types.

In WvW you can always target your commander and see where he’s moving and in additional support him.

In raids You can Select friend with LowHP and Animation from Skill1 will show you where you have to unload all your healing skills to save him. it will add interesting mechanics.

Hi Irenio,

I’m loving druid. I played it for around 5 hours in raids and we got the boss past its final phase a couple times before being kicked when the beta ended. I loved nailing down the rotations for healing and the supplemental longbow damage with quickdraw making rapid fire strong dps – every bit helps in the vale guardian fight.

Here was my major issue with the fight as a druid:

The increase in healing power scaling and decrease in base healing is a great decision that will force people out of berserker druid. However, there are no useful ascended stat distributions to support this change (specifically for the vale guardian fight). I ran zealots armor and staff with a mix of berserker and clerics trinkets to attain ~800 healing power. The problem is that clerics adds toughness – the only aggro mechanic for the Vale Guardian. Running clerics forces my tank to run more toughness than needed just to keep aggro, hurting the min-max nature of raids.

suggestion: consider adding some zealots trinkets to the game, or perhaps a stat set with healing power and ferocity. At the least, add more magi’s trinkets than just the two accessories (attained from an honestly quite annoying source).

(also – tangent – are there any plans to bring some support specs of other classes onto the same level as druid?)

Thanks again for creating an elite spec I am excited to play after my two main classes’ specs felt lackluster.

It’s cool to have a bow and pet for aesthetic reasons, but everything Revenant seems to be far superior from what I’m reading. Along with the option to be a better sustained healer, Revenant also other goodies to support their team. I get the feeling that Revanant will completely outshine Ranger in every aspect and game mode.

The more I read about Revenant, the less excited I am about Ranger and Druid.

Of course Revenant will be a better sustained healer. Druid isn’t a sustained healing spec. It’s burst.

Just saying that the complete package seems far superior from what I read. Sure, burst healing my be better, but what else does Ranger have to offer to be competitive? Doesn’t seem like much else besides the pretty flower and rainbow unicorn arrows on the screen and a couple neat pets… Idk, hope I’m wrong.

Agree. But I also feel like I wish we had more commands for it at least. If it can’t be mobile, at least a relocation of some kind with aoe placement. But even if they don’t change it at least staff 1 keeps them alive with little effort.

Honestly, this isn’t a bad time to talk about Druid’s synergy with spirits, Ranger’s other main support. Druid should synergize well with spirits and our boon support line, Nature Magic—after all, Druid is, at heart, a support specialization. Unfortunately, I can’t see anyone running Druid with spirits on higher-difficulty content (i.e. raids) because of the inherent problems of spirits (immobile, squishy, RNG-based buffs, limited range on the elite spirit). Now that we have wisps as part of Druid canon, I would like to see the idea extended to base Ranger with spirits. This helps bring Druid and Ranger a bit closer together conceptually, and will help give spirit skills a role with supportive Druids in difficult content. I would love to see what ideas Irenio has for base Ranger, because changes to base Ranger ultimately affect Druid’s optimization for content.

And actually, the first group to beat the raid boss had a druid running two spirits, frost and protect. I tried it and it’s very good, but this is of course only the first wing of the first raid we’re talking about.

I don’t know if this has been mentioned since there’s a lot of pages to go through but I really like that there is no Global Cooldown to go into celestial form however when playing MMO’s most people spam the button until the skill goes off and since there is no GCD on going into and OUT of celestial I wasted it so many times so I would love if you kept the Non GCD to go into celestial but I wouldn’t be able to cancel out of it instantly, so adding a 0.5 or 1.0 sec gcd on the specific spell so it won’t get wasted when pressing the button more than once.

To be honest, I tried to use spirits as a healing Druid and I found 2 main issues

  • Since AoEs have 3~5 target limit I ended sometimes healing my spirits instead of players
  • In places where Druids may have a spot (Raid, WvW and PvP) the combats are very mobile and AoE heavy so spirits doesn’t help/last at all and while they are in CD we don’t have much to provide to the party since we wasted utility slots with them.

Since spirits are a ranger skill, I’m sure it won’t be changed or even looked for a while, so I won’t even waste time making suggestions for it.

I saw this on the raids, and I got really excited! I, too, used spirits during my raid attempts. But unfortunately I think the spirits were only viable because of a bug (or bugs) in the raid—namely that pets and summons were counting as players for stacking on the lightning orbs, and that summons/pets did not take a good chunk of the damage present in the raid. I’m not sure if the latter is a bug, but if it is, spirits are going to die too quickly to be of much use once it is fixed.

During the ranger CDI as many suggested and I supported the idea of changing the spirits into orbs (like the current wisp is) and follow the ranger by default, my idea is the same but make the spirit take the same damage as the ranger, that way it rewards good play and positioning, since if you dodge you save all your spirits, if you get hit all of them will, also the spirits taking damage system is maintained, the AoE effect is also the same, only changes the position and how it moves.

But since it was ignored for almost 2 years, and even worse, instead of making the mobility better they made it stationary no matter or what, so … I’m just wasting time writing this.

Because they said that charging Celestial avatar takes a lot. It takes 2 flat seconds in a group. So atm Druid is sustained burst.

Atm Revenant IS NOT a better sustained healer. Can average 600k total healing in a pvp match, while Druid is above 900k. So it’s better at average/sustained heal and also burst.

And can heal blindfolded. Ground targeted spam on group. Ventari is far harder to use.

Oh, and just to be clear, Druid was in every single group that beat the first raid boss.
That’s a fact.
It was the only healer of choice. No other healer could have done the same. If Druid is nerfed then we are screwed. So please just buff other healers and put a cd on Cele Avatar, so the class is not just immune to condi (lol) and it may really be “burst” and not “sustained burst”.
