It’s a zerg weapon at best and has no place in a 1on1 situation at all. This is also why rangers are mad that shortbow range got nerfed simply to make longbow more appealing. They basically nerfed a good 1on1 weapon’s range to make a zerg weapon more appealing.

As you said, shortbow is intended as a 1v1 weapon.
In fact, it’s a 1v1/kiting weapon, the skills are clearly set up for mid range skirmishing(circling behind the opponent at max range? lol) and it’s got a clearly evasive mindset to it.
It didn’t need that 1200 range to do what it was intended for, so it got used as some sort of all-purpose weaponry and that got fixed. Move on.

One thing i don’t understand and something that makes no sense whatsoever is how the hell a Bear deals low damage? A BEAR!!!! but a ******* pigeon cough owl deals a lot of damage, lol anet. Personally i ignore Bears everywhere. in pve i run double spider (at range they die less at least) for immobilize and aoe poison, for pvp anything but a Bear.

Bears are big, fuzzy, and can bite your head off. That’s three good reasons to have one as a pet.

I don’t care that their stats don’t reflect it. I mean, they’re friggin’ bears! Just think for a minute, you’re walking back home in an empty street. All of a sudden, some dude decides to jump out of an alley and mug you. What would you rather have at your side?
- a stupid flamingo?
- mama’s dog that you were taking out for his wee wee?
- a FRIGGING BEAR!

Pop signet of the wild, and there you go: proper-sized bear mauling the face of whoever stole his pot of honey. Or yours.

Plus, because of the ‘attitude’, the bear is epic. meta-wise. It’s the ranger x1000. Playing a ranger, you’re already a noob magnet, as every idiot and his dog will become blind to anything else after seeing you, going for the ‘easy kill’. As a ranger with a bear, you’re just entering another dimension of underestimation. Every. Single. Idiot. will come running all the way for you. They will even tell their friends. It’s so easy i feel like i’m haxing.

When i was young, my foes deleted their characters for having been pwned by a ranger.

Now, they delete the game and reformat their hard drive, cring all the way because they’ve been pwned by a ranger with a bear.

I use brown bear and quite honestly feel naked without at least packing my longbow along on the fields of WvW. It’s really our only source of consistent large-scale AoE and knockback. Unless I’m in a legit dueling session, in which case I swap to sword/dagger. So everyone can talk all the kitten they want. Chased a cowardly Norn guardian half across our Borderlands map. After he nearly died miserably several times, my health never once dropping below 90%, he hightailed it outta there. A fight HE STARTED while I was happily farming nodes I might add. As I seldom ever attack first.

So by all means, underestimate me… Lmao!

Mods did it, i find it hilarious since the post no longer makes sense to new people.

Since it’s basically about bears here I’ll say it even though I said it before, why on earth don’t bears and pigs have aoe/swipes/cleave on their autoattack? that alone would raise their stock in an instant because I would actually like to use a bear or a boar for estethic reasons but there is just no way I will in their current state when we have drakes.

Bears and Pigs with Cleaves actually wouldn’t be that bad…Though Pigs are useless more cause their F2 ability (which i’ve said before if it worked like thieves would make them one of our best pets)

I may try running a Black Bear today with my Zerg build, though generally i’ve taken to either using Spiders or Wolves

Yeah absolutely, I think this is a totally logical change that should be for all low dps tanky pets we have, it would give all of them a solid use as aoe tanks, another thing would be to make all the traits affect all pets such as bleeds on crits and the like that totally balances itself out a wolf for example will still won’t do as much damage as a cat since he will crit less even with fury but it would shrink the gap between some pets a little to make more of them viable.

I actually like the way the brown bear looks.

I lvled my ranger to 80 using it for most of the pve. It’s pretty much cruise control.

I’m still of the opinion that pets need a rework..I may try and do a post with idea’s on it.

Xsorus, pet’s do need work. The whole class needs work. Please do come up with some ideas. Because the dev’s, I’m sorry to say, are failing us kitten the last patch. The biggest to me is the “shout” build. It’s completely contrived around sPvP. Guard is a stationary utility for sitting on a point. It’s not meant to use on the run. Thus, the shout build was expressly sPvP minded. Which kitten es me off that the dev’s would be so short sighted.

We need pet’s skins/more pet looks. A lot of us play them with vanity in mind. As was mentioned, some of us just love using bears. I love my Snow Owl and Cats. I’m using Spiders with longbow since patch and they give me the willies I’d love to use SotW if they melee’d. It would really be a horror show for the victim to have a huge Jungle Spider leaping at them

For reset tonight, I think I’m going to run my lil Cub (brown bear) again just to see if I can aggro more WvW’ers

Honest question: if you could reskin pets, then how would an enemy know what pets you’re using? Or should an enemy not know a priori what to expect?

Exactly! He should be able to react to the pets action and adapt on the fly, that is action based combat. I’ve been advocating pet skin/functionality decoupling for the longest time now.
