I’ma go on record as saying SotF never becomes PvP meta without further buffs. It’s in too weird of a line.
Ranger needs to evolve. All of you are stuck 6 deep into WS for EB? Random 10 seconds condi clear > On the go 2 condi clear. Outdated.
It’s too limiting to utility choice is the issue, and most teams push for people to take as much team support as they can instead of building selfish. EB is useful in the sense that it doesn’t lock up your utility choices.
However, SotF could have been run in a hybrid spirits build during the tournament, and particularly with this tournament, Car Crash was the most condi-heavy team (in the semis that I can recall at this time), and TCG didn’t even have a condi-user on their team I don’t believe.
I don’t even think it should be a debate on whether or not to go SotF or EB. In this particular tournament, it should be a question of whether or not Healing Spring and SoR would have been more than enough condi removal, which against certain team comps, it absolutely would have been.
But I guess that’s why TCG won, with no ranger, and as far as builds go, a less than standard array of selections and a complete lack of condi-spam classes. Because why out-meta the meta when you can just counter it?

Well lets see how our Asian gamers play. Old meta or new meta. Someone needs to set up the standards

The interesting thing is, and I brought this up more relevantly in a WvW thread, the meta in competitive play is whatever the kitten people are running. If WvW zergs weren’t hammer trains, let picture they were 20 grenade spammers or whatever you feel like.
If 4 million chinese gamers decide the PvP meta is warrior axe spike, that is the build you have to build against when you PUG.
Numbers over everything.
Numbers over everything.
I don’t even mean it like, to argue with you lol. I’m just saying that they could build wars better based on who they’re up against. No point in building cleanse heavy against a team with no condi investment haha.

oh no that was a response to fluffy. LOL. numbers = asian migration. hope i dont get banned
I spent a few days running 10-0-30-30-0:
shortbow (earth/agony) with krait runes and rabid amulet.
Sharpening stone/LR/sun spirit
I’ve found it to pump out brutal condi dmg as a ledge kind of role in teamfights. Less dps than power but far more sustain. It is pretty meh 1v1 but great teamfights.
For homepoint I’m loving the chill build with sun/stone/sor and s/d a/t.
Another question:
Why is everyone running dual dagger offhands? What advantage is that providing over torch?
Let’s see what the NA teams bring to the fight this weekend, how about that haha. Not trying to make some big debate of EU vs NA out of it, I just mean that NA will have had more time to play around with new build options and will have been able to watch the EU ToL to add to their game knowledge and build knowledge going in to this weekends tourny.
So hopefully, we’ll see some interesting ranger play this weekend.

You seem to be implying that the NA teams will change anything…. The NA meta evolves quite a bit slower than the EU meta, so i’m not expecting any change, if it were the other way around, MAYBE.
But we’ll see, I hope to god i’m wrong and the NA teams will actually adapt and use some of the new builds that became available due to the traits instead of sticking with the same old kitten.

Well there are enough teams participating that even if overall most of the builds and team comps are the same (I guarantee somebody is going to try to run the exact same team comp TCG won with) by the time the semis come around, I’d expect to see at least a few teams in the lower brackets whose builds indicate that they aren’t Euro-lemmings.

Is it bad that i’m secretly hoping a team of unsung PvP pros are going to swoop in with a meta crushing build and just cause an uproar by taking the tourney?

+1. Very outdated.

Durz are you talking about an all Ranger: 1 spotter PA at the back end, with 1 condi bunker, 1 trapper hybrid beastmaster, 1 NM survival of the fittest beastmaster, and a spirit ranger beastmaster with 5 river drakes and 5 wolves or 5 krytan hounds and 5 wolves

Scratch the spirit master and go for support ranger (still has some spirits) and that team would be glorious lol.
I’m pretty sure there would be mass elitist suicides if such a team won the tourney lol
