Its a bug fix. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t intended to work with a dead pet, just like Signet of Renewal. What I’m curious about is what the amazing change coming to ranger is watching the livestream. My bet is on splitblade getting an 8% damage increase

We want signets to be fun and enjoyable that allow for strategic gameplay. But not you Rangers, we don’t want you to ever use your signets without a 30 pt trait! Enjoy.

Hey guys, we’ve found the problem with the 1h sword and we’re coming up with ideas to fix it (hey look, now it’s broken!) but guess what. Instead of removing the leap until we’ve found a solution, we’re going to leave you with a off-putting weapon that scares the noobs into using bearbow. Enjoy!

To be honest, this isn’t a major hit if you run with an at least semi-tanky pet (Ie. Drake) and have a decent buff pool with 15 points in nature magic to help share regeneration and such with your pet.

Still it is a little disappointing that this was considered a noteworthy mention in the live stream yet no encouragement was offered for builds that continue to be held back by the pet. Even though good buffs were promised to be revealed at a later date, I fear that as time passes we will continue to see pet design that holds back the ranger class yet no offering of any ability to play petless. The pet will be further and further alienated as just additional clutter on top of a slightly less damaging character that offers no real function of synergy or theme as a class mechanic. A year later melee pets still have no method of catching up to a fleeing target, no means of attacking while moving. Ranged pets continue to have only one viable option due to a lack of proper attention to devourers.

And condition bunker and other passive “Stack and kite” easy cheesy condition builds continue to be promoted. People will continue saying the “Ranger is class is good/at a good place” on account of just 1-2 viable builds while everybody playing an active or skillful build relying on power rather than condi continues to suffer. Skilled play should be rewarded, its certainly heavily encouraged. Yet for such players, so many other classes are more attractive.. and at this point, I’m really starting to think about benching my ranger. It will come down to whatever “Positive change” is revealed in the upcoming path, ultimately. But I’m tired of waiting over a year for the areas of the ranger most in need of change to be ignored. They know pet AI and F2 is an issue, yet they will continue to not even offer a decent band aid buff on pets to up their reliability if they stay the current course.

Yea, not sure what they’re thinking on that…Cause I know it works that way in PVE and WvW..

I’m not sure about SPvP though, could work differently.

I’m more interested in the On Swap abilities not now sharing ICD’s

That opens up some more things for Rangers, and the Dual Sigils on Two handers is nice for my Technobabble Build.

Means Shortbow can now have Torment.

We need:
- completely new and functional pet AI (with f2 active response instant) even if you need the system from scratch, it just can’t be ignored.
- pet aoe dmg reduction
- real condition removal on demand and not linked to pets
- utilities and weapon skills with knockdown (maul), blast finisher, gap closers, and blindness.
- a complete rework of longbow, main hand axe, shortbow.
- a buff to number of bleeds of nr.5 dagger.
- a damage buff to nr1. chain and nr.5 greatsword, nr.4 warhorn.
- a buff to damage part of nr.5 axe.
- get rid of opening strike mechanic and give us something meaningful.
- immobilize removal with lightning reflexes.
- equal to other classes power coeficients with our skills.

Ah cool. Good to hear they’re finally going to fix it and allow 2 OnCrit effects with separate activations instead of having both fighting over who gets to proc. Can’t wait to put an extra Air in next to my Fire as well then! :P

Unless you’re filthy rich, I would not be hasty to jump the gun on trying double crit sigils.

Anet has confirmed they want to remove bloodlust stacking when you unequip weapons, which means if you want to stack pow/preci/condi, you’ll eventually be forced to use one of those sigils on your weapon.

Dollars to donuts this double sigil fix is the first step of that master plan.

This is why we can’t have nice things…

I got that. What Aridia said is if you unequip your weapon which lets you stack corruption/bloodlust, you lose the stacks.

Im not 100% certain but I don’t think that was mentioned in the livestream. Maybe he is referencing another video, blog or forum post.

Anyway they are still working on it all, obviously and stated a couple of times that things are changing back and forth a lot with the number crunching etc. That’s why the information is scarce or being held back.

I’ve been using 2 stacking weapons to get my stacks in WvW then swapping out to my normal weapons for a long time. Saves time with only killing 13 mobs or guards.

I think your over reacting slightly, everything that was mentioned in the livestream to be changing for ranger is a bug fix, pure and simple. From the 480hp tick on the spirit to the apparent dead pet condi clear…none of it was working as intended.

i am really sorry for all wvw ranger who use EB. pets get killed fast in zerg fights and with no condition remove life gets harder. then anet should not wonder when more and more play bear.

nevertheless i have the feeling that ranger will be becoming strong after patch.

Air sucks. You’re better of with any of Force+Night, Force+Accuracy, Force+Fire and similar with Night.

For the last time, Empathetic Bond isn’t getting nerfed, If it actually worked the way it was described it would be a bug fix, However EB currently does exactly what they’re fixing, As in, if your pet dies, You don’t have any condition removal.

You’re not getting nerfed, That’s how it works already, Its always worked that way.

Alot of theives seemed displeased with the pistolwhip changes. I personally see it as a buff in PvP but in PvE it’s just another button press when clearing through trash…which the s/p excels at.

Anyway, i think it’s a change for the better as now the root split up and each attack is shorter. The fact that you can now stun one target and pistol whip another is a bonus imo.

I don’t even get why people are upset with the pistol whip change , it’s a total buff in PvP, you can stun a rezzer and then tele to someone, which immobs them and go berserk on them and then teleport back to go back on the rezzer… Just so many possibilities now that it’s split.

Pistol whip didn’t need a buff, it does stupid damage as is and thieves can apparently take utilities to keep you immobilized till dead (happened to me a couple times).

I actually played s/p in wvw for a couple hours, and I certainly don’t see it doing stupid damage. And I wasn’t running a bunker build either.

Ive had non bunker toons killed by 1 whip and a few auto attacks. Ive also spectated a few sword/pistol thieves, the damage can be very strong even if only part of the whip hits.

When exactly did empathetic bond start doing that? Not to sound tin hat, but it seems to me that this has to be a recent bug that might be isolated to the sPvP side of things. I have a feeling the spirit of nature ‘bug’ is probably of a similar nature.

Also what is with this skritty focus on harming the pet as about half Ranger’s condition removal?

Pets have been hidden due to rising Player complaints.

The Spirit is bugged in all aspects of the game actually, it just heals for WAY too much health (I use it regularly and I think it’s ridiculous I’m surprised it’s been like this for so long). As for EB, I tested it in sPvP AND PvE AND WvW after they talked about it and it sure as hell doesn’t work like they think it does… Once your pet is dead your condi removal is gone.

And I think all of our condi removal minus healing spring kills our pet… There’s a reason I don’t use any of them, and it’s generally because I have 20 or more in BM

Yep… pretty sure its never worked for me while pet is dead…. at least I always swap out pets when I notice i have condis loaded up and pet is at zero.

I’ve previously decided on carrying only high vitality pets (3000+). They have to absorb a lot of abuse. Be proud of your bear!!

HINT: if you use Masters Bond + Companions Might (or just companions might with a high crit build) your bear will regularly hit for near 2k damage, have full Masters Bond and Stability training and that kittening bear is gonna be able to face tank most 1 hit kills as well and keep mauling things for 2.5k damage autos and ~4k damage Bites.

Granted if you put a cat in the same scenario you’ll be getting warrior 100B numbers popping up, but cats kittening implode when a stiff breeze flys through the battlefield , bears just man up, ignore the damage, and keep swinging.

I use Signet of Renewel when I have to, but I have the pet switch button ready, so the second the pet grabs the conditions I swap them out so it won’t die due to them. It’s a shame you have to do that to bypass the effect. <_<

Ive had non bunker toons killed by 1 whip and a few auto attacks. Ive also spectated a few sword/pistol thieves, the damage can be very strong even if only part of the whip hits.

I have hit 12k rapid fire on nonbunker characters. Does that make rapid fire deal stupid damage?

Rangers are weak in condition removal, LoL.

BTW, when can I have a REAL Ranger with no Pets?
